The Hives @ Coachella 2012 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Hives

Swedish rock band The Hives are getting ready to release a new album called Lex Hives on June 5, You can stream the first single at Rolling Stone and pick up the song as a 7" this Saturday in honor of Record Store Day.

Meanwhile the well-dressed quintet continue to make large crowds of adoring fans happy, as was evidenced by their 6pm Sunday set at Coachella over the weekend, and as will probably be evidenced by their 6pm Sunday set at Coachella this coming weekend, and as will definitely be evidenced at a special, intimate show in NYC on April 26 (except the crowd won't be that big at that one).

Where is this NYC show? I can't tell you yet, but you can guess. And to help you guess, we'll be providing new clues right here in this post thoughout the day. The first 10 people to correctly figure out the location will win a pair of tickets to the performance. If don't win, don't fret yet, as there will also be a limited number of tickets put on sale to the general public on Friday THIS EVENING (stay tuned for details).

UPDATE: You probably guessed it by now! Game over. Venue and ticket details HERE.

The clues and instructions on how to enter, below...

TO SUBMIT YOUR GUESS: email bvcontests@hotmail.com (subject: Hives). Include your first and last name and guess in the email. The first 10 people to correctly guess the venue that the Hives are playing on April 26 will be contacted with instructions on how to get their tickets to the show. You may only guess one venue at a time and once every 30 minutes. Your emails will not be shared with anyone or used for any other purposes than this contest. Good luck!

Why are clues continuing when people clearly have won?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:04 PM

AGREED!

Posted by HIVES FAN | April 18, 2012 4:05 PM

colonel mustard with the candlestick in the library

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:06 PM

yeah it'd be nice if they'd just stop it and notify the winners or announce that it's over. If anyone doesn't have it by now they're very clearly not paying attention.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:07 PM

the younger hipsters are still trying to piece it together...

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:08 PM

I want to go and honestly have no idea where it is.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:08 PM

When will this madness end!!??!!!??

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:09 PM

I guessed this right off the bat...if I didnt win then this is a huge waste of time

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:09 PM

It's Mrs. Peacock with a Rope in the Conservatory...

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:10 PM

has anyone been notified yet??

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:10 PM

So...did I win?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:11 PM

The studio at Webster Hall

Posted by Joesph Kalinowski | April 18, 2012 4:11 PM

I guessed this a while back and haven't gotten any notice. i suppose i'll be paying for my tix!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:12 PM

I guessed it correctly at about 1:30pm and haven't heard anything back.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:12 PM

yea i guessed correctly at 11:41, if i didn't get em then there's no justice in these streets! i wanna see the hives!

also i'm assuming the comments were allowed bc it's already been guessed by at least 10 people. which hopefully happened hours ago.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:12 PM

Another show at this big boring venue. Was really hoping for something more intimate.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:13 PM

this was probably over within the first 15 minutes, is there honestly anyone who didn't guess this? why is this going so long

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:14 PM

sent my correct answer at 11:39 am -- haven't heard anything

Posted by derek jeter | April 18, 2012 4:14 PM

what were the balloons for?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:14 PM

DEREK JETER IS GONNA BE THERE?!??!!?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:14 PM

I'm hoping you had to put "studio at" -- pretty much because I did put that about 4 hours ago.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:14 PM

4:13, it's the Studio at Webster Hall, it is anything but big and boring. Holds 300 max.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:15 PM

@414 it's near NYU. i also think those balloons are on the corner by webster

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:15 PM

415: he was trolling.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:15 PM

you definitely had to put studio at. no way they'd accept webster hall alone as the answer.

although idk if 4 hours ago would make the cut. i'm guessing the 10 spots were filled by noon.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:16 PM

tix on sale at 8pm is what i hear

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:17 PM

i think the balloons were for the fact that it's in the NYU area...you know, to narrow down the map somewhat.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:17 PM

i assume the balloons are a reference to those Webster hall parties during the weekend. the website i think had pics of balloons

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:17 PM

i didnt put studio. fuck my ass

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:18 PM

whats w the ritz cracker?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:18 PM

4:15, this is 4:15 and SO WAS I. (Not really. I'm naive.)

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:18 PM

the studio at webster hall

Posted by gregory lawler | April 18, 2012 4:18 PM

The balloons were for the opening theme song of the show Webster. He gets lifted up in the air by a big bunch of balloons.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:18 PM

Emanuel Lewis Hall!!!

Posted by Javier Buchananeversonia | April 18, 2012 4:19 PM

Pretty sure I got the right answer in at 2:25pm...reeeeeally hoping I emailed in time :-).

Posted by Steph P. | April 18, 2012 4:20 PM

@418 Webster Hall used to be named 'The Ritz'

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:20 PM

the cracker = the ritz = old name of webster hall

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:20 PM

Webster Hall was called the Ritz in the '80s 4:18

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:20 PM

I'm guessing the spots were gone by either 12pm or 12:30pm. That's after people had the time to guess twice. A large group of people probably had 'the Studio at Webster Hall' as their first or second guess. I should've guessed it first, but I guessed BB because I'm a dummy and didn't check the venue schedules.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:22 PM

It used to be called The Ritz...Can we get some onsale info.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:23 PM

i sent mine in at 2pm.... got an answer about 50 mins later... saying i'm on guest list.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:23 PM

^No you didn't.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:23 PM

@423 pics or didn't happen

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:23 PM

studio at webster hall would have been the first blind pick for a whole bunch of people, if you didn't submit till the second clue i'm guessing you are to late.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:26 PM

I said studio @ Webster hall at 1.13...and didnt hear a thing !

