Radiohead's stage @ Prudential Center (more by Amanda Hatfield)
RadioheaD

Radiohead says:

Hello everyone,

As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three other crew members. The collapse also destroyed the light show - this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace.

Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with & consequently we have to try and reschedule the following shows:

June
30 Roma Hippodrome Capanelle

July
1 Firenze Parco delle Cascine
3 Bologna Arena Parco Nord
4 Codroipo Villa Manin
6 Berlin Wuhlheide
7 Berlin Wuhlhedie
9 St Triphon Carriere des Andonces

We aim to announce the new dates for these shows on Wednesday 27th of June and will also supply information on how to obtain refunds on tickets if you cannot come to the show on the new date.

We will start playing live again at Les Arenes Nimes, Bilbao BBK festival and Lisbon Optimus Alive festival.

We will make every effort to offer the fans the very best show possible under the circumstances - thanks for your understanding and support.
Stay tuned for more info.

Very sad for the death and injury to the working people, but destruction of equipment? couldn't have happened to a "better" bunch of guys.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 5:49 PM

They couldn't have just said they were canceling shows out of respect to the hurt or killed crew members? Bringing up the equipment seems pretty trivial.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 5:50 PM

Don't get the "better group of guys" comment - you a Matt & Kim fan?

We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott's family and all those close to him.

they posted this right after it happened

this current post is just an update for whats going on with the tour

Just another reason the iPods are a better band -- they don't need a light show with all the diversity from track to track.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 6:16 PM

"also, we need some time to learn Idioteque."

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 6:38 PM

Laughing at 6:16 but not really the appropriate place to post that.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 6:54 PM

to 5:49 and 5:50 -

A drum tech died. Not a band member.

A tragedy, no doubt, and he was a lovely guy Im sure.

But cmon! Even if they each loved him like a brother, he is replaceable, and no band would cite "grief" as a reason to cancel 7 dates occurring 2-3 weeks later, where 10-20 Thousand fans at each stop have paid nearly $100 to see a band who who havent toured in 4 years.

Have you ever heard of "the show must go on"?

People return to work in 2 weeks or less when their wife, parents, or children die, you sap.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 6:55 PM

A heartless way of doing this would have been for Mr. Yorke to record a video where he screams ONE MONKEY DON'T STOP THE SHOW for 10 minutes then shatter a jar of almond stuffed olives into a fish tank.

God rest his soul, that drum tech.

The ipod guy keeps appearing then later he write about how funny the ipod guy is...talk to yoursef much?

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 7:32 PM

aw man too bad i'm missing all of those italy shows

thanks brooklynvegan

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 9:47 PM

iPod guy - do your thing. YTINA SNI.L approved.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 9:54 PM

I was going to type the same thing7.32. Everytime ipod guy copies his post from thread to thread, he immediately gets a compliment on how funny he was. both are obviously same person.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 10:07 PM

if they were all really dealing with the grief and shock they would break up the band and never perform again

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 11:07 PM

What a bunch of elitist jerkwads. They care more about some music gear than a man's life. Despicable.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 11:25 PM

What does the iPod guy usually post about? I thought this one was funny . . . is it usually stupid like the jeremy lin stuff?

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 11:38 PM

Will Daft Punk still be opening when they reschedule?

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2012 11:40 PM

I am the original iPods poster. The original post was sorta funny, but that's it. The guy that keeps reposting it everywhere is not me. He is clearly a jealous unfunny comedian, and may very well be the same person as the Lin guy since that is also unoriginal and unfunny as well.

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 5:35 AM

i love Radiohead!

Posted by Acompanhantes | June 22, 2012 6:24 AM

summa you people really need to learn how to read better. either that or you are pretty untalented trolls. either way, you should save yourself the embarrassment and not post next time.

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 8:04 AM

Thanks 535am!

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 8:20 AM

OMG really?

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 8:46 AM

Why are people freaking about that IPods joke? It was pretty funny, but not hysterical. Apparently it is making a lot of people laugh what is the big deal if someone posted it twice.

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 8:49 AM

^It is make one person laugh in multiple threads (Same person in each thread)...enough with the repeat BS...lin, hummus, ipods come on people!

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 9:00 AM

If I am a miserable little unfunny comedian, and I see people responding to a joke that I didn't create, I will do whatever I can to discredit that joke so that if it doesn't come from me I will damn well make sure that people get sick of it and stop paying attention to it. Maybe I will serial post the joke anonymously so that it becomes annoying. Maybe I will insert my own prejudices into it too, just because I need need need that attention. Anyway, I've got more work to do now ....

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 9:47 AM

"Even if they each loved him like a brother, he is replaceable"

umm what?

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 9:48 AM

My brother is not replaceable and I love him like a drum tech.

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 10:22 AM

You don't need to listen to anybody on this comments section except 11:25 and I. Thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 10:32 AM

I thought the iPods joke was funny. Sue me. Don't hate on someone just because you have a different sense of humor!

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 11:01 AM

Did anyone else notice that Marc Maron stopped posting the Jeremy LIn stuff after he was called out in the Waignwright post?

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 11:02 AM

I didn't know the ipod guy was a serial poster but, just seeing the joke once, I did laugh.

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 11:13 AM

^The joke wouldn't make any sense unless you saw it in the Walkmen thread so you knew about this!

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 11:30 AM

11:13 BUS-TED!

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 11:51 AM

WELL ANY WAY I guess this means some of johnnys vintage amps were destroyed or something.. donno what their back line really consists of, i just saw them in nj and it was such a great show, i can see how that light show would be easily completely destroyed.. moving panels and all... their ipods and kaossilators are replaceable, so maybe some guitars and vintage drum shit or whatever ... tragedy indeed, i thnk they properly displayed condolences, but giving fans an update on what else happened during the collapse and the need to post-pone the shows is Valid!

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 12:09 PM

9:48 -

What I meant was he could be the most beautiful guy in the world, but as far as Radiohead's upcoming shows with millions of dollars at stake go, he's a drum tech, and therefore, replaceable.

Its ridiculous that people think any band as big as radiohead would cancel a tour or any significant portion of it because a drum tech died.

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 12:54 PM

12:54 - typical usa shit from your punk ass. fuck 16 year old brats and rich people's bleepybloop machines, a human being died. fuck money. fuck tours. people are much more important. shame that radiohead dont feel the same way.

Posted by Anonymous | June 22, 2012 8:44 PM

I did laugh at the Ipod comment is that bad.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2012 3:28 AM

"rich people's bleepybloop machines" LOLWOT?

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2012 8:35 AM

with the kind of budget they have, radiohead can get the whole backline replaced in a week. come on - it's not that hard to do through shops, ebay, private dealers, even loaning stuff from studios. as for lights, just forget about 'em. sad news that a man died and others were injured, but...

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2012 1:36 PM

Any Radiohead show is guaranteed to have a BDF off the charts

BDF = band douche factor

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2012 7:17 PM

okay, did radiohead kill the drum tech? it was the roof of the venue that collapsed, not their stage set. are they not allowed to be upset about thousands of dollars of equitment being destroyed? should they screw over tens-of-thousands of fans and other venues because of one tragedy they had virtually nothing to do with?

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2012 9:09 PM

^nah, I was just saying that tragedy or no tragedy Radiohead are still a band of self important bloated douches, that's all. Obviously they didn't kill the drum tech. directly.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2012 9:16 PM

lol. they're really not, have you ever read an interview with them? its the same shit fugazi gets, just because they're political and try to avoid being overly commercial. thom actually has a great sense of humor:
