Converge

There's this awkwardness that I love at a hardcore show, the moment when a beloved band plays a new song. It's clear that the crowd wants to dance and go nuts (especially, in the case of Converge who have a rather large hit rate), but no one knows what to do. I can see the Converge-fan's thought process now:

Do I swing my arms now?
Is it time to make the pizzas?
Should I start pacing in circles?
Is this the break?
Is this the end of the song?

That awkwardness happened a few times at Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 14th, when the Massachusetts band played with Pianos Become The Teeth, Git Some and Birds in Row. Converge's new tracks, not suprisingly, sounded exactly like you would expect (no left turns on these) and had names like "Aimless Arrow", "No Light Escapes" and "Empty on The Inside". Check out a video of the band performing "No Light Escapes" below. Of course it wasn't all about testing the waters; Converge also broke out the requisite favorites like "Eagles Become Vultures", "Concubine" and "Jane Doe" among many others (setlist below).

The confused Converge-fan will have the ability to get more familiar with the new tracks when the band teams with Rorschach, Indecision & Xaddax at Le Poisson Rouge on May 26th (!). Tickets are still on sale.

Though we unfortunately missed sets by Birds in Row (who just played another NYC show) and Git Some (them too), pictures from the Music Hall show continue below...

fucking hateful misogynistic sausage. go back to hitting your girlfriends losers.

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2012 6:47 PM

Massive sausage fest.

@6:47 Why misogynistic? You are the loser. Go jerk off to Feist, you pansy.

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2012 8:16 PM

Where do you think the sausages got the make the pizza dance from? Hmmmmmm....

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2012 8:55 PM

Pretty sure they played Plagues.

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2012 9:14 PM

8:55 yes, what could be the origin of that pizza dance?

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2012 9:17 PM

"fucking hateful misogynistic sausage", "losers" -- but no judgements here!

fools. this show was awesome, and this band is about as far from hateful and misogynistic as you can get. where exactly do you get that idea? because they have tattoos? maybe you should give them a listen, read some lyrics, learn something before you perpetuate your own brand of hate.

Converge is total attrition-core. Not bad but not The Second Coming Of Cro-Mags Circa The Age Of Quarrel Lineup people make them out to be. I could be mistaken but Converge is the last active/still putting out new music East Coast band from the early '90s hardcore scene besides Hatebreed who formed in '94 (Converge 92-93.)

LOL @ their booking agent Matt Pike calling himself "Matt Metal" back in the day. I know I never saw his face at any BHC shows 1990-92. Aaron Bedard from Bane, too, although he did do the embarrassingly bad "Backbone" who played maybe one show in/around Boston back then. Fronters.

Shit... now every kid will go listen to Martyrdod...

Posted by El Gato | April 17, 2012 6:22 AM

where was all the love for martyrdod back in 2005 when havoc put out their record?

I don't get this whole sausage thing. I don't get how you can hate on these dudes without knowing anything about them.

"Oooooh... they listen to different music than I do. They must hate women."

Sick show; crazy night. Pay no heed to the fruity trendies who just want to bash, since they're much more insecure about themselves commenting ignorant nonsense.

Let me guess. The lyrics to all the new songs were "Bok Bok Bok Bok Bok!!!"

Half of it is a joke to incite responses like 8:16. I wrote 6:47 and i've seen Converge a handfull of times.

Is 12:14 the famous "D" of BV troll fame? If so, you're a Boston guy? Jeez.

Hey D-

So, you're a 40 year old commenting on Brooklyn Vegan about what other people did 20 years ago?

If you never saw Matt Pike's face at a hardcore show between 90-92 its prob because he would have been 15-17 years old and living in Holyoke.

Have you made anything ever? Congrats on being the world's biggest dofus. Don't make me call your 9-5 job and make them block this site.

I'm with the sausage guy on this one..
Converge is like the TLC of their genre.

There's this awkwardness that I love at a hardcore show, the moment when a hot dude slams into me. It's clear that the crowd wants to dance and eat nuts (especially, in the case of Converge who have rather large ones), but no one knows when to do it.

Passive-agressive hipsters masquerading as quasi-fans. Well, that's a new one on me, right?

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2012 2:31 PM

i have listened to Converge and think they are awful
