Nicki MInaj

As mentioned, Nicki MInaj cancelled her Hot 97 Summer Jam performance over the weekend after being dissed by station DJ Peter Rosenberg. On Monday (6/4), she called into the station to explain her decision and ended up in long argument with Funkmaster Flex. You can listen to that interview/argument HERE.

As NY Times points out, during the interview, Nicki "apologized to her fans and promised to do a free show in the New York area this summer to make up for canceling." Keep an eye out for that show to be announced.

The NY TImes article dove more into the ongoing Young Money vs Hot 97 feud. Here's some choice excerpts:

Ms. Minaj said it was bad form for Mr. Rosenberg to criticize her just before a show when she was giving her time to benefit the radio station. She also suggested that Mr. Rosenberg had singled her out because she is a woman.

...

Mr. Rosenberg, meanwhile, did not soften his stand during his appearances on the station on Monday night and Tuesday morning. "There is a get me to apologize movement, to which I can say, I'm absolutely not apologizing, because I didn't do anything wrong," he said on Monday evening. "I'm not going to change my stand because I'm at Summer Jam. I've been saying it for six months."

...

"That's a hip-hop show," [program director Ebro Darden] said of the Summer Jam. "When artists want to go out and make songs for other formats, that's their prerogative, but that doesn't mean our hosts have to like it. It was not a direct shot at her, at her personality, at her as a woman -- there was no sexual reference, there was no disrespect."

"It's a real hip-hop stage, and in real hip-hop, things get said," Mr. Darden added.

The video for "Starships" (aka the song Peter Rosenberg called her out for) is below...

YTINASN.IL is laughing at this nonsense.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 2:55 PM

you know both parties are loving this manufactured outrage. as if nicki minaj thinks she's still underground, or ever had any interest in staying there!

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 2:55 PM

YTINA.SNIL does not approve of this dumb broad.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:04 PM

I thought this was a YTIN.ASNIL blog. Why is this Nicki Minaj crap being posted here?

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:04 PM

good for hot 97 for keeping it real, son

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:08 PM

wow. i'm not really familiar with her music, so i just watched the video. couple of observations:

1. enormous breasts. wow.
2. terrible music. why would hot 97 be adding this to a hip hop music festival bill in the first place? this shit is like david guetta or aviici, club anthem party bullshit.
3. why is this getting covered on bv?

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:14 PM

Aseop Rock's set was worth all the whoo-ha

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:20 PM

love the body, hate the music

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:20 PM

Seriously, why are you writing about this? Trolling for more hits? Selling your soul by shilling out for the record labels and promoters by moving their tickets for them isn't enough?

Posted by outraged, unpaid, former BV contributor | June 7, 2012 3:33 PM

hi, what's YTIN.ASNIL, for those of us not from this world?

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:35 PM

animal collective is better

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:39 PM

YTINA.SNIL is higher than a motherfucker

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:52 PM

If the festival and it's employees don't like her, why book her as a headliner? That's insane. No, you don't insult the headliner of the festival you are throwing from the stage before she goes on. They really don't understand they did something wrong?

Maybe next year they will fix this by booking a headliner they don't plan to insult on stage before hand?

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 3:56 PM

Not as luscious as KBK's

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 4:07 PM

@333 it was a huge controversy in the music industry - BV always covers things like that, whether they pertain to indy music or not. Also it was an NYC-area event, and Summer Jam had a lot of BV-relevant performers (kendrick lamar, a$ap, azealia, schoolboy q, etc.). relax bud.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 4:10 PM

i agree with 3:56. the hot 97 team were not wrong that it's whack as hell and an embarrassment musically, but to hire her as the headliner of their big summer party and then diss her like that is just wrong. very unprofessional and juvenile, but i guess that's to be expected with those clowns. god forbid you apologize or admit you fucked up, cuz it's all about saving face when it comes to keeping your cred, right? bunch of clown shit. she's right to be pissed, that was serious bush league nonsense.

also, great tits.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 4:15 PM

This is why news outlets of any stripe--with any shred of journalistic activity attached--shouldn't throw or sponsor shows. Or actually only one of a few reasons.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 4:33 PM

4:15 - Agreed. It's like Hot 97 set her up. It's great to go back to "keeping it real" to keep your street cred amongst your listeners, but then don't hire a big mainstream artist to be the headliner and then make her look like a tool.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 5:09 PM

BV likes to side with white apologists

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 5:18 PM

everyone was at fault, just glad i wasn't there.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 5:29 PM

Funkmaster Flex comes off as an idiot in that radio debate. At least for the half hour I made it through. If the whole deal is that "shit gets said in real hip hop son", then live with the consequences. Flex's whole "I get it Nicki, maybe possibly this wasn't the best possible place to have said what he said" is laughable. It was the WORST possible place to say that shit.

I hope Frohawk makes the headlines.

Everyone jizzing themselves over her tits: They, along with her ass, are completely fake. Pretty pathetic when a black girl has to surgically augment her ass to make it big. This dope is fake in every way.

Rosenberg wants to act underground because he plays Action Bronson at 1 am on Sunday nights, but he really couldnt have picked a worse place to make a stand. Save it for the radio show. Hot 97 hasnt been respectable in a decade.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2012 10:11 PM

right you are 4:07. KBK has such a sweet set of perfect pale tits. wish she'd take them out already, cuz she knows thats all anyone cares about with her.

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2012 2:16 AM

At first I thought Nicki's claim that she's singled out because she's a woman was unfounded, but it actually is somewhat of a valid point. If CHRIS BROWN were the headliner of Summer Jam, would Rosenberg have the balls to diss his music (which is equally as wack)?

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2012 8:47 AM

And by the way, Chris Brown was at Summer Jam last year.. No one dissed his music.

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2012 9:01 AM

I remember when Hot 97 used to be dope, and relevant.

That was a LONG time ago.

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2012 1:40 PM

You can't be everything to everyone. This applies both to Nicki and to Hot 97.
