Saint Vitus

Arguably the centerpiece of the entire Maryland Deathfest lineup was the return of the UK doom juggernaut Electric Wizard (pictures HERE), so suffice it to say that a large portion of the Sunday (on 5/28) roster leaned in that direction. Doom legends Saint Vitus headlined the second stage that night, while the bluesy Church of Misery, glacially-paced Cough, zen-like Yob and eclectic Rwake all represented for the genre.
The rest of the day fell all over the map, from speedy straight-edge to grind, black metal to crust, and death metal of the technical and primitive sorts. The odd-experimentalism of Bethlehem caught my ear the most, but sets from the always entertaining Suffocation, Disma, Pentagram (black/thrash from Chile), Ulcerate, Mortuary Drape and Agents of Abhorrence were similarly fun. I unfortunately arrived too late to catch Backslider or Coke Bust. Demonical's old school Swedish death metal sounded excellent but didn't put on much of a live show and my flirtation with Morgoth was interrupted in favor of Rwake's full set.
More pictures from the final day at Maryland Deathfest is below. If you missed it, check out pictures from day 1 HERE (and Rorschach HERE), day 2 HERE and day 3 HERE.

Bass player from Church of Misery's bass is way too low to actually play it. Also that first picture of the singer of Mortuary Drape looks like he is saying "I was all out of white corpse paint so I had to use light green. So sue me!"

If you'd seen church of misery you would know how well he was able to play.

"Bass player from Church of Misery's bass is way too low to actually play it." - You should have told him that BEFORE he rocked the crowd with some of the best best live bass playing I've ever heard. I'm sure he would have appreciated your amazing tips.

I watched the footage. The band sounds good, for the style. Not arguing that. Bass players playing is fine to. Totally disagree with "So of the best live bass playing i've seen??!!!" Not really he is strumming with a pick waaaaaay up on the neck!!! Not good technic! Can you imagine strumming a guitar way up on the neck like that?? Not good!

How do you know that this is not "some of the best live bass playing [commenter] has ever seen"? The truth or falsehood of that statement rests entirely what *other* bass players (s)he has seen play live, and is really just a matter of opinion when using the vague term "best".
As for technique - the proper technique is the one which gives the player the sound they are looking for and enables them to accomplish their goals. That dirty strumming-over-the-fingerboard tone is exactly what the bass player is trying to achieve. Church of Misery has been playing this style of music for close to two decades and you may rest assured that the bass player has settled on this form after much practice, experimentation and consideration of various alternatives.
