Friends at MHOW in 2011 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Friends

Brooklyn's Friends have been prepping their debut LP, Manifest, for a June 5 release via Fat Possum. The band are now streaming that album in full ahead of its release. The album was produced by the band and mixed by Paul Epworth, whose pop shine is definitely in tact, and the songs embody the sort of afro-beat influenced pop that's existed in NYC since Paul Simon and Talking Heads, and more recently Vampire Weekend. Check it out for yourself via 3voor12 below.

As mentioned, Friends will kick off a tour in support of the album next month, and that tour comes to NYC for a show at Bowery Ballroom on July 7. Tickets for that show are still available. Updated dates listed below...

PUHleze. The obvious reference point for Friends is The Kids of Widney High.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 4:51 PM

Actually no...it's a blatant attempt to plagiarize and then update ESG 4:51.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 5:20 PM

Thank you for that youtube clip @4:37pm that solidified that you can shit a gooey turd out and have it be on bk vegan

Posted by Really? | May 31, 2012 5:23 PM

Catchy pop with hot girls singing > bland indie rock with effeminate boys whining or tuneless metal with bearded idiots growling.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 5:47 PM

Do the blacks like Friends?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 6:27 PM

I love Friends! As long as I am off to one side, a section above the crowd. In a basketball arena.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 8:48 PM

The girls are attractive, and the songs are catchy. I see and hear nothing wrong with this band.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 8:54 PM

friends are clearly here to stay

hey loser bv comment fools... you're wrong, again, as always.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 9:38 PM

"friends are here to stay"

Right now this statement is funny. In 6 months it will be hilarious.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2012 9:56 PM

The Friends defenders crack me up. I mean, there is video of the band in this very thread. Clearly, they suck. This is first day stuff here...

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 12:35 AM

that video is unbelievable.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 1:33 AM

"That douche in the hat and the pink socks .... words escape me. He's a very special kind of retard."

truth. I mean, c'mon, wtf?

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 1:39 AM

animal collective is better.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 2:44 AM

you said that 6 months ago, loser

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 4:42 AM

I'll be there for you! When the rain starts to pour! Cause I'll be there for you too!

Posted by Rembrants | June 1, 2012 7:46 AM

Blatant favours or pay ol aaaahhh you decide why they're here... if it is not obvious to you. People who write about them are the problem that no one speaks about. People who defend them are their mates or band members. Why don't the girls just do porn and call it a day with music and save all our ears and intelligence. Kardashians of music is all this is.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 9:20 AM

^Not sure about pay ol aaaahhh, but certainly a well connected PR person. The porn suggestion is a good one if they want to be famous that badly. I mean, I don't see any musical talent there, raw or otherwise. And that fat bro on keyboards ix hilarious. He can't be serious right?

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 9:42 AM

Friends=Please autotune my vocals while i shake my ass. Nice ass though

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 9:54 AM

The funniest thing about Friends comment threads is that all the BV readers unanimously despise them and then some sad PR person has to write the same "Friends are here to stay" or "Haters are just jealous" over and over again. Face it, pal: you're in hostile territory and it's a losing battle.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 10:34 AM

^I think the dislike of Friends is the only thing BV agrees on.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 10:46 AM

I think its funny that if someone has something positive to say they must be working for the band. total hipster mentality

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2012 11:13 PM

Hipsters are cool ok.
