Cocksparrer & Street Dogs > Sham 69 & Murphys Law. Philly win.

Posted by Blag the destroyer | March 7, 2012 2:52 PM

With public transportation this day and age I heard you could actually go to the NYC show and the Philly show, as they are not the same day. See Sham 69 and Cocksparrer.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2012 2:57 PM

I've taken a shit in Philly, and have taken one in NYC. It is a toss up, either will do.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2012 3:14 PM

is The Mob playing?

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2012 3:19 PM

Philly is the armpit of America.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2012 3:35 PM

"Cocksparrer & Street Dogs > Sham 69 & Murphys Law. Philly win."

That's debatable, but these shows are not even on the same day. Sham is Wed, Cocksparrer is Thursday. Go to both.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2012 3:39 PM

If Philly is the armpit, Newark is the asshole. But, I think they swap "honors" every few years.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2012 3:39 PM

@ 2:52: street dogs better than murphys law w/ the templars? jesus fucking christ this site is retarded. street dogs fucking suck. go back to watching boondock saints and listening to dropkick murphys or whatever faux irish shit you like.

ps saying shit like "win" outs you as an internet shit talking basement dweller.

sorry for the meltdown just had to get that off my chest.

When will Jimmy G. fucking end Murphy's Law (Jimmy's Law) already?

Their last full-length album came out ELEVEN YEARS AGO, their last three full-lengths blow, Back With A Bong! was the worst of the six NYHC band Rock Hotel Records releases, and the first album was second-worst (as the Cro-Mags and Leeway releases destroyed them.)

Dude's 47 and still chugging Jager and smoking weed. Grow up and get a real job.

Murphy's Law: Play your final show ever on New Year's Eve 2013, exactly thirty years to the date of your debut show. Three decades is a nice run...for a band who would have done nothing the last 17 of them.

Posted by D | March 8, 2012 2:30 AM

the SF SHAM show was a disco set. fer reals

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2012 3:52 PM

$29.50 ticket psssshhhh eat a dick. So I guess Sham 69 is going back to what sells huh? True sellouts.

I just checked Rocks Off's website and see Bad Brains is playing the city next month. Another band who needs to hang it the fuck up besides Jimmy's Law. Bad Brains? More like Shit For Brains, which is what anyone who pays for them in 2012 has.

Which HR will people get? The one who actually shows up and means it or the wackjob who barely sings if at all?

'Funny how the older and more washed up a band is, the more it costs to see them.

Jimmy Drescher is one of the most genuine people I have ever met, very inclusive and has done so much for keeping real punk and hardcore alive in NYC you should be embarrassed talking shit about him. The only really so-so record they put out was Best of Times. The others are all great. The fact that he still does it for the love of the music gives him a major thumbs up in my book.

Their last two-full lengths are criminally underrated: Dedicated and Best of Times.

I heard they are working on a new full-length and I am looking forward to it.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2012 8:50 PM

@ 5:32 What do you want? A $10 matinee show in someone's basement in Bushwick? Give me a fucking break. The dude's are traveling from the UK for a handful of shows and have been at this for almost 40 years. They have to get something for their effort. They have a right to finally earn a living. Or is that not "punk?"

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2012 8:52 PM

I meant "Dedicated" and "The Party's Over" as two great Murphy's Law records. Best of Times is the only semi-dud.

The Best Of Times, Dedicated, and The Party's Over suck dick. Proof is Jimmy's Law barely plays anything off them. Sure they're working on a new full-length. If it makes you sleep better.

Jimmy G. is either a cool guy or a dick depending on how he perceives you. He's a hack whose been milking the first two Murphy's Law albums for over a decade. If he's so "inclusive" why are all Jimmy's Law shows in NYC 21+/shutting out kids? Cuz his band is a bar band and has been that since I can't remember. How has he kept hardcore punk in NYC alive? He has NEVER taken a young/new hardcore punk band from NYC on tour or even weekends and he never will. 90% of the bands who open JL shows at Trash Bar aren't hardcore punk bands. That St.Patrick's Day show undercard is a rarity.

-------------------------------------

I don't want "a $10 matinee show in someone's basement in Bushwick" and LOL at you for thinking someone would charge as much as $10 for a basement show. I don't "want" anything. $29.50 for a band who changes their sound according to what they think sells is not "punk" by a longshot, and they have not been at it for 40 years. I resent oldass bands charging tons more than current, active bands. Sick Of It All has been around since 1986 "Nonstop" (pun intended) and able to keep admission prices for their NYC shows under $20, and last I checked most of those guys do just the band(Craig is the only guy I've heard who has a side gig.) If they can do that, so can Sham 69. You can make plenty of money charging say $17 advance, $20 day of show.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2012 8:52 PM

---------------------------------

You've been inhaling too much of what's been in the air at Jimmy's Law shows. JL's best output is the first two albums. Neither guy who wrote that music is in the band anymore (Al quit in '88, Todd quit in '99.) They've put out exactly TWO albums the last two decades. That's bullshit.

Posted by D | March 8, 2012 10:36 PM

@10:36 What the fuck have you ever done in music? You sound like a bitter douche. Why the hate for a dude who makes very little money off Murphy's? I've seen the guy literally giving away merch during a show just for the fuck of it to be nice.

Sham 69 started in 1976. Although Sick of it All is a much bigger band, how do you compare the two? SOIA started in the mid to late 80s.

It is laughable people complain about $30 tix for a legendary punk band when a rapper like Rick Ross charges $80 at Hammerstein.

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2012 2:17 PM

Stret Dogs are so much better than ANYTHING murphys law has ever done. Bad tattoos , weed and metal do not make for a good combo....especially when yer close to 50.

D/10:36 you make some good points but mostly you sound bitter at ML/Jimmy.

PS to reiterate, street dogs fucking blow donkey balls. you guys wanna talk sausage? check out street dogs. fucking mall punk, bonehead, scally cap (or whatever the fuck those stupid hats are called) wearing, wannabe boston thugs/skinheads. jesus christ. music for guys not jock enough to get into a frat.

-------------------------

What have I done in music? Nothing. So fucking what? I doubt you've done anything either or you'd have the balls to say what like I have the balls to tell you here I've never been in a band. Too late, douche. I guess with your bullshit logic I can't call Rush Limbaugh an ignoramus for what he called that female college student because I'm not a talk radio show host.

Yeah, Sham 69 charges $29.50, Rick Ross charges $80, and a band with 1000 more integrity than both put together (Sick Of It All) makes it a point to not charge even $20 advance for their annual hometown show, thanks. BTW SOIA didn't just start in the mid-80s, they've been around ever since without a hiatus. And know the year they formed (1986) and that that year isn't "late '80s" before you try to laughably equate Sham 69's impact on underground music to SOIA's, douche.

Jimmy does Jimmy's Law for very little money? HAHAHAHAHA. He makes very nice money for milking two albums released in the '80s or he wouldn't be doing it for the past 28+ years. Bullshit he gives out merch outside of tossing a tee or two into the crowd in his Jager-weed fueled madness.

Posted by D | March 9, 2012 10:18 PM

4:13pm

I'm not bitter at Jimmy/Jimmy's Law, I'm tired of seeing their name on shows and so many people make them out to be some great band when they're not. They haven't put out a new album since the last year of the Giuliani administration or a good album since their first one released 26 years ago which was just that: good not the masterpiece it's made out to be. It's 2012. Time to hang it up, especially when you're not putting out a new album.

Sick Of It All should be the last 1980s NYHC band standing today. They never left like EVERY SINGLE FUCKING 1980S NYHC BAND AROUND TODAY did. They are the only real NYHC band left when you look at them from all angles (musically, lyrically, work ethic etc.) NYHC is officially, finally dead when they break up, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Posted by D | March 9, 2012 10:34 PM

Actually, Long Island is the armpit of America. asshole is a toss up between Williamsburg + Bushwick.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2012 11:23 AM

@10:18

I love Sick of it All too, but I still don't understand all the hate for Jimmy just because you don't think the records have been good. You have some freaky personal vendetta against the guy and I am trying to figure out why. And no, I don't think he makes a lot of money off he band at all. If he did, why would he have a day job?

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2012 3:32 PM

3:32

I don't have a "freaky vendetta" against Jimmy, but you can think that if you like. I don't hate Jimmy either, I just think he needs to end Jimmy's Law (what it is and has been since Todd quit in '99) and move on with his life when all he does is milk the first two albums released in the '80s and seemingly has no desire to put out new music. Also he's pushing 50 yet still acts like he's 14-25 years old. It was funny in 1992, it's not now in 2012 and hasn't been in many years.

Just because Jimmy/someone has a day job doesn't mean he doesn't make at least decent money off his band and where did I say he makes "alot" of money? And maybe you should learn to read cuz I wrote "He makes very nice money for milking two albums released in the '80s or he wouldn't be doing it for the past 28+ years." which he does. I will say he probably makes less money than he did in the '80s and early-mid '90s but that's what happens when you put out three shitty albums in a row in 1991, 1996, and 2001, don't put out a new album in 11 years and counting, and won't put out new music.

Posted by D | March 10, 2012 4:52 PM

For the record, this is my first comment in this thread. How it turned into a Murphy's Law/Jimmy G. debate slash SOIA fanboy session I'll never know but my point is that the influence of both those NYC bands, regardless of how you feel about either of them, doesn't come close to the global influence that Sham 69 has had in terms of the (street)punk movement. They come from two different scenes and eras anyway and shouldn't even be compared. But I think both Jimmy and SOIA would admit that they would have never formed had it not been for late 70s punk bands like Sham 69 and the bands they birthed like Cockney Rejects, Last Resort, Angelic Upstarts, 4-Skins, etc.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2012 5:06 PM

Pres Hall Jazz Band > Sick Of It All

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2012 5:27 PM

First off, I didn't start a Jimmy G/Murphy's Law debate and I'm not a SOIA fanboy, dick.

I don't know what alternate universe you come from but NYHC as a whole including SOIA and Murphy's Law was/is not only street music, but the realest street music there is and ever will be. Sham 69 turned into a disco rock band and all those bands you listed were/are big in the UK and with East Coast skinheads/ex-skins only, so you lose.

I seriously doubt Jimmy and SOIA would say they wouldn't have formed without Sham 69 and the bands you listed who would've formed had Sham 69 existed or not. You seem to forget that NY had a punk/art rock scene led by The Ramones and Television starting in the early '70s, LA had a punk scene in the mid-70s, and Bad Brains formed in 1976 as Mind Power then changed their name to Bad Brains in '77. Also don't make me laugh and tell me the UK bands had anything to do with what was in Greg Ginn's mind in the early-mid '70s when he was plotting Black Flag cuz he was and still is his own entity/in his own world.

Murphy's Law and Sick Of It All wouldn't have existed without the early '70s CBGB scene, the mid-late '70s LA punk scene, Bad Brains, the early '80s NY, Boston, DC, and Midwest hardcore scenes, and Black Flag before Sham 69/UK punk.

'Funniest thing about the comments for this show besides our back and forth (as I'll assume you're the same person) is no one has argued that Jimmy's Law is a good band or really went off on what I said about the quality of their music which has been the birds since '89.

12:36 if I'm a loser, you're an even bigger loser for going out of your way to reply to me. I'm not an old man, but say I was 15 in 1989 which would make me 37 or 38 today depending on when my birthday was. 37 or 38 is not "old" save in your little hardcore fantasyworld where everyone over 20 or 30-whatever is "old".

Posted by D | March 11, 2012 6:00 PM

2013 should be Murphy's Law's 30th and final year and they should play only two NYC shows:

Jimmy's birthday bash on a boat 8/12

New Year's Eve (exactly thirty years to the date of the first Murphy's Law show.)

Uncle Al on guitar for the b-day bash show, him and Todd Youth on guitar for the NYE show which should be the final show ever (Al playing the first album followed by Todd playing the second.)

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2012 6:46 PM

6:38

Oh wow you are a dumb fuck. 25 years...hmmmm...2012 - 25 = 1987. Plenty of people have cared about Sick Of It All and even Murphy's Law after 1987, I was one of of them until 1991 when both traded in their intelligence for letting the very thugs who ruined NYHC starting in '89 be their roadies and toadies, and quasi-sponsoring these roadie-toadie bands.

LOL @ you posting under the name "Anonymous" saying I'm not brave. What's your hangup with how old I am and me being a SOIA fan?

6:40 (most likely 6:38 I got in a lather haha)

Is "douche" all you can come up with. I call myself D, right, at least I call myself something unlike you (for the umpteenth time.) If anyone is keeping this thread alive, it's you. I am far from angry, I am having a ball riling up the likes of you. Three replies to me since my reply at 6:00, Jeez. You must have this bookmarked. Get a life. Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2012 10:51 PM

"D" spent 6:45 to 8:45 hitting refresh refresh refresh but no one wrote back to him. Sad "D" .. Oh, fuckit I'm just gonna call it "Douche" from now one.

