LCD Soundsystem at their final MSG show (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
LCD Soundsystem

LCD Soundsystem's career-concluding documentary, Shut Up and Play the Hits, which debuted at Sundance earlier this year, will hit theaters for one night only on July 18. It will be in a number of US theaters that day including three in NYC: Brooklyn's BAMcinematek and reRun, and Manhattan's Landmark Sunshine. The full list of participating theaters is below, and if it doesn't come to your city, you can "tell Shut Up and Play the Hits where to come" via Eventful.

The film is being distributed by the late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch's Oscilloscope Laboratories. Oscilloscope teamed up with Creators Project to run a contest where one lucky winner will win a trip to NYC, two nights at Ace Hotel New York, two tickets to the NYC screening of the film, and a meet and greet with James Murphy. More details on that contest are HERE.

Eh... I have no interest if they're only gonna screen it a few times. That's annoying. Don't they want more people to see this movie?

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:05 PM

i was there. don't need to see it in a theater with a bunch of people munching on popcorn behind me.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:12 PM

oh god. here we go again --

we are happy to announce that at 10.00am on wednesday 30th may there will be a sale of a limited amount of general admission tickets at the mercury lounge box office 217 e. houston, new york, ny 10022. these tickets will not carry a fandango charge. strictly limited to two per person. first come first served!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:12 PM

I'll always have a bad taste in my mouth about that ticket debacle. Murphy was somewhat disingenuous in his reaction, not aknowledging the corruption rampant in ticket distribution withholding via ticketmaster, MSG, Bowery presents, and possibly even himself. It also seemed the instant sellout may have been a cynical way to hype 5 nights at t5.

So... Great albums but fuck him and fuck this movie.

"What NYC venue has the best sound?"

Terminal 5.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:16 PM

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:24 PM

I'm sure if you wait a couple of months it will be on netflix streaming with all the other shitty movies they offer.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:30 PM

Will this come out on DVD?

I'd prefer not to get bedbugs.

Posted by Venkman | May 29, 2012 2:31 PM

ReRun is tiny. It's a great space, but the wrong venue for this. Maybe seats 50?

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:34 PM

I thought the film was to be titled "Shut Up and Eat the Hummus."

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:41 PM

Obviously the best place to see this is BAM. Best cinemas, plus it's in Brooklyn.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 2:43 PM

omg thank you james --

"we've moved some staging stuff and removed some big cameras, etc...

If any movie deserves rampant torrenting to suck away from its talents fees it's this one.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 5:55 PM

Really? I mean.........REALLY?

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 7:18 PM

Eat 7 tubs of popcorn, that's what James would do.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 7:38 PM

^ LMAO

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 7:53 PM

The most dangerous place in the United States? Between James Murphy and a bag of Cheetos.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 8:01 PM

I'm surprised Nitehawk didnt get a screening of this.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 8:11 PM

I'm glad it's not in 3D... Could you imagine the horror of that stomach bouncing in front of you!

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2012 10:25 PM

I want D to be my date. YTI.NASNIL is alive.

Posted by Anonymous | May 30, 2012 3:54 AM

Meanwhile, tickets go on sale today and neither manhattan theater is selling tickets. Sorry, but James deserves to have this pirated.

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2012 10:33 AM

"I'll always have a bad taste in my mouth about that ticket debacle."
