Earth Day

Earth Day is being celebrated today. In NYC that means official festivities at Grand Central today (4/20) and tomorrow, and today in Times Square.

You can also stay green at the green festival at the Javits Center this weekend.

what ever happened to green apple fest?

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:36 PM

I actually happen to know one of the musicians listed and they are a perfectly fine artist.

I am sorry Tyler the Creator isn't performing for you.

If all the artists listed wore Sally Jessy Raphael glasses, would that make you feel better?

It's very rare when this site gives its actual opinion on the music it posts about...maybe there is a reason for that...on the other hand it serves me right for continually checking this site on a daily basis as it hasn't been relevant to my tastes since about 2008.

@1:37 kinda spot on

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:39 PM

@1:37 Agreed.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:42 PM

uh oh, 1:37 is in one of the bands playing this shit show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:42 PM

Maybe they were high when they wrote the subject line?

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:45 PM

@1:37 - well said and I can agree with most of what is posted here, however I also agree with BV as I've gone through each artist mentioned and only liked 1...and by like I mean can accept as being "ok" but I wouldn't go out of my way to see them. My guess is this event has a low budget or not enough viable connections.

Earth Day NY DOES need better bookers and while they're at it, better promoters as well. This line-up is DISMAL, at best.

P.S. Tyler the Creator makes my insides want to crawl out of my mouth.

1:37's musical tastes come from PBS late night

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:51 PM

1:37 is in a band called 1:37

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:52 PM

@1:37 = loves show tunes

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:52 PM

Are there even bands playing? It's hard to tell on that schedule through all of the sponsors and exhibits.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:53 PM

Probably just a budget thing. Doesn't seem like an event that would warrant spending thousands of dollars to appease tastemakers reading BrooklynVegan.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:54 PM

Wait, isn't the Nightmare River Band the band from Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas? That snake rocks!

@1:37 daaaaammmmnnnn you brooklyn vegan'ed brooklyn vegan yo

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:56 PM

It's not like anyone who reads or writes these articles is going to go to Grand Central or Times Square anyway so why bother even complaining.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:58 PM

Yeah, it isn't exactly the B52's in Central Park.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 1:58 PM

^ I remember that show, that shit was tight!

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2012 2:05 PM

I hope 1:37 stops coming here

Earth Day is for suckas

The booking is no different that most other local festivals: the bands come from the booker's friends and local circle.

The booker knows crunchy granola bands and that is what he/she books. Most BV readers are part of a different circle and therefore doesn't recognize the bands.

If the point of the bands is to have people come, then the booker is doing a really bad job.

What's the matter BV? Sore one of the three live music promotion monopolists Bowery Presents, Live Nation, or AEG Live isn't booking it?

If it was BP Ceremony would be playing this for their fourth NYC show in 2012 cuz you know, they need to play a fourth one.

stumbled upon this while searching for some info about summerfest...

i don't know if it makes a difference to any of you, but i was at grand central for the Earth Day NY fest. I'm not sure whether or not it was "granola," but I know I heard some really solid bands play some beautiful effed up (and fast-paced) tunes about drinking way too much and trying to convince your grandparents to light the lawn on fire...

but maybe i'm biased because i play drums in Nightmare River (and we LOVE Emmit Otter).

Earth Day should be full of festivities. And with that, we need a good music provider.
