Amanda Palmer

Amanda Palmer has now raised over $1,000,000 on the Kickstarter page for her new album, which had a goal set of $100,000. The campaign closes at midnight tonight (5/31) and in celebration Amanda will throw a party in Gowanus. Here's the press release:

Singer, songwriter, piano-slayer & super-blogger Amanda Palmer re-solidified her title as the queen of crowd-sourcing this week when she hit over $1 million on her Kickstarter. As a thank you to her community of loyal supporters, she will host a very FREE, ALL-AGES special event in Brooklyn tonight counting down the final hours of the 30-day Kickstarter campaign with those who have helped to launch her ambitious global release! Kicking off on a closed-down-street in Gowanus at 6pm, it will be open to the public and will count down to a celebratory performance-art-endurance countdown featuring Amanda and her band, The Grand Theft Orchestra. High-level kickstarter backers will then be treated to a special post-midnight performance in a nearby loft. The event will take place at 55 9th St. (btw Smith St & 2nd Ave) in Brooklyn. Those who are not able to make it to the street party in person can stream the entire event, including the live concert, at http://partyontheinternet.com/. Party go-ers should keep an eye on that link for any last minute updates & details.
The Kickstarter campaign was in support of Amanda's new album, Theater Is Evil, which will see a release this September. You can download the first single from the album, "Want It Back," above.

Amanda will be on tour this summer, which includes another live show in NYC at the sold out Music Hall of Williamsburg on June 27.

I wouldn't be friends with anyone who likes this music.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:08 PM

You lefties like dividing people into percentages still?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:09 PM

I'm pretty sure no one wants to be friends with you. You're not exactly turning them away at the door, am I right?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:10 PM

Holy shit. Artists with actual record deals don't even make $1 million anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:10 PM

Don't care for her music, but kudos for getting things done her own way.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:19 PM

Amanda can donate some to the Cake Shop and Silent Barn now.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:24 PM

she looks like a wrinkled sausage in a cheap dress.

jesus, this garbage passes for music?

if shit like this can raise a million bucks then the apocalypse is coming soon!

Posted by Jesus Philbin | May 31, 2012 3:29 PM

You hipsters that like this shit and gave her money better never talk to me about the starving children or poor baby seals ever, ever again. You got me?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:50 PM

Nice life.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:53 PM

Wasn't this already done, in Mimi's solo performance part in Rent?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:53 PM

I will be the first to say, this is crap. I am all about supporting artists but there are a lot of animals and hungry people that need help. I love that she is sitting lik escrooged mcduck on her money pile, married to a wealthy artist dude and has sold out shows in NYC and we are still handing her $$$. To everyone who gave $$, start working on your own stuff and give the money to your own artistic endeavor.

"if shit like this can raise a million bucks then the apocalypse is coming soon!"

SO TRUE!!!!

This is really a disgusting moment in music to see this thing get all that money.

To the people reading this who donated to this travesty all i can say is

SHAME ON YOU.

You have shit taste in music.

gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:56 PM

To quote biggie smalls... "Mo money mo problems"

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:56 PM

Love or hate her music (I personally don't care much for the little that I've heard), major record companies are watching this closely. Much like the Radiohead "donate a price" release a few years ago, stuff like this could potentially make major labels even more obsolete than they already are.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 3:59 PM

Oh god, I posted before but I just listened to that TERRIBLE song. Wow, this is so crap. I really put this song up there with Red Solo Cup by Toby Keith.

This is just a lesson that anyone can be a musician! Everyone get off your ass and make music, write songs, because people with little to no talent are making a lot of cash.

...need to check... going to listen now.....
will be back to report

Posted by curd | May 31, 2012 4:12 PM

seriously guys i made a totally average song can someone pay me a million dollars for it?

(nice.life)

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 4:26 PM

kickstarter works for you, you set up free party in the street. not my music by any chance, but that's pretty cool.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 4:28 PM

whether its $5 or a million her record is still going to suck
What about having some ethics and capping the donations off or donating 50% of all the money raised over the goal..