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:27 PM

Don't expect to hear anything if you e-mailed after 12:30PM. I'd say if you e-mailed after 12PM, but I'm trying to leave room for error.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:28 PM

Can you guys believe Chelsea is beating Barcelona? Can they hold on?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:29 PM

The Hives were halfway amusing back in their day, circa 2006. Time has passed. The kids don't like this Strokes/Cribs/Jet stuff. It's all about pseudo organic r

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:30 PM

BV, can you just PLEASSEEEEEEE make sure to announce on your website that the contest is OVER and the winners have been chosen before the tickets go onsale? so we're not sitting here thinking we might've won?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:30 PM

check www.excessdb.com or www.thestudioatwebsterhall.com i'd assume for ticket info

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:31 PM

Yeah seriously how the fuck is Chelsea pulling that off?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:32 PM

Now, lets play a fun game that helps us learn each others names!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:33 PM

Just received word that Dave Matthews Band and Jeff Mangum are opening, with special guest Fred Armisen, it's gonna be sick!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:36 PM

the balloons still stump me. everything else made sense

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:36 PM

I think the balloons just represented NYU colors, but it's near a lot of NYU buildings.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:37 PM

Yeah, that 1st album was good. After that I can't vouch for these Swedes .

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:38 PM

the balloons are just tied up on the corner of 11th near webster hall. google map sleuthing says so.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:40 PM

i got it, it's the studio at webster hall

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:40 PM

emails haven't been sent out yet. probably won't be sent out until after all the clues have been posted, even though all the winners have probably been chosen. relaxzxxz

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:42 PM

"The balloons were for the opening theme song of the show Webster. He gets lifted up in the air by a big bunch of balloons."

^THIS

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:46 PM

crapppp i sent in my answer at 2:45 which is probably wayyy too late, sucks cause i got it right also

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:47 PM

sent in at 12:44... DID I MAKE THE CUT?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:49 PM

I sent in at 12:00 on the dot...haven't heard back yet

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:52 PM

I sent it after I saw Grace Church, timestamped 1:02. It was my third guess and that was probably 2 too many.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:53 PM

I sent the correct guess at 12:11PM, and I even think that was too late. Hopefully I can get tickets when they go onsale.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:54 PM

Tickets are onsale in an hour so I'm hoping the winners are notified soon?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:56 PM

I really thought it was going to be something less obvious, thus this guessing game. Anything having to do with Webster Hall just feels like a weird thing to guess first.

Anyone else guess some more obscure venues for their first guess?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:56 PM

I honestly thought this was going to happen at Fred Armisen's House

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:57 PM

Of course "The Studio at Webster Hall" was never called The Ritz. The upstairs venue, or "Webster Hall" was the Ritz.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:58 PM

@456 I guessed Judson Memorial Church on my second guess. I suck at this.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:58 PM

They are taking all day to post the clues to get repeat views to the page and perpetuate the hype/coverage for the Hives and the show.

They aren't notifying the winners until the whole thing is over both for those reasons AND b/c if they notified that you'd won before all ten pairs then you could tell other people what the answer is (in a medium other than the comments).

You haven't figured either of those things out because you are stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:59 PM

@458 really guy? it's still a clue, give it a rest.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:59 PM

@4:56 how do you know they go on sale? it's still not up on the website

Posted by mk | April 18, 2012 4:59 PM

I went with Mercury Lounge for my first guess. I thought that was a solid shot.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:59 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:59 PM

@4:56, how do you know tix will be on sale in an hour??

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 4:59 PM

As if this weren't already a clusterfuck, now we have to wait in Ticketweb's infamous queue for tickets?? Ewww boy.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:00 PM

I'd rather see Twin Shadow on the 26th anyway. Cause I'm a fucking hipster.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:02 PM

i bet ticketweb won't crash - the show was randomly announced a few hours before onsale, and the onsale is after 5pm. i bet a lot of people won't hear about this till it's too late.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:02 PM

WHAT IS THE 7TH CLUE????!?!?!?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:03 PM

it says public onsale is at 8 when you click on the event, what gives?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:05 PM

I guessed the Studio at Webster at 12:07. Assuming I lost, though.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:05 PM

yea but it also says 'onsale at 6pm' in huge letters. maybe a presale? although this place is so small that it isn't fit for a presale.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:05 PM

Based on the times people are saying they guessed correctly, I was either the 10th person or I lost. Regardless, I'd like to know soon.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:06 PM

this was a pretty masterful/diabolical way of building site traffic, but i can't imagine 10 people hadn't figured it out by noon.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:38 PM

Funny those that won will probably be notified after the presale...pretty shitty

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:45 PM

Can you guys PLEASE notify the winners?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2012 5:55 PM

just got notified that I won at 6pm. emailed at 11:39am

Posted by derek jeter | April 18, 2012 6:01 PM

the studio at webster hall

Posted by Venkman | April 18, 2012 6:33 PM

I guessed the Studio at Webster at 12:07. Assuming I lost, though.
