Metallica will play the Black Album in its entirety on one of the nights "for the first time ever on US soil", and... Ride The Lighting on the other night! The venue is Bader Field (an abandoned airport).

Other bands are:

Arctic Monkeys • Avenged Sevenfold
Modest Mouse • The Gaslight Anthem
Cage The Elephant • Fucked Up • Best Coast
Hot Snakes • Titus Andronicus
Gary Clark Jr. • Lucero • Roky Erickson
The Black Angels • The Sword
A Place to Bury Strangers • Liturgy
+ more TBA
There will be a MET Club Ticket Presale on Feb 8 at 10am with a special MET Club presale price of $125 for two days. Public sale begins Feb 11 at 10am. Early bird tickets will be $150 for two days, or $175 if you wait to buy them.

"More than just music, the festival will also feature a lifestyle element showcasing the band's individual interests - and allowing fans to interact directly with each of the band members. More details soon!"

The festival is in partnership with C3 who also does Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.

In before the usual nonsense but, I gotta say, pretty cool lineup (minus the Avenged Sevenfold part that is).

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:05 PM

if you are going to this because you're excited to hear 'enter sandman' in its proper order, you suck.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:07 PM

2:05, pretentious comment of the year.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:07 PM

Different festival, same bands

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:09 PM

Hmm... I'll only go if Trapt is playing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:09 PM

@2:07 "Enter Sandman" is a song, not an album.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:10 PM

Interesting lineup. I was expecting this to be a dirtbag metalfest, but I'm somewhat intrigued.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:11 PM

You can see Trapt for free at the HOB AC on April 21...

Posted by YeahSayer | February 7, 2012 2:12 PM

Trapt please!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:12 PM

I usually dismiss anything Metallica related, but I must say that I am impressed for the bands that they have chosen to play with them. This seems less about feeding Metallica's gi-nour-mous egos and more about bringing a greater spotlight to some other worthy bands.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:13 PM

This is a beyond shitty line-up. Gary Clark Jr. is the only bright spot (albeit, very surprising), but fuck. This does not bode well.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:13 PM

^^ dirtbag metalfest would be more intriguing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:14 PM

Cool line-up, but it kinda reminds me of them playing Lollapaloza back in the mid-90s. "We're not cool/good anymore, so we'll play a festival with a bunch of hip bands."

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:14 PM

I'm pissed that Bieber isn't part of the lineup. Who fucked that one up?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:15 PM

where is trapt??

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:15 PM

This is pathetic.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:16 PM

"Gary Clark Jr. is the only bright spot"

Ummmm, ever heard of Roky Erickson??

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:16 PM

Metallica may have not played the Black album front to back before, but they've certainly played all the songs from the album during a show before

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:17 PM

only band of worth listed is arctic monkeys. they should be headlining.

it should be an arctic monkeys festival.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:18 PM

Does anyone honestly care about Arctic Monkeys????

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:18 PM

HOT SNAKES!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:19 PM

I want to hear what Liz Phair has to say about this festival before I decide whether to get a ticket or not

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:20 PM

Every festival should be an Arctic Money's festival!! WHO ARE "HOT SNAKES?!?" LOL!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:20 PM

"only band of worth listed is arctic monkeys. they should be headlining.

it should be an arctic monkeys festival."

This was either a miserable fail of a joke or you are just a terribly misguided 14 year old.

King Krule?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:25 PM

2:14 re: Metallica at Lollapalooza.
I think it was more that metal in general was considered dead at that point in the mid-90's, and they wanted to try to prove that they transcend genres or something.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:25 PM

1996 Lollapalooza was great. Metallica and the Ramones.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:27 PM

Point in fact:
Lollapalooza = not Metallica curated
Orion Music Fest = Metallica crated

it does make a world of difference

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:27 PM

I love that the first post was like "sausage fest" and shit but now that there are a bunch of hipster approved bands this is suddenly cool.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:27 PM

curated I mean ^^

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:27 PM

Best Coast....bwahahahahhahaha!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:29 PM

im guessing this is what the doomed Vineland Fest turned in to

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:32 PM

Isn't that the same weekend as the Gov. Ball at Randalls Island? i am not saying metallica will headline that but we could see some crossover artists that weekend. IE: Best Coast, Modest Mouse, Titus, Cage the Elephant, Gary Clark.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:33 PM

"Does anyone honestly care about Arctic Monkeys????"

ONLY PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE BRILLIANT SONGWRITING.

only band of worth listed is arctic monkeys. they should be headlining.

it should be an arctic monkeys festival.

"This was either a miserable fail of a joke or you are just a terribly misguided 14 year old."

