Jarvis Cocker & adoring fans @ Radio City Music Hall - 4/11/12
Pulp

Well, that was excellent... Jarvis Cocker wiggled and pranced around the room in his natty suit, geek glasses and Cuban-heel boots, a brazen showgirl in the body of a pervy librarian. Who else besides Jarvis would get cheers from a New York audience by announcing it was the anniversary of The Great Gatsby's publication in 1925? And who else would recite lines from the book while throwing Snickers and Milky Way bars into the crowd? "There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy and the tired," Jarvis said, quoting from Gatsby as a preface to "Something Changed," one of Pulp's big love ballads. "And if you are one of the pursued or the pursuing, this one's for you."

But everybody in a Pulp song is always pursued and pursuing, which is why their songs hold up so smashingly. They barely ever played the U.S. in their heyday, and Jarvis' superb solo shows haven't featured any Pulp material since the band split in the early 2000s. So ever since the band reunited the vintage "Common People"-era lineup, American fans have been waiting for this moment. -[Rolling Stone]

We >previously posted the setlist from the second of two nights, and now here are the pictures from Pulp's show last night at Radio City Music Hall (4/12) (though unfortunately none of opener Jeffrey Lewis) (venue rules).

Pulp

The band now will jet across the US to play Coachella. Pictures from Tuesday's show (which is also where the above review comes from) are HERE. More from Wednesday below...

For a near-50 man Jarvis can sure dance. Almost up there with Bruce Dickinson level!

So sick of this shit already. People, this was a 3rd rate band the first time around and they are no better now.

Posted by Mike | April 12, 2012 3:09 PM

3:09...is it physically painful to be that f--king dumb???

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 3:12 PM

Yeah 3:09, I guess Different Class is a terrible album. His n Hers really sucked too, right?? 3rd rate band for sure!

ps - read the above in a Neil Hamburger voice and add a go F yourself at the end. D-bag!

Pulp raped me! and I loved every second of it!

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 3:27 PM

This was the reunion to beat all reunion shows. Everyone complains about bands reuniting, but this one topped them all.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 3:29 PM

Did Jeffery Lewis play??? I don't think anyone saw him. :-)

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 3:30 PM

Damn, if the Pulp reunion was this good can imagine the Friends reunion in 2 years?

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 3:31 PM

Mike@ pril 12, 2012 3:09 PM: "this was a 3rd rate band the first time around "

Mike, they weren't even that good, Common People what a piece of shit.

The attack of the Gallaghers, right here on BV!

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 4:34 PM

His glasses are too big for the face.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 4:35 PM

Are you serious? Pulp are amazing live! And Jarvis....(shivers)... Love that man. You must have been at the wrong show because that was amazing!

Posted by Charlsie | April 12, 2012 4:35 PM

Britpop is just like the food over there...bland.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 4:41 PM

Killer show!

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:32 PM

went both nights. tremendous live show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:35 PM

Wonderwall was better the first night

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:36 PM

I think I'm going to puke. From all the vodka I snorted last night.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:39 PM

@4:35: You mean blandness on the level of any given brooklyn chamber-pop band with intellectual aspirations and no cojones? Surely not that bland, right?

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:41 PM

^CORRECTION: @4:41

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:44 PM

I'm so mad I didn't go!! FUCK!

They were fantastic. The in-between song banter was welcome, after-all, the guy is a character. The show flew right by, slow jams and all.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:49 PM

marvelous light show!

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:49 PM

Fucking faggots always gave a great time without me. Faggots!

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:55 PM

Best show I ever attended out of hundreds!

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 6:59 PM

Doe Jarvis tour with 50 of the same suits, or does he have them dry cleaned between shows? looks like the same suit every show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:03 PM

I'm really pissed I didn't go both nights.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:05 PM

Who cleans those suits?

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:07 PM

Oasis puts on a better show. It's just a fact. Liam is a better frontman. He sings better. Noel writes better songs. These are facts. Listen to Wonderwall and get back to me.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:08 PM

Common people was fucking amazing. Not better than the time Oasis played it. But it was.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:11 PM

I always hated Oasis because they were funny people. I generally don't like fun in my music. I put on Be Here Now and I realized what I've been missing all my life. Fun.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:15 PM

Someone needs to tell this man he's GOD WITH PULP.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:18 PM

It's as if Jeff Lewis never played. No one will remember...

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:20 PM

The kerning between the 'U' and the 'L' in the neon Pulp sign was a crime against typography.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:35 PM

I was there 2nd night. It was most enjoyable. But I was a bit upset for most of the show they had not played my favorite Pulp song Miss Shapes. I went to the bar during the encore to get a drink and they told me no more drinks. I was sad. Just as I walked back in the room, they played Miss Shapes!!! That was awesome and made my night.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:41 PM

I'm so happy I decided to go to this! Great photos BV!

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 7:50 PM

On the street, I paid $50 total for two seats in row G in sec 200 last night. The price matched quality.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 8:50 PM

SHOW
OF
THE
UNIVERSE.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 9:02 PM

Pulp is more than a rock band live. They are a symphony. There's so much going on stage. You'll never see a band put on a better performance. Never.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 9:02 PM

Way better than LCD!

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 9:03 PM

I got laid after the show, and it was the best show in the world too.

Posted by WINNING | April 12, 2012 9:04 PM

PULP was transcendent.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2012 9:18 PM

I've never seen a show that good. Jaw dropping.

Posted by Mark | April 12, 2012 9:54 PM

I wonder what kind of beard trimmer does Jarvis uses?

Excellent show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2012 10:10 AM

Way WAY too big a venue for this shit. Looks sterile to me.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2012 10:19 AM

Not really. The people in the back were having a blast!

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2012 10:35 AM

PULP made this the perfect venue. I had an all access pass, so I moved around a lot. Everyone was ecstatic all over the venue, and the sound was perfect anywhere I went.
