Tenacious D @ SXSW 2012 (cicatriz83)
Tenacious D

Jack Black & Kyle Gass aka Tenacious D, who just stopped in Austin make their live return at SXSW, will release a new album of (hopefully) funny and rockin' songs called Rize Of The Fenix on May 15. They said:

"We recorded down and dirty in a friend's garage with a shoestring budget of 600 dollars, much like Nirvana's first album "Bleach"-or the Beatles first album "Help". Rough and yet a masterpiece."
May tour dates in support of that masterpiece were previously announced and include the Sasquach Festival.

It has now been reported that the duo will be heading out on a summer tour that brings them back to NYC to rock our socks off at Hammerstein Ballroom on June 28th! Tickets ($55) for the NYC show go on sale Friday, 3/30, at 10am. We also have a pair you can WIN. Contest details, the new album art, with all currently known tour dates, and some videos from SXSW, below...

You all thought Linsanity was over. One loss to the Raptors proves nothing. Came right back and destroyed Philadelphia. LINSANITY LIVES.

You have to be fucking retarded to go watch this band live. Seriously, "stupid shit white people only like!" sort of thing.

bit pricey, but they are fun live.

Shut up, loser. This will be fun.

Remember when they played MSG? That was weird

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 12:33 PM

Come on guys, this joke has got to be stale by now.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 12:34 PM

12:28 is white and proud.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 12:34 PM

what was weird was that they played MSG like the week their movie came out. and the movie completely bombed.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 12:47 PM

would rather see Wired Al, he is the John

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 12:53 PM

OBEY THE D!

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 12:57 PM

12:34: It HAS been for at least a decade now. I preferred Tenacious D when they first came out with the short HBO specials right after Mr. Show.

Bow down to the D!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 1:04 PM

Only interested in the acoustic duo, not if they have the full band.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 1:15 PM

It was a much smaller setup at MSG when they played too. Wouldn't want to venture a guess how many people were in the place.

They're a niche. If you like them, the shows will be a good time.

big fire birds that look like giant penises are funny

Wired Al, he is the John. John Yanckovich

Let's do this!

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2012 1:52 PM

I paid less to see the Allmans this year

Wasn't a huge fan of the movie, except for Paul F Thompkins cameo. But I've always loved the music itself, and Black was pretty great in the Muppet Movie.

Posted by Black fan | March 26, 2012 4:41 PM

these guys are still a thing?

Posted by d | March 26, 2012 5:28 PM

Tenacious D are as funny as Jonah Hill.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2012 12:59 AM

Thought the early skits were kinda funny, there's definite no reason for them to exist in 2012, though.

Their new video for "To Be The Best" is great!! I can't wait for Rize Of The Fenix to come out in May :D Check it out if you haven't seen it yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nai7w1frB1E&feature=player_embedded

I know that many of you probably enjoy Jack Black and his type of comedy, but he makes me both physically ill and wanting to whack him in the face with a lead pipe every time I even think about him. I may be alone in this feeling, but my gosh I really can't stand his brand of "entertainment"
