I've really tried to like this, really have. I'll go listen to Circle Jerks and Black Flag instead.

The new Fucked Up. Totally.

I am Glad Keith is doing this band. The last Circle Jerks Lp was in 1995..He has a lot of angst to get out. Good to see him getting some much needed recognition.

The above video doesn't work..says "private"

I like OFF!, but they need to stop using the same exact chord progression in every damn song.

less talk, more rock

@10:25 What?

Nothing is as punk rock as the growing corporate monopoly of Bowery Presents.

OFF! is so overrated. I mean they don't suck but they're not The Second Coming Of Punk like so many clueless shitheads are proclaiming them. Another 16 song record in the can, this time self-titled with played out artwork which looks like it was done in an hour. Raymond Pettibon has officially become a parody of himself. I've read the album is 16 minutes or so long. So OFF! isn't doing anything different this time around? Of course, cuz they can't. They're sellouts on so many levels. Musically cuz they're doing the same damn thing as the first record. I give them one more album after this new one until the novelty wears off with the hipsters.

The Alligators with Roger Miret from Agnostic Front is as good as OFF! if not better - they're better than 2012 AF - they just don't have a hype machine behind them like OFF! has.

Give it a fucking rest with Cerebral Ballzy (huh huh so clever pssshhhh) a wannabe OFF! with their artwork by Pettibon who must've been paid a pretty penny to whore himself out, besides that they're a generic by the numbers early '80s hardcore punk played by people who weren't even born in 1980-83. Yeah they're on Adult Swim and have a booking agent from The Agency Group and that's the reason they get all these prime slots, that doesn't make them worthy of playing directly under Refused and OFF! at major NYC venues in back to back months. Those bands draw and CB doesn't. Talk about propping and pay to play - what else? This band has never headlined a show in NYC and if they did it was them playing over other no-draws like them. They don't draw yet they're playing right under Refused and OFF! Wack!

Oh yeah, one more thing:

Sick Of It All should play right before Refused at Terminal 5, Cerebral Ballzy opening and playing right before SOIA so the audience can see SOIA annihilate them in every way.

For once I totally agree with D on something...Cerebral Ballzy are a caricature. Did those guys even come out of the modern day hardcore scene...or did Vice Magazine create them?

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2012 4:01 PM

Cerebral Ballzy (herein CB) neither came out of the modern day hardcore scene nor were created by Vice Magazine.

CB came out having a connection getting them signed to Adult Swim (herein AS) and this connection and/or AS paid The Agency Group (herein TAG) to sign them, a win-win for TAG because 1. TAG makes money off CB before their designated agent even takes a cut (and the agency takes a cut of that cut) 2. it gives CB incentive to play out as much as possible so that they make enough money where AS and/or the connection feels the money was well spent or they have to repay AS and/or the connection. CB is a tax writeoff for AS, so AS can spend whatever they like on CB.

Also - I should've mentioned this - being part of TAG, it makes perfect sense from a business standpoint that CB, a NYC band who is part of TAG's roster, opens for a fellow TAG band which OFF! is (OFF! is booked by Andy Somers who is in TAG's LA office and he books/booked Circle Jerks who are still on his list of clients according to his page on the site.) When you sign to TAG, you get good shows no matter what your draw is. Also CB has an in with FYF cuz FYF booked the Refused and OFF! shows.

CB is all about who you know and possibly who you blow. I don't blame them for getting what they get, I'm just saying they get what they get on their connections and what they get propping them. My problem with them is they never worked for what they got. One record in four years and the shit is 18-20 minutes long? At least Keith Morris and Co. paid dues which is why I won't give them shit for being signed to Vice and TAG.

Off! are good, but nothing more. They still pale in comparison to Black Flag and Circle Jerks in my opinion. I've never seen them so I'm going to check out the Bowery Ballroom show. I'm not going to get into the politics behind their image, label, and how they're being promoted because all the guys in that band have put in their time and paid their dues. I can't say the same about Cerebral Ballzy. Never even heard about this band until they suddenly started opening for Off and playing overseas with Trash Talk.

BTW lemme say this about CB, and it isn't even about them:

This is a free country. You can start a hardcore punk band in NYC and not be part of the NYHC or whatever you wanna call it scene, just don't front like you are from it and not expect to be called out for it.
'Thing is I doubt CB gives a fuck.

In the end CB is like I said generic paint by numbers early '80s hardcore punk and they will not go very far with it like OFF! won't. Keith Morris has delusions of grandeur if he thinks he's making a living from OFF! long-term, especially if he keeps making the same album over and over like he's already doing with this new record.

You can die by the hype machine just as easily as you can live by it i.e. OFF! are hyped but one day the hype will stop and all you will have left to stand on is your music. Look at Municipal Waste. They were hyped up as "The Next Big Thing In Thrash Metal", now they are whoring themselves out to Scion and basically playing to the converted. No Bonnaroo or Jimmy Kimmel for them. They've plateaued. OFF! will plateau, too, cuz there's only so much you can do with a 30+ year old highly rigid style of music. Kimmel isn't having OFF! on again (pun intended.)

Keith paid dues, but the others paid jack shit. So what if one of them played in Redd Kross a hundred years ago, Redd Kross never toured. 'Thing with Keith is the first three records he appeared on are his best stuff and the last release of the three (Wild In The Streets) came out three decades ago. He had very little involvement with the hardcore punk scene once Circle Jerks (kinda) took off.

Sick Of It All paid their dues. Twenty-six years nonstop. The first hardcore punk band to make a living being one with integrity and zero sponsorship. In fact, I can't think of a single hometown show they played where there was sponsorship. How 'bout they play Bonnaroo, Williamsburg Waterfront, etc? Too old? Lou Koller is about decade younger than Keith Morris.

BTW Keith Morris is a fucking hypocrite. He tells people to get off the internet yet his band OFF! played a show sponsored by AOL.

LOL @ how the comments decreased as soon as I added my ten cents.

Cuz I'm right or alot of what I say is on point.

Keith Morris loves to make his band out to be some countercultural shit with "I Don't Belong" yet he sucks up to corporations and allows himself and his band to hawk products every chance he gets.

When you play more corporate, sponsored shows including ones booked by Live Nation and Bowery Presents (two of the three live music show monopolists in NYC, the other one being AEG Live), and play shows booked by promotion companies mostly like OFF! has, you forfeit the right to say your shit is countercultural.
