Walter of Quicksand at Union Pool (more by Redboy)
Walter Schreifels

According to trusted sources, NYC post-hardcore greats Quicksand will return to NYC to play a "free or cheap" show at the end of this summer and will NOT play the discussed Revelation Anniversary shows in NYC as previously speculated and rumored (though those shows are happening with other bands). The yet-to-be-announced NYC date will take place in the days leading up to their already confirmed appearance at FYF in Los Angeles. The band feels the need to make their return in their hometown before making the trek to LA, to ensure that they can "give back" to the city they call home.

It's probably worth noting that FYF, who are hosting Quicksand in LA, are also the presenters of the House of Vans shows in NYC, and that House of Vans still has four TBA lineups to announce (nothing is confirmed at the moment though). (The first House of Vans 2012 show happens this week with the Rapture).

Quicksand, which contains all original members (Walter Schreifels, Tom Capone, Alan Cage and Sergio Vega) has changed their band status from inactive to active after they made their return at Revelation Records' 25th anniversary spectacular on the West Coast. So far no additional plans are known, but reportedly the show went well enough that the band is considering additional dates through the end of 2012, schedule permitting.

More on this story as it develops, but I've already blocked off the month of August as "busy."

Reminder, Sergio of Quicksand is currently serving as bassist for Deftones, who'll tour this summer and play the NYC area twice.

Excited about a possible show, but please please please not a free show. Too many scenesters show up. Let the brooklyn zombies listen to Passion Pit and leave the good bands to use old folk.

Quicksand is playing House Of Vans in Brooklyn on Saturday, August 25, 2012 for these five reasons:

- No House Of Vans show scheduled for 8/25.

- Last Saturday in August.

- Week before FYF Fest.

- Quicksand could rehearse in New York 8/? to ? for the 8/25 show then 8/27, 28, and 29 for FYF Fest after taking a breather 8/26 and before flying to LA 8/30 (they rest/settle in 8/31 then play 9/1.)

As far as this show being free, it should simply be first come, first served and cap the number of admissions, no RSVP shit. Too many no-shows with RSVP which is rendered meaningless if you RSVP but don't show up at a certain time. It'd be a mob scene first come first served or RSVP. I think demand would exceed House Of Vans capacity, thus Quicksand could either play a second set later (first set 8-9pm, second 10-11pm) or the next night. Or they could do two free shows 8/24-25 if they'd rather play Friday than Sunday.

Correction: FOUR reasons why Quicksand will play NYC 8/25/12.

A fifth reason why I think they'll play that date is if they play sooner they have to spread out their rehearsals with lag time. I think they'd want to rehearse for 8/25 then 9/1, not rehearse for an 8/18 show then take off before rehearsing for 9/1.

'Very cool of them to play a free show in their hometown.

"- Last Saturday in August."

Why would that be a reason?

"then play 9/1"

FYF is two days. How do you know which day Quicksand is playing?

They fucking finally figured out their from NYC not Cali!

Are you two kids looking forward to getting your little asses kicked (literally) at the show?

2:22pm

They could play 9/1 or 9/2? Happy you anal retentive fuck?

8/25 is a reason because it's the week before FYF Fest. It's also the last week House Of Vans would have a House Party show since they are doing their House Parties in July and August only, not beyond that (as far as the official announcement they made for the shows shows.)

Logistically, 8/25 makes the most sense. It's a show in NYC Quicksand's hometown before Cali and a Saturday the day most people don't have work. No school in/around NYC and most East Coast states yet. Quicksand rehearses for a 8/25 show in NYC then continues to rehearse in NY for their FYF set 9/1 or 2. Tom and Sergio could fly from Cali where they live (Walter and Alan live in NYC) to NYC 8/? then be there until whenever they fly back to Cali for FYF. Also, Deftones may be touring after their NYC area shows 8/4-5, so Quicksand wouldn't practice or play during that tour or for as long as Sergio would need to rest from it when it's over.

@12:59 You didn't hear shit! You are insane. They could fill a venue 10 times larger than Mercury Lounge. More like Terminal 5 if anything.

"Quicksand reunion at the Mercury Lounge " from the fourth paragraph of this post: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/06/uk_comedian_sim.html

I read it very carefully. I do not make errors. No barriers. 99cents a ticket. Done. Thanks Quicksand. You are the best. I will enjoy said show that is definitely happening at Mercury Lounge.
