Andrew W.K. @ Webster Hall

"Andrew W.K.'s 2001 album I Get Wet is one of those records that tends to polarize people; it combines monster riffs, giddy lyrics about partying and beautiful girls, and living-in-the-red maximalism in a way that either electrifies or makes people reach for the ANYTHING ELSE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD button.Andrew W.K.' "I Get Wet" tour, which ends this weekend in Florida, and stopped in Austin for SXSW, hit a sold out Webster Hall in NYC Monday night (4/2). Here are some pictures. More of them, with the setlist, below...Monday night at Webster Hall, though, the room was 100% in favor of the keyboard-wielding signer/motiviational speaker/club owner's debut, singing along from word one of "It's Time To Party" and taking that song's plainly stated message to heart throughout the evening. There was pogoing; there was yelling; there was headbanging; there were, at one point, about 40 people on stage who weren't contracted members of the band. A lot of the interlopers got off the stage in the most party-like way: They dove." [Village Voice]

I can't even imagine how much of a lose you'd have to be to go to an Andrew WK show.

For some reason I could always appreciate the cliched rock schtick of The Darkness for what it is...but this guy...it just never worked for me.

I for one never cared for or 'got' Andrew W.K. schtick or his music. But I have not seen pics of that many people having that much fun in one place in quite a while. and yea that purple girl is goddamn perfect.

When someone says "get wet" that's a term for being high on PCP. Was that the case at this show?
Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2012 3:25 PM
Even PCP couldn't make this shit listenable.
Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2012 3:48 PM
this show would have been fun if I was 75% retard

the soundtrack to date rape
Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2012 11:34 PM
More the soundtrack to a deodorant commercial.
WK should've explained the cover photograph as that of someone who'd just gone down on a woman who's on her period. I'd put that next my Scorpions "Virgin Killer" LP if he'd played up that angle.

People still stagedive? Um, please print warnings on those tickets that you will be attending a concert from 1991
Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2012 8:11 PM
Says the guy who learned about stagediving from watching nirvana videos. You are the king of concerts. Please give us a list of proper concert behaviors.