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 4:42 PM

crap. but better than seeing tuneyards' mustache all over bv.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 4:47 PM

Is this what they play at Goth Gyms?
I could do some serious pouting on a stairmaster to this jam while wearing some kind of Beetlejuice leotard with lace headband etc.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 4:55 PM

She's a Scientologist. She'll probably give the extra money to Scientology or just keep it.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 4:58 PM

Her supporters are all yuppie morons who probably bought CD's at Starbucks often also.

She's a Scientologist? That makes sense.

"Is this what they play at Goth Gyms?

This comment made my whole week. Thank you.

Posted by Really? | May 31, 2012 5:25 PM

They are shutting down 9th St between Gowanus and Carroll Garden? At 6 in the evening? That sounds like a sh1t-show in the making

Posted by lp | May 31, 2012 5:30 PM

I would not hit it.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 5:37 PM

this makes me sad and sick.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 6:41 PM

Serious question: why didnt the kickstarted stop at $100,000? Why didnt she refund the remaining $900,000?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 7:00 PM

I'm all for people spending their own money however the hell they want to. It's still a less idiotic expenditure than most of what government provides. But it is funny to watch a greasy Occupy whore giving special benefits to the 1 percenters who kicked in extra.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 7:30 PM

I am also about people spending their hard earned money however they want to. However, people who sent money into this shit should get beat up with a pipe.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 8:00 PM

boring.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 9:57 PM

Much like Radiohead, she fucking sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 12:00 AM

Beetlejuice leotard for the win!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 8:27 AM

The Beetlejuice comment made me google beetlejuice costumes and I saw this which will give me nitemares for the next two nights....

8:00 - I'm generally non-violent, but I kinda think you're right here.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 2:34 PM

amanda palmer is not a scientologist.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 7:21 PM

There's certainly no reason why this would be any less worthy of your money than buying a CD. It just may look different, cause everything is in one big pile - including the money that goes into production - but saying this is "evil" is like saying anyone who ever bought any piece of art is to be hated because he or she should instead put every single cent into some charity.

But I have a feeling people making comments suggesting otherwise do themselves realize their arguments are bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 8:23 PM

7:00 Because that's not how Kickstarter works & she has plans with it

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 9:41 PM

whether you like Amanda Palmer or not, saying that people who donated deserve to be beaten up with pipe is ridiculous. you've never bought a cd before? then you've funded an artist. the only difference is you can see the full amount. and for the charities? I donate to charities too, so I can spend the remainder of my money on whatever I want. it's not your money, and you don't have to listen to her, so stop being so hateful and angry when it doesn't affect you.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2012 1:58 AM

Really boring...

Posted by Apartmani Becici | June 2, 2012 7:09 AM

Amanda Palmer is a Scientologist and this Kickstarter money is a lie. Palmer was thrown off her record label because she didn't sell so this is some lame attempt of Palmer's to either appear credible, or it's Scientology funding Neil Gaiman's Sea Org contract wife so he can keep singing twee little songs onstage. Palmer lacks any talent.

S.C.I.E.N.T.O.L.O.G.Y KILLS.

She's no worse than the over-hyped for years Red Hot Chili Peppers (Californication) being, face it, if they weren't famous you;d pay no attention whatsoever to that band.

But about Amanda Fucking Palmer as she likes to go by.

This is how a woman of marginal talent resorting to shock value nad calling it art actually makes her money on twitter.

Her self nude photo she tweeted. scroll for picture

"She's no worse than the over-hyped for years Red Hot Chili Peppers (Californication) being, face it, if they weren't famous you;d pay no attention whatsoever to that band."

This is a realyl dumb sentence. First of all, the red Hot Chili Pepers aren't using Kickstarter to fund their albums/lifestyle. Second, read the second part of your sentence again.

Amanda Palmer is a Scientologist and just married into one of the biggest Scientology families on the planet.

Here are her in laws (David and Sheila Gaiman's) recommendations for dealing with the press. How to lie, deflect, stall and bully people into printing what you want:
