Williamsburg Park
Williamsburg Park
Williamsburg Park

Goodbye state park Williamsburg Waterfront. Welcome city park Williamsburg Park. Located less than a block away from last summer's venue, between North 11th and North 12th at 50 Kent (I hope they book 50 Cent), Williamsburg Park is the new outdoor Brooklyn venue that will host OSA-presented concerts this summer in Williamsburg. The new space won't have a water view, but it also won't have a caged off beer area or state troopers walking around. And unlike at Williamsburg Waterfront, all money raised at Williamsburg Park will stay in the city. There will be food and, as mentioned, beer.

With a capacity of roughly 7000 people, the work-in-progress Williamsburg Park will host as many as 20 shows this summer, with about 1/3 of them being free. There might be other things happening there too (they still have a lot to figure out). You can see artist renderings of the space above, though those are not final sketches. In fact, there will definitely not be a raised viewing platform right in the center of the space.

The first show announced is Refused & OFF! on July 18th, part of a tour for the two bands. Tickets are on PRESALE now (username: refused, password: tickets). And:

Tickets to the July 18 concert will be available on Friday, March 30 at 12pm EST via Ticketmaster.com, charge by phone 800.745.3000, Service charge free tickets are available at the Best Buy Theater box office, 1515 Broadway at West 44th Street, 212.930.1950, and Sound Fix Records, Williamsburg's independent record store, located at 44 Berry Street in Brooklyn.
Stay tuned for more show announcements soon.

I hope they book Lana Del Rey.

nice place.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:49 PM

Awesome graphics.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:50 PM

Well, this just got a whole lot better. Now on to booking better bands.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:53 PM

they better still have the guys selling the balloons outside...that last widespread panic show was so incredible!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:53 PM

My guess for ticketed shows here this summer:

At The Drive In
Bon Iver
Gotye

????????

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:54 PM

no view of the river? whats that blue wall?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:54 PM

So, there's a big fence blocking your view of everything? It was bad enough when they moved the stage so you had to stare at goddamn apartment buildings during the show, but at least you could turn around and enjoy the sunset over Manhattan. I hope that I'm wrong, but...

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:55 PM

Cool, Williamsburg Waterfront was kind of a joke last summer so hopefully this place will get some decent bookings.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:55 PM

I love how in the artist rendering you see the same people used over and over in the crowd...

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:55 PM

minecraft?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:55 PM

This is nice. A little too big I think but with a 7000 capacity you are almost certain to be able to get cheap/under face tickets week of/day of. With the caliber of bands they are having there and yes that includes the AT The Drive In show.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 12:56 PM

Well, I am all for more concert venues but I do kind of feel for the neighborhood old-timers...in fact perhaps something we all should consider is being respectful of the neighborhood as we stampede through it; a lot of the residents have been here for generations and are older...y'all got grandparents right? Just, you know, try not to be too obnoxious..

Posted by Joshua Sanders | March 28, 2012 12:56 PM

I'm going to stampede through this neighborhood, throw my trash everywhere, take a dump on the street, blow up and pop balloons, etc. Gonna rule!

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

OFF! wants to remind you to turn OFF the Internet by reading about their upcoming show on the Internet, btw.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:00 PM

In this part of the neighborhood that blue wall certainly belongs to a sewage treatment plant / nuclear waste holding facility that doubles as a day care for yuppie and eurotrash children.

@102 let's just hope this isn't in dowistrepla

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:03 PM

At The Drive-In is def playing this venue. I can see it already. Also what the fuck did they throw this shitty maya model in like 3 minutes with playstation graphics?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:05 PM

1:02 You are incorrect Sir.Nice try.

In other news, JellyNYC is having a double bill of Danny Brown and Friends playing on the corner of Kent and S 1st street. A wading pool will be there as well.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:10 PM

1:02 they will not have people playing that happen to be headlining ny-area festivals this summer-beck, snoop, etc. nice try, but why would you post a fake lineup?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:14 PM

It actually makes sense as it mostly is the same people over and over in the crowd at these hipster shows...

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:17 PM

curious. i want to see what it actually looks like before shitting on it. i have use for a beer cage

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:19 PM

1:14, cause he is a stupid loser troll much like others who post fake lineup's for every festival announced. Trying to make some sense of people who have no life, which is many of the people commenting on here, is futile.

I can see Beck and Fiona Apple playing there after Governor's Ball. Not sure about M83 but, then again, their two other NYC-area shows sold out so it makes sense that they might announce another one.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:21 PM

Beck/Snoop/M83/Fiona can't play other NYC shows assuming those promoters have half a brain and have good radius clauses....

