Kid Koala

Last year, Kid Koala released the graphic novel Space Cadet and an accompanying score. He premiered the piece with a multimedia headphone concert and gallery in Europe and is now debuting it in the US with two NYC shows this April. If you'e wondering what the "headphone concert" will be like, a press release writes...

Space Cadet is a unique immersive headphone concert experience. The audience sits in inflatable "space pods", listening to the show through individual headphone systems as Kid Koala brings the Space Cadet score to life on a piano and several turntables. Part music, part storytelling, Kid Koala invites you into the world of the Space Cadet graphic novel in a show suitable for all ages.
The NYC shows happen on April 3 and 4 at Irondale Center in Fort Greene. Before the show starts, a gallery will be open in the Biosphere with "Space Plant Sculpture installations, an interactive Music Spaceship Console, a Space Cadet Soundtrack Cassette Jukebox, and original etchboards from the Space Cadet book." Tickets for both shows are on sale now.

The flier for the shows, more info and trailer videos for both the headphone concert and the book are below...

Kid Koala - Space Cadet Book Trailer

LIVE SHOW
Space Cadet is a unique immersive headphone concert experience.

GALLERY
Prior to the Space Cadet concert, come explore the Space Cadet Gallery. It's fully equipped with Space Plant Sculpture installations, an interactive Music Spaceship Console, a Space Cadet Soundtrack Cassette Jukebox, and original etchboards from the Space Cadet book. You can even decorate your own Gingerbread Space Cookies. Gallery exhibit will take place in the Biosphere prior to the concert.

BOOK and SOUNDTRACK
Space Cadet is a 132-page graphic novel drawn entirely on etchboards. It is accompanied by a "still picture score" of music composed and recorded by Kid Koala. This charming story of an adventurous space cadet and her guardian robot touches on the relationship between technology and isolation, and celebrates the idea of connectivity through family and the cycles that build generations.

Kid Koala is the BEST. I was an instant fan since seeing him open for Radiohead in 2001. Seen him over 10 times since... dude rocks it every time.

Anyone remember the Flaming Lips headphone tour. Something like Music Against Brain Degradation.

Awesome lineup, but the headphone part was not interesting.
