The Melvins with Trevor Dunn at Webster Hall in 2009 (more by Ryan Muir)
The Melvins

The Melvins Lite is not intended as a slander on the combined weight of the current lineup but knowing the deviant sense of humor of the crew, I guess it could be. The "Lite" version sheds the Big Business side of the band (Jared and Coady) in favor of bassist Trevor Dunn, and its this version that will welcome their new LP Freak Puke tomorrow via Ipecac. Stream it in full at AOL. Buzzo commented on the lineup difference:

"The Melvins have a long history of mixing up our line-ups and I think that's what has kept us relevant for so long. Consider the Freak Puke record the fifth side of the four-sided Melvins triangle."

Melvins Lite will also have a tour coming up with shows in Canada and the West Coast in July, as well as what looks like a second leg of dates in September and October. That second leg hasn't been fully revealed yet, but a few shows have been announced including a NYC show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 4th. Tickets for that show go sale on Friday (6/8) at noon.

In addition to Freak Puke and the previously mentioned The Bulls & The Bees, the band recently released a split seven-inch picture disc with the great Hammerhead.

Freak Puke on Ipecac.
Irony works best when it's not so blatant.

The Melvins have been putting records out on Ipecac (Mike Patton's label) since 1999. I think this is the first time anyone has put a blatant vomit reference into their album title.

The album is pretty shitty. Experimental like The Crybaby but without the hooks, and Fantomas but without the heaviness. Sounds like something better suited to watch at The Stone. But I'll still go to the show.

Yeah, love that they are doing this...but Freak Puke is kinda boring. The EP they just put out for free on Scion A/V is awesome though

2:21: Agreed 100%. The Bride Screamed Murder was not too bad, but aside from that there hasn't been any REAL quality material from the Mevins in about a decade.

The free EP is boring too.

all of you assholes are boring. stay away from the band...

Agree with 2:21 but the Melvins always crush live even if you don't care about the new material.

Exactly 3:33

What 3:33 said.

Hopefully this album weeds out most of you Johnny-come-lately Melvins fans who go apeshit when they hear Civilized Worm but stand there like a confused statue when they play Roman Bird Dog. Yeah, this album totally sucks, now move on to another band to follow around for a couple years until they bore you and leave the rest of us to our enjoy the "boring" Melvins.

12:01 that happens all the time with most of the bands, kinda natural thing to me.
