BADBADNOTGOOD @ Brooklyn Bowl (5/4/2012) (via @hollaPino)
Badbadnotgood
Beasties

As I'm sure countless musicians who happened to have shows scheduled yesterday did from stage, Coldplay (at Hollywood Bowl and like they did at All Points West), BADBADNOTGOOD (at Brooklyn Bowl), and Bomb The Music Industry! (at the NYU Strawberry Festival) paid tribute to Adam Yauch with a Beastie Boys cover worked into the set (who else did?). Watch video of the three mentioned, below...

WTF was that last one?!?!?

It's the Beastie's classic tough guy

And then Coldplay donated all their instruments to the needy and never played another song ever again.

Coldplay can ruin anything, anything!!!!

Coldplay's "tribute" is the equivalent of kicking MCA's corpse in the balls. Nothing captures the spirit of that song *less* than a limp piano ballad. Shame on them.

Not a Coldplay fan, but I found their tribute quite touching.

1:09 who you calling tough guy, cupcake?

How did you miss the RHCP tribute? That's a meaningful one!

I cannot believe that there was no mention of MCA at the BAM last night! a so called brooklyn festival that doesn't remember a fallen beastie boy, unreal.

@2:01 -

Flea did the bass riff from "Funky Boss" (I think?) after their set opener, and to kick off their encore they did about a 90sec instrumental of "So Whatcha Want?". Throughout the night Flea and Anthony were expressing their emotions regarding MCA's passing, and in a really respectful and sincere manner.

I have to concur. I feel funny saying this, but I liked the Coldplay tribute.

"Not a Coldplay fan, but I found their tribute quite touching."

I agree. Playing something that is not a a note-for-note cover means that they put some thought into it and not just hacked together.

I would have preferred less obvious song choices, but still good.

Wow, Coldplay sure look different these days - which one is Chris Martin?

In Santa Cruz last night, Yo La Tengo did not play any Beastie Boys songs during their story teller set, but said while they never met Adam Yauch, they had mutual friends and that they always like him because they treated their (mutual) friends with respect. They then played a song for him (which they called "that country song").

I know that it will never happen, but could we please just move on from YLT already?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2012 2:57 PM

I gotta chime in with another thumbs up for the Coldplay tribute cover.

Fallon of course did a tribute last night. Black Star at Jazz Fest did a tribute. Coolest thing was the Mets last night used all Beasties music for their walkups.

I have a feeling that the tributes were BADBADNOTGOOD. Their hearts were in the right place though. : )

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2012 4:09 PM

I cannot stand, I mean, cannot stand Coldplay, but that MCA tribute was excellent, and clearly heartfelt.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2012 5:44 PM

my penis did a tribute

Posted by skeet skeet | May 5, 2012 6:50 PM

not a fan but good tribute.

MCA dies, and Chris Martin is still singing. How unfair is life?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2012 7:09 PM

You cannot ruin a song that already sucked in the first place.

Thank you for 20+ years of great work Adam, you will be missed bro. Cool tributes all around.

Now if Coldplay had cancelled their show and Goop and ceased all operations...... then you would have something!
