High on Fire at the BV/POTR Deathmatch (more by Greg Cristman)
High on Fire

Knowing the High on Fire guys, it's safe to say that the Oakland metal trio will probably try to tour their asses off on the strength of their recent LP De Vermis Mysteriis'. Continuing to prove that true, now comes word that the band will headline a pair of NYC shows which will also feature appearances from Torche and Kylesa (who are currently touring with Gwar). The three bands, a repeat lineup from a previous tour, will hit Bowery Ballroom on August 1st and Music Hall of Williamsburg on August 2nd. Tickets for both the Bowery show and the MHoW show go on AMEX presale on April 25th at noon, and regular sale on Friday.

UPDATE: Torche and Kylesa are no longer on these shows, and have disappeared from the Bowery sites.

The shows are in addition to High on Fire's appearance as part of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival tour which hits Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ on 7/27, Saratoga Performing Arts in Saratoga Springs, NY on 7/31, and The Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT on Aug 5th. That tour includes names like Slayer, Anthrax, Slipknot, Motorhead, and many others, which vary by date. More details are available at the Rockstar site. All tour dates are listed below.

Miami four-piece Torche recently played NYC at Gramercy, are scheduled to hit the Orion Festival, and have a new LP in Harmonicraft. Stream that in full at Spin.

All tour dates and some classic video below.

"Steve Brooks: Jeff, we're not touring with HOF and Kylesa. I saw something about that on Brooklyn Vegan and it's wrong. We were like, WTF? We didn't know anything about it or our booking agent. Someone was misinformed. I mean, i'd love to do it, but someone needs to contact us first."

Uh...vote Romney?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:19 PM

In 2007, then-Illinois Sen. Barack Obama missed two votes on the student loan interest bill that he now wants Congress to extend.

Obama twice skipped the Senate vote on the College Cost Reduction and Access Act when the bill came to the Senate floor first in July and again in September of 2007, according to public records.

The bill, introduced by Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.) and signed into law by President George W. Bush, first cleared the Senate in July on a 78 to 18 vote, with Obama as one of only four senators to abstain. Obama did not cast a vote again in September, after the House and Senate had ironed out different versions of the bill. He was on the conference committee assigned to merge the House and Senate versions of the bill.

He issued a statement when the bill was signed by President Bush, saying, "by investing in education we are restoring America's competitiveness in the world, and today is an important step forward."

Obama has made keeping student loan interest rates low a new priority for his administration — but as a senator, he neither voted for Miller's bill nor signed on as a cosponsor.
