May Day

Over 135 cities are celebrating International Workers Day with a general strike, and not working, and playing music and stuff...

"While American corporate media has focused on yet another stale election between Wall Street-financed candidates, Occupy has been organizing something extraordinary: the first truly nationwide General Strike in U.S. history. Building on the international celebration of May Day, past General Strikes in U.S. cities like Seattle and Oakland, the recent May 1st Day Without An Immigrant demonstrations, the national general strikes in Spain this year, and the on-going student strike in Quebec, the Occupy Movement has called for A Day Without the 99% on May 1st, 2012. This in and of itself is a tremendous victory. For the first time, workers, students, immigrants, and the unemployed from 135 U.S. cities will stand together for economic justice."
In NYC that includes performances by MEN and Tom Morello, Dan Deacon, and more.

So...I was supposed to stay home today? Why didn't anyone tell me? Now I'm at work on this miserably rainy day when I could've stayed in bed and fought the man!

i think i just heard someone throw hummus at my office window at 200 west.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 10:19 AM

The only bummer I can see today is that the piss balloons will not have the same level of impact in the rain. Apart from that, the sweet effect of D-cell batteries accelerating from rooftops is agnostic of weather.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 10:29 AM

10:10 - OK, you start

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 10:30 AM

I should have known better than to click on a Brooklyn Leechgan story. Wow has this shit gone downhill. WTF. Way better
music blogs out there - this is like the rolling stone.

@10:08
don't be a hater. live and let live.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 10:31 AM

I've already had 2 meetings and another about to start. I don't always like the task I need to do at that moment for my job, but it's pretty killer having something to do that benefits society and gives me the means to enjoy things like good food, concerts, and buying gifts for others. We are made to work, it's part of who we are as people. In the words of Gibran "if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy"

If you don't work, you shouldn't eat. Hummus that is - no hummus for loafers!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 11:36 AM

Pretty quiet out there today. I forgot how much hippies hate rain(unless they are at a music festival and there is mud)

Nice try Occupy. Didn't work. Now go try and do something useful.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 11:53 AM

11:44 - it's not that hippies dislike rain, but it is very close to washing which is anathema to hippie ethos

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 11:54 AM

The fisrt thing that came to mind was Brad May's overtime goal with the Sabres back in '93.

MAY DAY!!! MAY DAY!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2012 1:03 PM

Y'all should have seen the look on the kid's face as he got doused with piss from a piss balloon! Shit was epic! He was all surprised, then the smell hit him and he was all mad and shit "Who did that?!? Who did that?!?" That was some vitamin and asparagus rich piss there. Totally going up on YouTube tonight.

Not even a battle of equals
And when we take back the White House in November, we can start to deal with the real problems that we all face.
We are not 99% / 1%. We are not "right" and "evil". We are the United States Of America. We are not ashamed to be the shining city on a hill. We will restore the glory, but first it's gonna be hard for a while. But we will all be equal, and we will all have a chance to excel.
My brothers, my sisters - join us, all of us together.
