Lustmord

"On Saturday night the festival presented a commission: "Trinity," a collaboration by Lustmord, from Los Angeles, and Biosphere, from Norway. The West Park Presbyterian Church had been turned into a surround-sound environment.

Trinity was the name of the first test of the atomic bomb, in New Mexico, and the images on the video screen at the church were black-and-white film of desert landscapes, 1940s bomb technology and eventually the detonation. Lustmord and Biosphere are kindred spirits, masters of ominous ambience: enveloping, murky, ultra-slow-motion music. "Trinity" filled the room with tectonic rumbles and gradual whooshes, with tolling crashes followed by silences, with air-raid sirens, with claustrophobically thick cluster chords that were sometimes electronic and sometimes orchestral -- part Penderecki, part "A Day in the Life" -- and with spoken words from the era, wondering, "What have we done?" They embraced technology to question where technology can lead. -[NY Times]

The Unsound Festival came to a close after performances from Napszyklat and Maria Minerva, with DJ sets from Sun Araw vs. Heat Wave and Eltron John, Sunday night at Glasslands.

The Lustmord/Biosphere collaboration at West Park Presbyterian Church on Saturday (4/21) also featured a supporting slot from Jacaszek. More pictures and a video from that show, below...

If I went to this show and pressed play on my smartphone, does that mean I collaborated as well?

Looks like Lustmord was concentrating on the new Gmail interface.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 10:46 AM

say what you want about the performance or lack in your opinion....I enjoyed going and would gladly see it again. The archival footage was really neat for a history buff to see. The opener Jacaszek set was really good too..but his piano player had crazy eyes. Overall UNSOUND was great this year. Wish NY times mentioned Mark McGuire's amazing opening set at LPR. That was pretty much the highlight for me.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 10:55 AM

Lustmord was actually rearranging his Netflix queue.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 10:57 AM

he was catching up on the trayvon martin case.

Overhead during Lustmord's performance .....
"I really disagree with the decision to deploy Timeline in Facebook. It has yielded a much less engaging GUI and seems to frequently degrade response and network utilization."

I wish Lustmord would do some of his old stuff ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3avhU0N5lJI

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 11:31 AM

Anybody seen Mark McGuire recently? Dude looks really different since he stopped hitting the juice.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 11:43 AM

Highlight was definitely the Alt character solo. Alt+A >> Alt+O >> Alt+Q. Shit was fucking tight.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 11:50 AM

Not quite as funny as last year's comments. Let's kick it up a notch!

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:07 PM

wow a famous musician has the same name as a once famous baseball player lets make fun of such and void the actual fact you are fucking moron and missing out on the greatest living musician. Have fun you jerk off

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:10 PM

"greatest living musician....."

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:14 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:32 PM

12:31 your point??? thats lustmord...NOT mcguire....do some research before you make yourself out like the jackass you are in a public display

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:34 PM

It's only a matter of time before they forgo even the laptop and simply use tablets.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:50 PM

Anyone else notice the fool taking pics/video with an Ipad?...so was hoping it would drop and break.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:52 PM

Hey doucheface - "playing" a Kaos pad is not playing an instrument. Get your head out of your ass before coming on the internet next time. This time you get a warning; next time I may not be so nice. OK, on your way.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:59 PM

^he wasn't taking pictures, that guy was the rhythm section.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 12:59 PM

There was a moment when he jiggled a USB cable and the crowd did get a little wild.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 1:01 PM

Angry Dilbert-core.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 1:06 PM

These dudes look like they have a strong business accumen.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 1:08 PM

"Anyone else notice the fool taking pics/video with an Ipad?"

The fools are everywhere. Not sure what is worse: someone taking pictures with an iPad or someone taking pictures of video (the above pictures). It's the same picture over and over again, just with a different background.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 1:10 PM

Could use more Irwin R. Schyster. OK...I'll stop.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 1:11 PM

"Hello, I'm Mark McGuire."
"And I'm a PC"
"Oh, hey PC!"

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 1:11 PM

Who called for the Geek Squad?

"wow a famous musician has the same name as a once famous baseball player lets make fun of such and void the actual fact you are fucking moron and missing out on the greatest living musician. Have fun you jerk off"

i bet this same guy is just bitter because someone beat him to it

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 1:21 PM

to 12:59...your jackassness is amazing....mark mcguire from 2 second google search: Mark McGuire was born December 31st, 1986 in Cleveland, Ohio. He plays guitar, and also does experimentations with vocals, tapes, keyboards and other instruments. He is a member of the band Emeralds, plays solo and in various side projects. The person who used the Kaos Pad was Jacaszek...and IM sorry you are stuck in the stone age and cant see yes one is using such to create music...get over yourself and go back to get plowed by your bf while watching the Voice.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:04 PM

this must really have made his carpal tunnel flare the fuck up

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:10 PM

so wait, this was free, right? people don't pay for this kind of "entertainment," do they?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:14 PM

^it had to be free. No one is paying to see some dorks dick around on their laptops.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:19 PM

Man the poor ladies who thought they were turning up for church services!

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:32 PM

2:04 - I believe the correct term is "jackassitude."

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:38 PM

2:04 - you went too far, man. Don't fuck with The Voice. That shit is the SHIT.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:49 PM

2:04 felt compelled to write a paragraph to an anonymous troll to correct who was who in a picture from a "performance" that is universally dismissed as rudimentary and lifeless. Universally, with the exception of 2:04 and the voices inside his head. Oh, and the dog that keeps telling him to kill girls on dates in parked cars.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:52 PM

Ill put it this way...I felt more of a waste of time and money seeing HR front the bad brains then I did going seeing Lusty and Biosphere...Talk about a rip off....a tucked in velor sweat suit with shirt and tie underneath is a sign to hand it up and retired=...couldnt understand one word he said and singing???? (you call that singing). plus was there a reason why he had a geetar?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:57 PM

I remember Mark McGuire's 62nd home run well. What a shot down the line!

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 2:59 PM

hey 2:59 mcguire didnt hit 62 home runs...but Mark McGwire did...fucktard

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:03 PM

@2:57
Why do you go to geriatric reuinion shows and expect anything compelling? Oh, wait ... you are a Lustmord fan .... never mind

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:04 PM

Lustmord & Mark McGuire = the new bash brothers!

I mean, bashing on keyboards of course.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:07 PM

"I remember Mark McGuire's 62nd home run well. What a shot down the line!"

I thought his 70th off of Carl Pavano was a real treat though.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:08 PM

i saw him up close at that time - the scne scarring on his neck was unreal. no one who was anywhere near him could claim ignorance on the steriods.
oh, and this show looks retarded... and lustmord was probably playing Apple Adventure or Zork.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:12 PM

Mark McGuire will always be in our hearts. What other former baseball star has gone on to a second career as a laptop performance artist? Let's see Sammy Sosa do that? Come to think of it, has anyone seen Sammy Sosa lately?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:12 PM

Oh shit! This entire time I thought you guys were talking about the singer of Sugar Ray!

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:17 PM

I don't think my mind would have been able to hold it together for Biosphere and Lustmord? I'm pretty sure it would have melted.

Posted by Eric | April 24, 2012 3:28 PM

I would love to see next year's Unsound festival with a thumping-the-chest-waving-the-peace-sign as a moving logo.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:29 PM

What time does Mark McGuire go on at Shea Stadium tonight? Will I have time after going to Citi Field to catch the last set? Who will be pitching?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:30 PM

the trolls are sure out today

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 3:35 PM

what I REALLY want to know...which lustmord was more riveting last years or this years?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 4:28 PM

Alt key improvisation > F5 bomb drop

Everyone knows this

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2012 11:03 PM

anyone else think lustmord looks like louis ck?

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2012 1:39 AM

I would give him way more credit if he had to use DOS that shit was hard.

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2012 9:03 AM

Yes, Lustmord's non use of DOS is akin to using Autotune on vocals. Make it easy for yerself, why doncha?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2012 9:15 AM

cyber sausage

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2012 9:45 AM

Man let me get this straight..this guy pulls up a video of the history channel and places it on a projector...why are you paying for this? Get cable it will be cheaper.

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2012 9:50 AM

Why don't you guys watch the geek squad at Best Buy...it will be free and usually they have some music pumping over the loudspeakers..Also they have dozens of tvs on display with images...although most are for sale but stay awhile!

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2012 9:55 AM

Well i'd guess he was somewhat traumatized from what had just taken place, he is just a regular guy you know. I don't think it had anything to do with the money.