I WISH I WAS 14 (WELL, MAYBE NOT). I'M OVER 40, NUMBNUTS, AND KNOW OF WHAT I SPEAK. PERHAPS YOU ARE THE UNDERDEVELOPED 14-YR. OLD GIVEN THE FACT YOU OBVIOUSLY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:42 PM

@2:41....you like Arctic Monkeys over Roky Erickson. Nuff said

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:43 PM

brilliance on metallica's part to bring expose a new generation to their shitty 'black' album and sell another 15 million copies!!! not knocking those openers--i can't, 'cause i've never heard of any of them!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:45 PM

This festival has a lot of Austin artists. Is that why Danzig isn't playing?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:46 PM

Only bright spot for this fest is Roky. If he were smart, he would drop out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:50 PM

This line-up is a fucking mess.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:50 PM

Weak sauce

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:52 PM

Let's get back to the real issue here, when is Trapt going to be confirmed?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:53 PM

Unfortunately I don't think Roky has much say in his career these days. He seems to just go where his handlers point him.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:55 PM

"ONLY PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE BRILLIANT SONGWRITING."

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:56 PM

I heard Metallic is going to play Hummus in it's entirety.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 2:58 PM

"This is a beyond shitty line-up. Gary Clark Jr. is the only bright spot (albeit, very surprising), but fuck. This does not bode well."

roky erickson, black angels and the goddamn hot snakes are all far from shitty. in fact, i'd go for the hot snakes alone.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:00 PM

the trash quotient is not going to understand what's going on when the other bands are playing

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:02 PM

Cool lineup, though I'm doubtful as to whether Metallica diehards will like much of it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:03 PM

Will Modest Mouse play their more rocking tunes? From the top of the ocean, yea-eah! From the bottom of the sky god-da-amn!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:09 PM

3:03, I don't care if Metallica die-hards like it. I like it. This type of lineup (as opposed to an all metal lineup) will slightly decrease the meathead-quotient.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:18 PM

yay for cage the elephant!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:22 PM

What a load of crap. I've never heard of half of those acts. Oh, and Arctic Monkeys are there purely to attract the kids.

Posted by Sid | February 7, 2012 3:24 PM

well, if you've never heard of them, they sure must suck!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:29 PM

Ride The Lightning>The Black Album

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:29 PM

@2:55 agreed. Saw Roky at Southpaw a few years back and the dude killed it. Saw him again at Maxwell's and honestly felt bad for the guy. His handlers really sucked the life out of him - that show was an epic fail.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:32 PM

3:24, why not enlighten yourself to new music?
Metallica probably hand-picked most of these bands (I know that Kirk, for one, has always been a fan of SubPop bands and other indie bands, since the '80's). Cage the Elephant is probably on the list, because they are also managed by Q-Prime.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:33 PM

The only thing i got out of this thread was 2:41 is a 40 year old virgin

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 3:34 PM

3:33,

Don't bother, it's probably one of those mindless meatheads who doesn't understand any music that's not lowest-common denominator sludge rock (such as Godsmack).

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 4:09 PM

phish will also be having one of their festivals here the weekend before. and then a country music festival in the fall in the same spot with kenny chesney. and one more in the fall again. nice.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 4:11 PM

I'll only go if I get to nail J-Wow before "Ride The Lightning"

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 4:12 PM

but da MURRMMURREEE REHMAAAYNESSS

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 4:17 PM

hey, 2:10. I was working and just got to see your retarded comment. Obviously I meant "Enter Sandman" within the correct order of the Black Album. I assume that you are one of the people I was referring to. Thank you for proving my point.

Hot Snakes bitchezzzzzz! Bet Lars was whining all day long until the rest of the band finally gave in to Avenged playing. What an idiotic band!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 5:50 PM

Fucking Hot Snakes? Pretty decent line up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 6:20 PM

south jersey metal band faith or fear--just released a new album called titanium on lost and found records and toil records--if youve heard them or know them you know they should be on this bill!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2012 10:08 PM

This has nothing to do with Metallica trying to "regain" popularity. This band plays stadiums all throughout Europe and South America. This is everything about doing their own thing.

If they wanted to play it safe, you'd see another "Big Four" show that would guarantee 50k easy tickets sold. This is about exposing bands to more people. Diversity is never a bad thing. Leave it to Americans to get another of a tiny handful of fests that mirror what's happening in Europe, only to bitch and moan.

Posted by Allie | February 8, 2012 1:12 AM

I'd watch trapt before liturgy any day.

Posted by ron | February 8, 2012 1:19 AM

Pretty good bands playing.Minus Avenge Sevenfold.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2012 8:49 AM

2:13 got it right. Metallica doesn't have anyone left to impress. Let James smoke.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2012 10:33 AM

Roky seals the deal for me...hope he plays both nights...