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:23 PM

yeah, it's a paved lot surrounded by two blue/white warehouses. google street view that shit.. what a beaut.

Posted by Dan K. | March 28, 2012 1:23 PM

"Beck/Snoop/M83/Fiona can't play other NYC shows assuming those promoters have half a brain and have good radius clauses...."

Sure they can. M83's two shows are sold out so it doesn't matter if they add another date. Beck/Snoop/Fiona can book dates that are announced after their respective festivals are over.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:26 PM

Id rather forget all this crap and have it go back to the way it was when you could hangout and get drunk while having one of the best views of Manhattan in the area.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:27 PM

Williamsburg is so passe..

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:28 PM

"Sure they can. M83's two shows are sold out so it doesn't matter if they add another date. Beck/Snoop/Fiona can book dates that are announced after their respective festivals are over."

You clearly don't know what a radius clause is. Or you work for Live Nation

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:28 PM

"M83's two shows are sold out"

(snicker) Tickets to be had O' plenty

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:30 PM

it really isn't at 50 kent ave.

if you look on google maps... the entrance to the location would be at about 57 North 12th Street. Give you a better sense of what it's going to look like.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:30 PM

I enjoy the way even in planning they are expecting to have a serious line of people waiting to get in....

also yea, sad the view is gone but the bill last summer was so poor, with exception of TVOTR and BSS, that at least this will hopefully improve.

a return of some free sunday shows with good bills would be amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:32 PM

@128 are you talking about the same radius clause that allowed M83 to book a summerstage gig alongside two already announced gigs at terminal 5? you're cool.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:35 PM

i heard Grimes already sold out 10 shows ...

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:36 PM

@135 - those are both Bowery shows. Same promoter. Thus radius protects them. zing!

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:37 PM

lulz at the festival radius clause guy. have you ever been to coachella? more than half the artists playing do a show the week before/after in the indio area. they even have a separate schedule for it

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:38 PM

What 1:27 said.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:38 PM

I just want At The Drive-In

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:39 PM

FYI the list @138 posted also proves that M83 has a show in between the two coachella weekends in the Indio area. so that's a pretty strong argument against a radius clause applying to M83.

Tune-yards is on there too, no 'radius clause' for them i guess.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:40 PM

@138 - I can see Radiohead in Indio mid week? Nice! (ur an idiot)

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:40 PM

Can u guys post the shows in Indio mid-week, if this is actually true!? That link just sends me website mainpage. would be huge and save me dough

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:43 PM

M83 HAS NO SHOWS IN INDO MID-WEEK SOMEONE IS LYING HAHHA

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:46 PM

i am sure there will be many shows booked to cater to the local "Latino" population ...

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:49 PM

"You clearly don't know what a radius clause is. Or you work for Live Nation."

I do know what a radius clause is. I do not work for Live Nation.

Point being, I wouldn't be surprised if after the Governor's Ball festival is over (i.e. it's over so there is no need to worry about competing ticket sales), Fiona and Beck announced additional area-shows. I don't understand why this is such a hard concept for you to understand.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:49 PM

I will only go if my favorite promoter Bowery Presents is handling the bookings.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:50 PM

Tune-Yards aren't playing Indo mid-week during Coachella! Way to get my hopes up dicks

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:51 PM

The "radius clause" is how many hipsters i can hit with a bat if i swing it in a circle at a venue as such..

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 1:57 PM

RADIUS CLAUSES #FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 2:02 PM

Am I the oldest person here to remember the Jelly party at McCarren Pool? Those were fun, but I liked the switch to East River Park better, even with beer jail. This new venue looks like an over sized parking lot with no view.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 3:28 PM

you would have to pay me a lot of money to go to williamsburg

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 3:35 PM

I'd prefer to keep the beer cage in favor of the view, but I suppose that's not helpful to the bottom line.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2012 3:43 PM

No bueno. I'm sure the condo owners appreciate the distance, but this new venue is basically a closed off industrial parking lot. No grass, no view, no thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | March 29, 2012 12:14 AM

There will be grass there my man... Like some serious grass if ya know what I mean.

Posted by Anonymous | March 29, 2012 2:35 AM

Gov Ball has no radius clause so that's not an issue for Beck, Fiona, MM. Modest Mouse is playing The Orion Fest the day before Gov Ball and unless it's fairly small, there is no radius clause since it's 131 miles according to google.

Posted by Anonymous | March 29, 2012 6:53 AM

I bet the Arctic Monkeys and Wilco will play here.
