The Shins at Terminal 5 in 2009 (more by Natasha Ryan)
The Shins

The Shins are set to perform on SNL on March 10, ten days before the release of their new album, Port of Morrow, due out on March 20 via Aural Apothecary/Columbia Records. It will be the band's second SNL performance (they first performed in 2007).

While they're in town they'll be playing a streaming show too:

The Shins are back! NPR invites you to experience the anticipated new album Port Of Morrow in an exclusive live concert stream via the new NPR Music iPad app. Download the free NPR Music app to watch the live show on March 7 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
The show will take place at a club in NYC.

Though no public live-and-in-person NYC shows have been announced (yet?), the Shins' upcoming tour currently includes Bonnaroo, Sasquatch!, Coachella, and SXSW. All announced dates are listed below.

They just released a video for the album's single, "Simple Song," which you can watch below, along with a lyric video for that song's b-side, "September," and all dates...

It's at LPR. They listed it on their website a few days ago. Not sure if it's still up though.

Please don't give this man any more of your money. You have battered wife syndrome.

So about that last minute show announcement...

Shins were never a great live act, but they are a lot better with this new lineup. Siren fest was a long time ago my friend.

james mercer and friends play shinsy sounding songs

Awful live band. Saw them when they opened for the White Stripes in Brooklyn.

I HOPE THEY PLAY THOSE TWO SONGS OFF THE GARDEN STATE SOUNDTRACK!

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2012 10:18 AM

I hope they play "Pass my Pita" or "Baby Carrot Blues"!

Is NBC paying BV for all of these SNL references?

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2012 12:35 PM

How is it at LPR when there two events scheduled there already for 3/7?

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2012 2:35 PM

Love the new single Simple Song! The video is so dark. I do like how the dad sticks it to his kids in the end, great old man prank. After hearing the single I can't wait for the new album on 3/20. http://www.vevo.com/watch/the-shins/simple-song/USSM21200008

Love this video. Very cool. Cannot wait for Port of Morrow in March, or to see them in Columbus in June!

Woah. The shins is one of those bands that is able to actually capture emotions from past experiences and bring them right back as if we were emotionally time traveling. The blend of this song and video is magical, immaculate, and unforgettable. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be living during a time that a band like The Shins exists... I'm simply blown away by everything they do. I am so anxious for the works on the new album... just three more weeks away!

Where is this show happening? It's clearly not at LPR, anyone know?

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2012 10:25 AM

the show was clearly at LPR

the new band is super legit

richard swift & jessica dobson slay

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2012 12:36 PM

Was there, band was legit. Crowd was chatty as fuck though. Anyone get the setlist?

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2012 12:47 PM

Watched the video on my ipad, and sound from WFUV through the stereo. Actually probably better sounding than actually being there. LPR is not a great sounding venue. So did not need to actually be there. Did not think it was legit at all. Yeah jessica and Richard are great but the show seemed quite boring. Did not love a lot of the new songs. Seems like time for The Shins might have passed.

By the way stop referring to this as a band. These are hired players for Mercer to tour with for this record. Big difference.