So, Douche puts "D" in the name box and thinks that this earns him some kind of cred, in that he's no longer anonymous? I think that you're right 6:46 - just a garden variety low IQ drone. Could be a supermarket, but I kinda see him at a deli counter or cleaning fish as they come into Fulton Fish Market. Nothing to taxing, and not too much actual public interaction (with the poor attitude and no doubt the neck tats (s)he'd be scaring off the poor grandmoms that would come in for tuna salad or whathaveyou)

But really the funniest part of all this is that I know for a fact that there are multiple people baiting him, and his foaming mouth conspiratorial swinging at air reactions has him convinced that it's all one adversary. Hey, how about I sneak behind him and kneel down behind his calves, and one of you others give him a good push backwards, then we can laugh and laugh at just how much he won't get upset, he won't get embarrassed, because he's good enough, he's smart enough, and doggonit people like him/her/it.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2012 11:40 PM

It's okay that you want to post like you're several people, 11:40pm, as I doubt more than one person gives a flying fuck about my posts on here enough to post with one comeback after another. It's so obvious it's one person (you) considering every bashing of me has the same running theme that I'm old (in the fantasyworld of hardcore you live in), a SOIA fanboy (even though I never said I was a SOIA fan), stuck in the past (even though I call for Jimmy's Law to either put out new music or hang it up), and someone who works in a bodega, a supermarket, or a fish market (when I work in none of those jobs and so what if I did?) Funniest thing is you actually increased my earnings with every occupation you think I work in as fish cleaner is a union job with full benefits, you fucking dumbass. LOL.

According to this pseudo-schizo, I'm an aging SOIA fanboy who has neck tats and works at a bodega, a deli counter, or a fish market when fact is I'm a late 30s dude who stopped giving a fuck about SOIA after 1990, has zero tats, and makes $32 an hour plus full benefits. If I'm a geezer, you're a non-thought/sperm/fetus/infant/toddler when I got into hardcore bitch who most likely missed the '90s underground music scene as well as the '80s and I pity you, I truly do.

Posted by D | March 12, 2012 12:04 AM

BTW there is no more "Fulton Fish Market" as operations at the South Street Seaport moved to Hunts Point in November 2005, over six years ago, fucknut.

Oh wait, you moved here after the market's move, right? Yep. Or you didn't read a newspaper or watch tv news cuz the move was reported everywhere. Too busy being a transplant nerd who wants as little to do with NYC as possible he won't even read the papers or put on the local news to find out about a widely reported event.

D totally lives in Queens.

12:21am

I'm not 38, shithead, and so what if I was?

I make $3800 after taxes every four weeks, plus benefits which includes three weeks paid vacation, paid sick and personal days, annuity, health/medical/dental/eye & ear care where I make only $10-15 co-payments. Add to that I don't blow my money on beer, weed, cigs, or hard drugs, or eat takeout dinner 4-7X a week like you and the rest of your Williamsburg hipster faggot asses do, and I come out pretty damn good.

Yeah, that's real shit pay for a guy who pays only $750 a month in rent and has no wife, kids, pets, or car (OH NO! I have to have that as well as pull down at least $100-150K a year for an Anonymous faggot who is soooo deeply concerned about my age, occupation, and station in life.) I pay only $750 a month (thus have $3050+ a month after rent) for a place I split the rent on with a woman you wish you could bed down with.

If I'm a loser, you're a total fucking loser for replying to me.

Posted by D | March 12, 2012 12:52 AM

^ this guy makes more in one day than you do in three bitch if you make 15k a year. BTW 15k a year is almost exactly what you'd make if you made minimum wage.

Internet tough guy who has got it all figured out? Talking tons of shit about a band who aren't even the subject of the post? No Wife? 38 years old? I'll call a spade a spade.... you're a total loser.

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2012 12:55 AM

Oh right, I have to be married by whatever 20-something or 30-something age, or by age 37 to not be a loser, and I can't be 38 either (even though I'm not that yet.) I'm so broken up that I haven't found a wife!!! Dipshit.

Who the fuck are you to call me an internet tough guy when you post as Anonymous, bitch? I'm not talking shit I'm calling a spade a spade: Jimmy's Law sucks dick, needs to hang it up, and should've hung it up many years ago. Ditto for Sham 69 2012.

Posted by D | March 12, 2012 1:06 AM

I made three times as much as D does now my first year out of college in 1999. True story.

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2012 1:06 AM

Yeah ok 1:06am. If it makes you sleep better.

Hey jism for brains, it's still called "Fulton Fish Market"
http://www.newfultonfishmarket.com/

But you wouldn't know that because they don't have any pizzas delivered out there, and you only cover Jamaica.

Rent = $750 a month? What are you gonna do when mom throws you out of her basement?

OMG, this stuff totally writes itself. Keep it up D, you're pure comic gold.

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2012 7:59 AM

yeah, right. What can you rent for $750 a month in NYC? D lives in a garage.

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2012 11:02 AM

^ Douche obviously lives in the midwest. He has stated that he doesn't live in Queens, but has not stated (or rather, claimed) to live elsewhere in NYC. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do a google and figure out the names of a few sections of Brooklyn, and Fulton Fish Market moving was national news. Nah, $750 a month sounds like Ames, Iowa to me. Hayseed, he is - wheat and sausage.

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2012 11:41 AM

(I meant The Douche, not you 11:02. Don't want you to think I was dismissing your valid point)

Isn't this about Sham 69?

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2012 2:11 PM

This is about D spreadin' the hardcore reality! Fresh for 89! This is the most important thread in BV history.

^It's true. Before this thread I had no idea about the politics surrounding the inner workings of Murphys Law. In retrospect, how did I manage?

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2012 2:52 PM

Yeah ok 1:06am. If it makes you sleep better.

Murphys law has given many a sleepless night...

D has given many on here indigestion

You got to love D. Anyone who gives you an itemized breakdown of their personal finances in the Brooklyn Vegan comment section is obviously very bright.

Posted by Anonymous | March 18, 2012 10:48 AM

I have this gut level feeling that D is the same person as the now infamous Arctic Monkeys fan

Posted by Anonymous | March 18, 2012 12:59 PM

I have a trust fund, off-shore bank accounts, a condo in Williamsburg, vacation home in Aspen, a yacht docked at my mansion in Miami, an apt in Paris, and six luxury vehicles. I live w my Scandinavian super model girlfriend and we never eat hummus. It's disgusting. We usually order foie gras when we dine out. People are constantly telling me what a good looking guy and all around very cool person I am.
I have no idea what Sham 69 is and have never heard of Murphy's Law. My week beats your year.

Posted by Anonymous | March 18, 2012 6:17 PM

^if you start eating hummus you could hang out w/ the north side jacuzzzi boyz

Posted by Anonymous | March 18, 2012 6:52 PM

jacuzzi boyz? Are they like servants? How much does one cost?

big fan of sham 69

Posted by jordon | August 4, 2013 8:29 PM

oh christ almighty!!!
Sham can be credited as helping foster the american hardcore scene. Every front man from major H.C. bands cite their love for Sham. That being said...Sham did not condone the absurd actions of the 'Sham Army' but not forcefully speaking out against them didn't help. Hence Sham became a studio band for awhile.

As for Street Dogs....I worked with Mike and the guy is geniune. Faux thug? When did any member of that band even aspire to be one? That shit is macho bs anyway. Johnny Rioux started The Bruisers who had a strong following and Mike remains, depending on whom you ask the most charismatic singer DK murphs had.

Street Dogs tour relentlessly and record consistently well-thought records. Jimmy G. or Jimmy's Law or whatever should not even be discussed in the same sentence.

2 LPs in 2 decades? Talk about milking it. Nothing new to say? No creativity to build upon? and yes, Street Dogs play shows where the majority are 18 and up or all-ages and with fair admission costs.

I rest. As for Sham...well, their days have long passed but seein' them at CBGBS had Pursey looking very passionate.

Posted by jeff | September 12, 2013 2:45 PM

Lastly, Street Dogs played the Wisconsin rallies for economic justice and remain active. Mike being pro-union and pro-fire fighter.

ummm, any member of the bands you guys have been bitching about in this thread do that? Yeah, I thought so. Well, Pursey played White Riot with The Clash to demo oppressive parliment practices. But that was decades ago.

fuck you hipsters.
