M83

Somewhere in the midst of bouncing fans, the glow of raised cellphones, men dressed in monster costumes and the rumors of a Zola Jesus appearance (she was in town and guests on their album), M83 played a show drenched in spectacular neon at Terminal 5 last night (5/11). No Zola Jesus, but plenty of synth bombast. Pictures from the show are in this post.

Dipping into their recent Hurry Up, We're Dreaming and including stops along the way for cuts from Saturdays = Youth, M83's set was one of THREE scheduled in NYC in the next few months, including a stop at a sold-out Summerstage in August and another at Hammerstein Ballroom in October. The band did Chicago and Coachella recently (week 1 and week 2 in pics) and will fill in the holes in between NYC stops with other US dates and festival stops like Lollapalooza and Bumbershoot.

Swedish shoegazers I Break Horses opened the evening with quiet, lilting melodies and if you missed them, they too will return to NYC very soon: hit Mercury Lounge on May 30th.

More pictures and M83's setlist below...

Terminal 5 is not only a terrible venue, but also draws a terrible crowd. The noise from people talking throughout the show was louder than the music.

I thank god that I saw these guys at Music Hall back in the fall and didn't have to suffer with the rest of the cattle at T5. M83 are incredible but that crowd of D-bags and Johnny-come-latelys is too much.

I hate shows in NYC. Just STFU when bands are playing.

No respect at all towards the band or the audience who's trying to enjoy the show. We don't care what you bought with your daddy's CC.

shoot in RAW at least

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 1:40 PM

They sounded awesome; just expected a little bit longer of a set list, given the amount of material he has.

Also, a big F-U to the D-bag who decided to record the show with his iPad right in front of us. Good job, genius! Way to be considerate of those around you. Reason #654 why T-5 sucks.

what was this 50 min filler song btw i break horses and m83, any idea?

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 1:53 PM

Lots of d bags at the Webster Hall show a few months ago too. Less area to hide there though.

C'mon son, build up a nigga's hope on modat open back dress joint, and then no modat? Fucked up, son!

probably best T5 show I've ever seen. the sound there is really boomy and not suitable for a lot of bands but for m83 it worked really well

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 2:37 PM

Show was amazing regardless. Amazing

Good set list by M83. I wish they would have played stuff off Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghosts. That is one of my favorite albums by them. Also please explain. How do you Break Horses?

Was this the shooting for one of those new shitty shows for 21 year old inbred valley girl burg kids like skins?

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 5:31 PM

Anyone know where to get higher quality versions of these pictures? I'm in one of the crowd pictures, but you can barely make it out because the picture quality is so low.

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 5:59 PM

Cum and crap on her back.

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 6:36 PM

GLAD THAT GIRL WEARS THE SAME THING EVERY SHOW.

Keep helpin your band!

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 6:37 PM

Guys...have you ever seen a woman before? Nothing against M83 lady but she's not that hot.

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 7:15 PM

Agreed, she's not hot but that's not the point. The point here is to drop and load.

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2012 7:22 PM

yo are you kidding right now...all you haters hating on t5 (which btdubz is the BEST venue in nyc) need to stfu. the sound system is of top quality. the stage is huge. there are so many different places to get a good view at all different times during the show. and if you want a break you can go on the roof. i think my only complaint is the higher drink prices, but at least the bartenders are chill. hey, if you don't want to deal with douchebags, feel free to stay the fuck home- there will definitely be less douchebags there since you'll be at home, and we'll have fun at t5.

Posted by frustrated with haters | May 12, 2012 12:55 AM

^Says the loser bro from Jersey who would not know a good sounding venue to save his life. Shut the fuck up you moron.

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2012 11:17 PM

@2:33 Dude holding up the beer in the third row looks like a zombie hipster version of Michael Shannon.
