Pitchfork

The press release say:

The 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival returns to Chicago's Union Park Friday, July 13 - Sunday, July 15! Seven years in, this independently run three-day event has consistently proven to be one of the most welcoming, comfortable, reasonably priced and rewarding weekends of music around.

A tremendously focused and thoughtfully curated event, the Pitchfork Music Festival has historically introduced emerging bands while also honoring a great number of already beloved and internationally renowned acts. This year continues with that high standard and welcomes Vampire Weekend, Feist, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hot Chip, AraabMUZIK, A$AP Rocky, The Field, Liturgy, Kendrick Lamar, Grimes, Cloud Nothings, Tim Hecker, and Willis Earl Beal! But this is only the beginning! There are more than 30 acts to still be announced.

Additionally, we are excited to announce that the Pitchfork Music Festival will not be raising ticket prices in 2012! Our goal has always been to create an affordable atmosphere with music at its focus, and do so in a way that is sustainable and exciting. So why raise ticket prices if you don't need to, right? Tickets for the 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival go on sale Friday, March 9 at 12 PM CST, with single-day tickets for $45 and a limited number of three-day passes for $110! Based on years past, three-day passes will sell out very quickly. Tickets will be available on the festival website.

In addition to its musical offerings, the Pitchfork Music Festival also features a wide array of other activities for its 50,000 attendees of all ages from 45 states and 26 countries to easily enjoy. With 50 individual vendors, as well as specialty fairs, the fest not only supports local businesses and economy, but also promotes the Chicago arts community as a whole.
The full Chicago festival lineup so far, including Willis Earl Beal who we recently hosted in the same city (where Willis happens to also live), is listed below...

Tim Hecker is the only thing interesting on this. I hope he makes everyone feel uncomfortable.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:13 PM

GYBE getting into the festival action. Seems like they finally want to get paid. Good for them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:14 PM

That's for the second stage, right?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:14 PM

damn...i wished Cloud Nothings would be at Lolla

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:16 PM

Pitchfork is always a good, small festival. Most of the time, the headliners do not appeal to me...but Feist? That makes me not want to go this year.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:16 PM

too many festivals and shitty venues these days...

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:21 PM

I thought Vampire Weekend broke up.

As for Feist...Let's just hope she plays on Sunday, around 12:30 pm, ya know, right during BRUNCH!

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:21 PM

STOP telling people bout Beale St.
THX

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:24 PM

VW and Feist is enough to make me NOT want to go

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:25 PM

I don't envy anyone trying to put together a good festival lineup in this mediocre-ass music climate.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:27 PM

LOL terrible lineup

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:29 PM

Grimes suck live

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:30 PM

I'm shocked that Grimes is playing Pitchfork fest, I didn't even know she was on their radar.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:31 PM

Grimes....isn't that the lead character from The Walking Dead?

Also, hopefully this means an NYC-area Hot Chip date soon fools!

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:31 PM

this is better.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:33 PM

I would give that lineup at 3.1

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:40 PM

Better line up than ATP this year!

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:45 PM

loliturgy

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:52 PM

Definitely not interested in that lineup, but always the best festival size and pricewise.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:55 PM

MAC MILLER SHOULD BE HEADLINING THIS - THUMBS UP.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 12:58 PM

"I'm shocked that Grimes is playing Pitchfork fest, I didn't even know she was on their radar."

she just got Best New Music. PAY ATTENTION

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:00 PM

Rick Grimes is gonna be there? I'm more of a Shane fan myself.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:00 PM

"Tim Hecker is the only thing interesting on this. I hope he makes everyone feel uncomfortable."

I agree, but that probably won't happen. I remember when I last saw David Allen Coe at MHOW about a year and a half ago, expecting him to make hipsters feel uncomfortable. Felt more like a warm welcome instead. Eh...

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:02 PM

they need mancum

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:05 PM

I've enjoyed both of my trips to Pitchfork Fest, and I don't share the widespread hatred of the site that many commenters seem to, but that's a shitty fucking lineup. The only upside is that if Godspeed is doing another festival, then I can hold out hope they'll get added to ATP.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:15 PM

Is this a reflection of the shitty state of music or just a reflection of the shitty state of Pitchfork?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:23 PM

"she just got Best New Music. PAY ATTENTION"

Troll food

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:24 PM

What's Pitch Fork?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:25 PM

went the last two years. had the best time. dont know if ill go back. this lineup leaves a lot 2 be desired.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:29 PM

Yuck (not the band)

Posted by The Man Whose Opinion Matters Most of All | February 28, 2012 1:30 PM

i usually go to this, but man this lineup so far is pretty awful.

Beale Street!

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:37 PM

man.....

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:42 PM

love how you all trash musical acts whose dicks you were sucking 5 years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:43 PM

@1:43 5 years ago feists dick WUZ worth suckin

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 1:53 PM

1:33 is just mad that he bought non-refundable tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 2:02 PM

Shocked that Sleigh Bells is not at this Festival. I guess even Pitchfork jumped off that sinking ship.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 2:03 PM

I still don't see the appeal of Godspeed and an outdoor venue.

Posted by BLG | February 28, 2012 2:05 PM

Godspeed outdoors at night in the woods = win win win
Godspeed during the day in Grant park = no win

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 2:07 PM

lol GYBE is "pretty awful" lol and such a short set lol lol

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 2:14 PM

People who honestly think that "Tim Hecker is the only interesting thing on this line up" don't like live music, obviously.

Posted by marc | February 28, 2012 2:28 PM

"I still don't see the appeal of Godspeed and an outdoor venue."

I don't see the appeal of GYBE at a festival, but the outdoor show at Big Sur sounds amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 2:29 PM

Didn't Pitchfork Fest have new and excited bands in years past? Maybe Madonna will be the overall headliner. Just because you can get the big famous bands doesn't mean you need to do so.

Posted by Cory | February 28, 2012 2:51 PM

GYBE at a 200 year old church in Manhattan was amazing. GYBE playing a short set in the sun underneath a Pitchfork banner will be cynical and depressing.

Pitchfork in 2012 is like Rolling Stone was in 1979, or Spin Magazine in 1991. Completely over.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 3:48 PM

Vampire Weekend! HORRAY! blahhh... Lets end this festival once and for all!!

Posted by blah | February 28, 2012 4:02 PM

To add to 3:48, comments on Brooklyn Vegan were completely over in 2005.

Posted by Dan | February 28, 2012 4:13 PM

Saying ________ was completely over, was completely over in 1974.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 4:31 PM

hey 2:07: good thing pitchfork isn't held in grant park.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 4:31 PM

What an awesome festival this used to be.

What a fucking terrible lineup.

What a disappointment.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 4:33 PM

The lineup so far isn't bad, but Feist? If she is a headliner than this festival just went downhill fast.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 4:38 PM

Going downhill fast is completely over.
These days is all about long and drawn out.
That'll be completely over soon, too.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 4:49 PM

Three sentence comments are over. 140 chars or bust.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 4:54 PM

put a fork in it, it's done.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 5:31 PM

These bands don't meet my hummus quotient.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 5:48 PM

I like Godspeed, but the one time I saw them I was bored to tears.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 5:52 PM

funny.. saw silver mt zion a few years ago and they made some joke about having to play some awful festival (i believe they called it 'pitchfork heatwave' as a joke ). funny to see GYBE playing this. good for them getting paid though.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 6:10 PM

The Field is amazing live.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 7:51 PM

How long until they book Jeff Mancum? Also since when does Pitchfork have a clue who grimes is.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 11:55 PM

Pitchfork in it, it's done.

Posted by Gnargusto | February 29, 2012 3:57 AM
