Dean Wareham at Maxwell's in 2011 (more by Chris Gersbeck)
Dean Wareham

As mentioned, Dean Wareham is touring this summer and coming to NYC for a 'Galaxie 500 show' at Le Poisson Rouge on July 20. Since posting that show, LPR's website has noted that it will be his final 'Galaxie 500 show' in NYC. Tickets for that show are still available.

Dean and Britta also have another NYC area show the day after the LPR show, which happens in Wantagh, NY (near Jones Beach) at Mulcahy's Pub on July 21 with The War On Drugs. it's a benefit show billed as the "SHINE A LIGHT MUSIC FESTIVAL," in support of the Tommy Brull Foundation. Deer Tick played a similar show at the venue last summer, and like that show, this one will also be supported by Wormburner. Tickets for the Mulcahy's Pub show are on sale now.

You can also catch The War On Drugs play a free show in NYC next month when they join Guided by Voices, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Cloud Nothings for a free Central Park Summerstage show on July 7 as part of CBGB Festival. They also play the XPoNential Music Festival in Camden, NJ.

The other Dean Plays Galaxie 500 shows have been excellent, I have to say.

Dean & Britta and the War on Drugs in what's essentially a Long Island sports bar? Weird.

Posted by Anonymous | June 28, 2012 12:20 PM

just checked out that bar's website -- no camo attire. looks like i'm out.

superrrrr weird that both bands are playing there. yikes.

There is a sports bar in the front, but for the shows they open up a concert room in the back which has huge stage and an excellent sound system. Think of it like a bigger and wider Mercury Lounge, if the bar in front was a sports bar during the day and on off-show days.

The venue is also no where near Jones Beach, which is five miles south. Mulcahy's is literally right next to the Wantagh LIRR station.

I covered the Deer Tick show there last year, and its a great time and a very worthy cause. I'm sure it will be great again this year.

Cool beans, right in my neck of the woods...too bad I already have plans that day :(

Last years deer tick show was great. The tick played for close to 3 hours and got real loose. The venue is literally right below the train station in wantagh. Train commute was easy. Stage was huge sound was great.

I just went on TicketFly and it says that there will be a special guest with Dean and Britta. Feels like a little Luna reunion? I'm definitely going to check this out. Looks like trains run from Penn Station regularly.

So psyched to see The War on Drugs. It's great that good music is coming to LI.

Mulcahys surprisingly has an awesome sound system! We went to the deer tick show there last year! It was amazing! They played forever and it soundEd awesome. Tommy Brull foundation is a grassroots non for profit. Please support them. Good people doing good things ! Great live music on LI. A weekend none the less! Take the Lirr.

8:24 - I don't know about a Luna reunion. They did play Moon Palace couple of weeks ago in McCarren park but when they tried to get Sean to come onstage, he wouldn't do it.

Dean &britta sounded great at McCarren park a few weeks ago. Loved the version of ceremony they do. They were hanging with Sean after.

Very much looking forward to the shine a light... Very interesting double bill..so awesome that the bands are open minded enough to move slightly out of the NY/Bklyn area for a show. Must be a good cause they are supporting. Should be an awesome show. I heard a tape of the the deer Tick show from last year. Sounded so relaxed and loose with great sound quality . I am psyched to hear some live music in this venue.

Hey everyone thanks for the mostly kind comments. We put this show together in memory of my brother, Tommy, who was a big music fan. His favorite band was Luna. Dean and Britta were kind enough to agree to play. the war on drugs are stoked to play as well. A show On long island both separates us from just another show in NYC and allows the bands to relax and let loose. Any one who was at last years show can attest to that. Please come out and support raising money for camp anchor ( a summer camp for physical, mental, and emotionally challenged children) Mulcahy's is literally located at the base of the wantagh LIRR station.
Ps you will not be disappointed with the special guest. Thank you martin

hey btw. if you are a luna fan i think you should really come to this show. the special guest will put a smile on your face.
