Joey Bada$$ released '1999,' playing SOB's on Thursday

Joey Badass

17 year old Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ wasn’t even born yet when Nas’ Illmatic and Biggie’s Ready to Die were released, but it’s quite clear from his new mixtape, 1999, that records like these are the ones he’s been listening to. He’s got golden age beats on the album from J Dilla, MF DOOM, Lord Finesse, and Statik Selektah, in addition to in-house beats from his Progressive Era crew (Pro Era for short) that sound about as classic as the borrowed ones. You can stream the entire mixtape and download it for free below.

Joey and his Pro Era comrades Capital STEEZ, Chuck Strangers, CJ Fly, T’nah Apex, and Kirk Knight will be playing a local show in NYC on Thursday (6/28) at SOB’s. TIckets for that show are on sale now. The flier for this show is below.
