Electric Daisy Carnival

The Electric Daisy Carnival, the dance music festival which drew over 250,000 attendees to its three-day Las Vegas event last year, will hit New York on May 19-20, 2012, at a soon-to-be-announced location....

"I'm really excited to be working with Pacha to bring our touring experience of Electric Daisy Carnival to New York," Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac Events, told Billboard exclusively. "The entire Insomniac staff is looking forward to this upcoming EDC weekend on the East Coast." -[Billboard]
Uh oh. Electric Daisy Carnival is coming to NYC. No word on the lineup yet for NYC, or for their flagship event in Las Vegas on June 8th - 10th, or for the third third festival they're doing this year in Puerto Rico. 2011's events featured appearances from The Crystal Method, Skream, Rusko, Diplo, Skrillex, Bloody Beetroots, MSTRKRFT and many, many others (you get the idea).

As you might know, much like the similarly themed HARD, EDC started in California (in 1997), but moved to Vegas last year. This NYC outing is their first venture to the East Coast.

With the announcement of EDC, NYC suddenly has a growing number festivals on our hands, many of which are electro-heavy, such as the similar Electric Zoo which happens on Randall's Island over Labor Day Weekend (pics from 2011), and the slightly more mixed Governors Ball which is now on Radall's Island too, and which is the same weekend as Orion in Atlantic City. Last summer also introduced Escape 2 NY to the Hamptons (which is planning to return). Hopefully these new fests fare better than 2011 Hamptons non-fest Music To Know.

Check out a video trailer from the Las Vegas show below.

this may be why gov ball went less electronic this year

So Electric Zoo and Electric Daisy both in New York. GAY

Buying stock in Deer Park & Nestle Water Holdings right now.

Also, why promote people on their camera phones in your video. Don't you want to show everyone having a good time?

kids on drugs, uh oh is right. the likely places for this are randall's or randall's, right? though it's probably randall's.

I have no idea how Governor's Ball gets off on charging $160 for two days. Also Passion Pit is now worthy of a headlining spot for the 15,000-capacity Randalls Island? Really guys?

this is apparently going to be at MetLife stadium so i guess it should be EDCNJ

Looks like a load of fun from high ground with piss balloons and a pillow case full of dead D batteries

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2012 4:25 PM

Sounds gay.

@3:55 - Passion Pit sold out Prospect Park (6500 cap) and Colonials Row on Gov Island (7500 cap) in summer of 2010. I'd say that justifies 15K, no?

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2012 5:03 PM

5:03,

Prospect Park is 3000-capacity but I guess I see your point. Still....that math doesn't always work: "If x band brings in 5000 people and Y band brings in 3000, that means 8000 people will come!"

Maybe the real headliner for Saturday at Gov. Ball is Duck Sauce. I guarantee 15,000+ people would pay to hear "Barbara Streisand" 5x in a row.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2012 5:44 PM

^ again with the Dick Sauce!

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2012 5:52 PM

i hope this thing isn't as expensive as the zoo.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2012 5:55 PM

^ I hope people aren't on drugs for this. Get high on JC baby!

BOOTY DEW

The music they chose for that video trailer says it all. Pure cheese fest. If you want a real electronic music festival, head to Detroit in late may, Mutek in Montreal the week after or Sonar in Barcelona in June.

CHROMEO!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 10:11 AM

"Prospect Park is 3000-capacity"

No it isn't.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 11:48 AM

So Electric Zoo and Electric Daisy both in New York. WIN

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:24 PM

5:03, I went to the governor's show for tokyo police club, who I think were dubbed 'special guests' for that show

Governors Ball was a lot better organized than that disaster All Points West. No ovelrapping sets is key and it's cool to go to another side of the park and not hear music you don't care for. Too bad it's at Randals Island theres no shade or the feeling you have escaped the city.

This looks so sick! Can't wait to get my freak on. First heard about it on http://www.FiestaFrog.com/blog/index.php/electric-daisy-carnival-york-city/. Definitely going! See you all there!

edc is 1 hell of a show. just not suitable for that ew new york/nj crowd. LOSS

Posted by haze | March 2, 2012 3:24 PM

Venue: New Giants Stadium
tix on sale already

Posted by ME | March 2, 2012 4:11 PM

There's no way that EDC NY sold out already, they just screwed over their fans by selling tickets to scalpers. Such a great way to treat your fans with respect by screwing them over with tickets at 3x the original price. Thanks EDC!

Hey BV, can you guys look into this BS move by EDC on scalping. They're just straight up lying to fans.

Posted by EDM212 | March 4, 2012 6:35 PM

Na, I got tickets pretty easily for EDC (on the cheaper side too), and a bunch of homies also got. If you were at the computer at 3 to get tix you got tix.

Posted by Stephen Whitfield | March 5, 2012 1:42 AM

why ugh?

Posted by jordon | August 5, 2013 3:56 PM

Seth Troxler in a interview about electric zoo or edc in new york basically said: His entire set he was wondering why he was even there. EDC/EZoo are shit events. If you are into the music it makes a lot more sense to find a warehouse party, seeing something at moma, or at output. These are the worst crowds that you will ever see.
