Cross-section rendering of what ABC No Rio's new space will look like
ABC No Rio

ABC No Rio has been slowly moving toward replacing it's current building with a new one, and now comes word that the collective will go green as revealed in recent renderings (like the one above). A little more info from the folks behind it:

The existing building is distressed and in disrepair. In 2007, our architect and engineer determined that existing conditions would make responsible repair and renovation difficult, and not significantly less costly than new construction. Through new construction we will build dramatically improved facilities for our cultural, community and educational activities. We will:

-double the size of our gallery and performance space
-provide more efficient insulation and soundproofing
-create spaces specifically designed for our programs and events
-install an elevator and make the building wheelchair accessible
-install new energy- and water-efficient building-wide systems
-increase our capacity for alternative energy use

The space is currently bidding out construction with architect Paul Castrucci publicly revealing his proposal for the space.

There are a few interesting shows coming up on the calendar for the space, including July 28th with California X (who recently played Tommy's Tavern) with Cop Hugger, Early Flight Home; and Punch with Living Eyes, Born Wrong and Goosebumps on August 4th.

wow i guess the squatters saved all that change they were begging for .. i remember the old space that would fill up with about 6 inches of water when it rained and there was no running water and you peed into some bucket plastic bag contraption ..

More importantly, what does D think of this?

I realize you're being facetious, but as someone who regularly reads the posts here but rarely posts I actually feel bad for the guy. I mean, D is such a monumental imbecil he actually thinks people want to hear his thoughts... Is he in any way disabled?

^he is a 40 year old hardcore kid, do you really have to ask?

I actually do find D's posts entertaining for the most part. Certainly a breath of fresh air from the usual stuff on here, especially the recent unfortunate trend of racist drivel. Now would I trade places with D...probably not. But at least the guy's got passion for something.

The people who comment here are typically angry, emotionally small, hatful people. This site would be much groovier without the posting boards but with an actual web forum where people can argue pointlessly, to their hearts' content.

As someone from another country who has a shit-ton of respect for musical institutions wherever they may be, I think that this is fantastic news.
