Nina Kraviz

Siberian producer/singer Nina Kraviz is in North America this week and next surrounding her appearance at Movement Electronic Music Festival, which goes down in Detroit this weekend. While she's here, she'll play a NYC show on June 2 at a TBA location. The show is in celebration of Blkmarket's 6th anniversary and also includes Aril Brikha, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, and Talmur & Fahad. RSVP to blkjune2@gmail.com for more info and location, which will be announced the day of the event, and pick up tickets at Resident Advisor. The flier for this show is below. Nina will return to North America in the fall for more dates including Seattle's Decibel Festival with Actress, John Talabot, Maria Minerva, Matthew Dear, Dam-Funk, Julianna Barwick, Ariel Pink and more.

Nina released her self titled debut LP earlier this year via Rekids. It's a real moody, downtempo album that might sound a little better in your headphones on your walk home from the club than playing through the PA while you're there. The beats are well versed in deep house and minimal techno but with greater attention on the low frequencies of the UK bass scene than other recent deep house purveyors like Blondes and Teengirl Fantasy.

Though her production is impressive, the unquestionable standouts of the album are the tracks that prominently feature her voice. The reverb-washed vocals of album opener "Walking in the Night" show Nina sounding like a hushed Kate Bush. Whereas on tracks like "Choices" or "Love Or Go," she sings in a more chopped up fashion, emulating producers who rely solely on sampling the voices of others, in a manner we've seen thrive on everything from "Everything In Its Right Place" to "The Wilhelm Scream."

Nina released her second single from the album, "Aus," this week, which features three different remixes of the track in addition to the album version. Stream all four of those below, in addition to the album's first single, "Ghetto Kraviz," and two of its remixes. Nina also dropped an Essential Mix earlier this month. You can stream that below too.

Those streams, flier for the NYC show, and a list of all dates are below.

The 2012 version of Lana Del Rey

Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2012 4:27 PM

Well this is easily most attractive person pictured on BV today.

Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2012 4:29 PM

idk, that fat guy is pretty attractive.

Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2012 4:32 PM

God, who gives a fuck. When's the next sebadoh record coming out.

Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2012 5:03 PM

this is NOT even remotely nina kraviz's first NYC show, she was here like last year.

nina rules tho and i'm saddened that she's playing blkmarket. blkmarket is a fucking joke of an "underground show," $40 at the door + $5 PBRs hah NYC is fucked

Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2012 10:10 PM

B is for boring, B is for BV

Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2012 10:42 PM

album is one of the best full lengths of the year...one of the best house full lengths in ages.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 12:08 AM

Bet its her first joint

Posted by Sam | May 26, 2012 12:26 AM

Russian girls are always hot. Can anyone explain?

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 2:50 AM

@2:50 just go get one you don't need any explanation.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 2:58 AM

Yes, Russian girls can be very pretty. Anybody who has been to Russia, any town in Russia, knows this. But why do BV readers have to be such boors? Are all of you like 12 and have never seen a pretty girl before? My high school coach always said when you score, act like you've done it before. Same with girls. Try to be cool guys. It's better that way. Anybody can see this girl is beautiful, no reason for you to tell us.

Blkmarket are rip-off artists, as noted above. I mean, I can get into the warehouse-in-a-shitty-post-industrial-wasteland vibe as much as the next head. But I'm very, very reluctant pay $40 for the privilege.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 11:18 AM

Blkmarket parties are such weak comparisons to old raves when everything was free.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 12:32 PM

she can get it. twice.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 12:40 PM

i would take her out to a nice dinner with my parents.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 2:26 PM

^^^^^
LOL!

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 3:34 PM

comments on this board seem appropriate for the readership here. BV readers tend to have little or no knowledge when it come to house or techno. par for the course, pricks..

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 3:58 PM

Techno and house are vapid imbecile music.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 4:19 PM

I wish smoking wasn't so taboo. I miss the good ol days when smoking was cool and no big deal.

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 4:41 PM

2:26 I know that comment isn't finished... good one so far

Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2012 6:42 PM

Nina Kraviz: raus, not aus.

Yet another beautiful face who gets a pass to make lethally boring music because she's hot. Anyway, hasn't anyone seen "Birthday Girl" with Nicole Kidman as the crazy scammy mail-order bride? I wouldn't trust hot Russian women any further than I could hammer-throw them.

Posted by Crosseyed Sniper | May 26, 2012 7:43 PM

10:50 has no penis.

Posted by Anonymous | May 27, 2012 10:05 AM

The notion that 10:50 played a team sport in high school is hilarious.

Posted by Anonymous | May 27, 2012 10:51 AM

I wish I was a cigarette.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2012 10:20 AM

can she blow smoke rings out of her twat?

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2012 10:11 PM

The only twat that 10:11 has ever seen is his mom's when he was spat out of it

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2012 10:25 PM

that has to be one of the worst press photos...assuming that is what it is for...Ive ever seen.

smokes = pokes?? what ever. Still lame weak photo

Your blog looks nice, on the other hand it would be greater if you can use lighter colors as well as a professional design. This will ensure that a lot more readers come to check it out.Informative post by the way!
