strange times

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 1:24 PM

This is going to be awesome!!! Definitely the most comprehensive musical event NYC has right now.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 1:24 PM

How many of these bands are relevant? 5 out of 30? Girl Talk is so 2010

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 1:29 PM

Girl talk is 2010.
Hummus talk is 2012.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 1:33 PM

Are you kidding? This would have been a good show in 2007 or 2008

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 2:17 PM

So far this is hands down the best outdoor event NYC is offering this summer. Summerstage put out the worst line-up I have ever seen. And Governor's Ball has a solid line-up but is way over priced for what it is - a bunch of people from Manhattan that think they are "cool" for a weekend.

I am very happy I purchased my ticket for $100 which is a fucking steal in my mind. Yeah there are a lot of bands that were peaking in popularity in 2008-2009 on this roster, but who cares. I'm going to party like it's 2008 all over again.

This is literally the most pathetic attempt I've seen at a music festival. How could they not event get good bands playing Lolla next weekend?

Matisyahu is there. Thats all you need to know.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:12 PM

$140 for this shit! Are you kidding?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:15 PM

Looks like The Governors Ball just won.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:15 PM

3:05 if you typed all that and were being 100% serious, please I beg of you for the love of all that is holy to go shoot yourself. We have enough problems in the world and selective ridding of total idiots can only help.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:27 PM

Who ever is producing this thing is going to lose a lot of money

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:30 PM

The irony of this picture is hysterical

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:42 PM

They're waving their hands in the air like they just don't care.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:44 PM

I dont get how people moan so much on here, this is going to be great! what are the alternatives in NYC? Gov Ball doesnt have artists anywhere near as big as The Black Keys, Northside festival is ok, Newport is just boring. I'm down for this!

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:48 PM

Who cares about how 'big' the black keys are? they just played 2 nights at MSG, and are headlining every festival under the sun this summer. get a life.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:51 PM

Terrrrrrrrrible

Posted by ZAch | April 30, 2012 3:52 PM

I waited waaaaay too long to be let down

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 3:53 PM

Hey 3:27 have fun paying $100 a day for Governor's Island to see bands that are all on tour and/or at every festival this summer. Maybe you should purchase a ticket to one of the many summer festivals outside the city this year. You can see all the same bands.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 4:19 PM

Who ever booked this festival clearly doesn't know music. Throw a ton of $$ at the black keys, then book a bunch of other shite that nobody wants to see. Do they know that Snoop plays Irving Plaza when he tours NYC? This is awful.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 4:23 PM

So what Girl Talk ran out of frat houses to play?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 4:28 PM

didn't all these bands play Governors Ball last year?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 4:33 PM

3:05 here. Catalpa bookings must have been handled by someone living in the suburbs. I fully acknowledge this. But Governor's Ball line-up is pretty weak sauce, especially if you are going to one of the many festivals around the county (Sasquatch FTW). Like 4:19 said, you can see the majority of the bands at a festival.

@3:27 I actually considered killing myself when I saw how bad the bookings were for Summer Stage and the Williamsburg non-waterfront. The only good shows this summer will be at Pier 54 and Prospect Park half shell. That's why I gladly paid $100 for what looks what will be an empty festival with some quality reggae acts and a few 2008/09 buzz bands. Felix Da Housecat isn't so bad for house music either.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 4:42 PM

@4:42 - safe to say you work with this festival? Bowery did a great job booking the outdoor shows. Unless you consider Hot Chip, MMJ/Band of Horses, M.Ward, Sigur Ros, Wilco, Dirty Projectors, etc etc to be shitty bands. You clearly have awful taste in music. go away.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 4:51 PM

@451 learn to read

"The only good shows this summer will be at Pier 54 and Prospect Park half shell. " -@442

those shows = every show you just mentioned except MMJ

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 4:59 PM

this is definitely better than Northside, Gov Ball or any other festival New Yrok City has. Firefly in Delaware is ok but its 4 hours away and you have to camp and it all gets very expensive. $140 to hop on a ferry to this for 2 days is good. Id go just to see AraabMuzik and Hercules.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 5:41 PM

I love the blatant posts here by Gov Ball at 3.15 and for the next hour or so!! haha!

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 5:49 PM

@4:59 Props for reminding 4:51 he's/she's/its a moron.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2012 5:55 PM

Still don't understand how Snoop Dogg is a "headliner". Doesn't he play clubs?

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 11:35 AM

After considering the options, I am going to give Catalpa a shot this year! Good line up and some amazing visual spectacles apparently. I'm digging the boho vibe.
However, if it fails me this year I prob wont return next year! .... Ahem ... Governors Ball! You cant charge that much for second string acts! Ridiculous.

Props to the Catalpa website developers.. thats a flush looking site!
