Gerald, you are an utter failure as a commenter and as a human being.

Terribly sad.

How could Whitney Houston die while John Cage has lived to be 100

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2012 8:46 PM

All my prays

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2012 8:50 PM

I'll speculate that it was heart failure (like Peter Steele - same age too!) brought on by the cocaine.

I got to feel for Bobby Brown though. He often seemed in worse shape than she did.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2012 11:37 PM

The world is colder today. The sun is not as bright. The wind is more cutting, and the entire human race is not as brilliant and gifted as it was with Whitney. Sure she has had a rough go over the past decade plus, but that span of approx. 1980-1998 was like a gift from Heaven, one that we were all richer for.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2012 1:06 AM

"Whitney was the benchmark" Simon Cowell

So true. So sad. So long, Whitney, until we meet again.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2012 1:08 AM

R.i.p. Whitney! Whatever which way whitney died, let's please remember her daughter & mother, along with her other loved ones. Let's not add any extra pain to whatever already is an excrutiating pain already.Despite her faults, and the way she may have died, she was a human being. She mattered, and she was loved.

Posted by Julie | February 12, 2012 4:23 AM

This is really sad news. I will miss her and her music.

Posted by Kris | February 12, 2012 5:55 AM

"Scum" , you say? Artists die, their stock goes up. It"s called capitalism.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2012 11:40 AM

My conscience is clear. I never spent any money on her music, so in essence, I never bought any of her drugs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2012 11:43 AM

Crack is Whack... No hope in dope... But it's a good day on special K.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2012 11:56 AM

I don't think that you that are younger can really appreciate just how amazing Whitney was as a force in the 80s/90s. She was literally The Greatest voice, and she was smoking hot to look at, and by all accounts she was a genuinely sweet person. Yes, she sang sappy pop music but her performances totally transcended the genre and made life stop for a couple minutes whenever she was on. It was like the voice of an angel. Devastating loss that started when she married Bobby and started deviating from the straight path. It was sad to watch her over the past decade, but she is one of the maybe handful of performers whose her earlier performances can in fact overshadow the bus wreck that ensued after. The younger posters that are being so witty with their snark here sadly will never know this. That is a tragedy, since you would in fact be nicer people if you had.
