The Jesus & Mary Chain @ SXSW (jnipmex)

The Jesus & Mary Chain played a SXSW show last night, Thursday (3/15), at the Belmont (same venue we threw our Daniel Johnston/Built to Spill shindig in on Tuesday). It was one of their four scheduled U.S. shows this month, though the first two were postponed/cancelled due to some visa issues. During their Austin set, to quote @liveflowers, "some guy just jumped on stage & stripped naked next to jim reid before getting thrown off stage." Stay tuned for pics as they surface. Check out a picture of the setlist from the 3/13 show, HERE.
Icy and great LA band Cold Showers fittingly opened the showcase, AND will play their very next show at noon TODAY (3/16) at Hotel Vegan in Austin (at Hotel Vegas, 1500 E. 6th St, Austin, TX). They are the band that was previously marked as "TBA" and join a lineup that includes Polica, The Twilight Sad, Tennis, Youth Lagoon, TRUST, Light Asylum, Eleanor Friedberger, The Black Angels, and many more. If you're in Austin, stop by! Check out a video of Cold Showers performing in "Room 205" below...

You never need a a Cold Shower after a night of smooth & mellow triple distilled whiskey.

Why is anyone supposed to care about a naked guy at a concert? A naked woman could be newsworthy, but still stretching it. Is there really so little going in Austin this week?

Get your facts straight BV! Did a naked guy "run on stage" or did a guy run on stage and then get naked? Inquiring minds want to know!

How were JAMC? Still not playing loud enough like everyone complained about in 07?
Posted by Anonymous | March 16, 2012 11:51 AM
Never jocked crystal stilts, but I still like them. Crystal stilts can form a melody and have hooks.

I originally read it as Naked Raygun were on stage with JMC. That would have been interesting.

Imagine listening to that Cold Showers song and thinking the people in the band are stylish and cosmopolitan - and then you find out they're so endlessly, impossibly dorky and lame.
Cold Showers indeed!

A few screw-ups, but from what I've read reviews were pretty positive, they mentioned the volume was greatly improved, but that could also be a venue issue...
"The at capacity crowd ate it up. They got to see their heroes in a cozy courtyard space, backlit in blue and green, at earsplitting volume."
