Nas at Rock The Bells (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Nas

Cue sad trombone...

The next time you buy a Nas album, you're really just handing your money over to the government -- because the rapper's delinquent tax filings have caused Uncle Sam to begin garnishing his wages... Nas is in tax debt up to his eyeballs ... if his eyeballs were $6,000,000 tall.

So the government has finally tired of waiting for Nas to pay up, so they filed documents in the state of Georgia to have his wages garnished -- via the music publishing organizations BMI and ASCAP -- until the debt is paid off. -[TMZ]

In related news, I was happy to see that those NJ-based promoters being held captive in Africa due to a Nas no-show in Angola, were let go back to the US (after being held for close to 50 days).

Nas did show up for SXSW this year though, and spoke to a VEVO interviewer in the process. Watch that talk below...

Sad Trombone rules. I'm hitting that button every time someone says something stupid in the office.

Wow, what a scumbag. First he bails on doing a show in Africa, putting the American promoters' lives in danger... Then he renegs on paying for the missed gigs in full.. and now he's a tax evaded. Douche.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 2:02 PM

Evaded = evader

Timothy Geitner doesn't pay taxes either and the government never garnished his wages. In fact, most IRS workers don't pay their taxes.

BMI and ASCAP have nothing to do with record sales...they're performance rights agencies that collect money for public performances of music such as on the radio, in bars, etc.

Six million, that is some serious tax and penalties. He needs to be outperforming like every night for 4 years.
