ATP

That didn't take long. Last night we posted it as a rumor. Today it is confirmed (removal of Louis CK included):

ATP Concerts today announce the relocation of this September's New Jersey based I'll Be Your Mirror festival event to Pier 36 in Manhattan, New York.

Pier 36 was the intended home for I'll Be Your Mirror beginning in 2013 - but due to unavoidable logistical concerns (along with a lack of available fan accommodations in Asbury Park), ATP has decided to move there for this year's event.

New additions to the festival today include: Philip Glass & Tyondai Braxton, Janeane Garofalo, Lightning Bolt, Lee Ranaldo, Chavez, Kurt Braunohler, Afterhours, Joseph Arthur, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The Album Leaf, The Psychic Paramount, Braids, Tall Firs, Blanck Mass, Endless Boogie, Demdike Stare and DJ Jonathan Toubin with more to be added to all three days - see below for more info on the new additions...

Some artists who are unable to play the new location - the following statement comes from Louis CK's management:

"Louis CK who was originally scheduled for the Asbury Park event will not be performing at ATP in Manhattan due to scheduling conflicts. Check louisck.com for info about his tour schedule."

Sharon Van Etten, Reigning Sound and Factory Floor will also not be available to perform. All other previously announced artists will perform as originally scheduled.

"We hope that the new venue will make for an incredible event and open up many other accommodation options to fans who were unable to find rooms in Asbury Park," comments ATP's Barry Hogan. "We sincerely apologise to those inconvenienced by the move and hope that any problems caused may be minimised by the relatively small distance between the two locations. Anyone who is unable to attend due to the move or due to the cancellation of Louis CK can claim a full refund by contacting their ticket agent between now and July 31st."

Pier 36 is a new indoor venue sitting on the edge of the East River between the Manhattan & Williamsburg Bridges - it's outside area boasts glorious views of Brooklyn and the Statue of Liberty.

The Saturday night of this year's festival will be headlined by The Afghan Whigs (who have reunited after a 13 year hiatus) and curated by their frontman Greg Dulli, with ATP curating the Friday and Sunday nights.

Tickets are on sale now via ATPfestival.com priced at $199 for the Weekend, with Day Passes also newly available priced at $60 for Friday & $75 for Saturday/Sunday.

Full information on the additions to all three days of the line-up...

Friday will feature both music and comedy - we can now announce a musical headliner for Friday, as esteemed composer PHILIP GLASS teams up with TYONDAI BRAXTON (former Battles frontman) for a completely unprecedented live collaboration. Other stellar additions to the day's musical line-up are LIGHTNING BOLT - one of the world's most unmissable live acts, and LEE RANALDO of Sonic Youth. Joining the Friday on the Comedy stage is none other than standup/actress JANEANE GAROFALO, newcomer KURT BRAUNOHLER, with more to be confirmed. Friday tickets cost $60.

Saturday, headlined by THE AFGHAN WHIGS and featuring a stellar list of artists chosen by the Whigs' frontman Greg Dulli, has three new artists. First up are alternative rock band CHAVEZ, who returned to the live arena in the last few years to much acclaim, and they're joined by Italy's AFTERHOURS (past collaborators with Greg Dulli) and Ohio based singer/songwriter JOSEPH ARTHUR. They join the previously announced Saturday line-up of The Afghan Whigs, The Roots, José González, Mark Lanegan Band, Dirty Three, The Antlers, The Dirtbombs, Scrawl, Emeralds, Vetiver, Charles Bradley And The Extraordinaires and DJ Questlove with more to be confirmed. Tickets for this day cost $75.

Sunday will be headlined by one of the incomparable live shows from legendary Canadian post-rock pioneers GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR. Also newly confirmed are Canada's fantastic BRAIDS, Britain's DEMDIKE STARE and BLANCK MASS (feat Benjamin Power of F**k Buttons), intense New York post-rock from THE PSYCHIC PARAMOUNT, a return ATP performance from THE ALBUM LEAF, cult rock quartet ENDLESS BOOGIE, alt folk duo TALL FIRS, and DJ JONATHAN TOUBIN. They join the previously announced Sunday line-up of The Make-Up, Hot Snakes, The Magic Band, Autolux, Thee Oh Sees, I Break Horses and Quintron And Miss Pussycat (moving to this day from Saturday) with more to be confirmed. Sunday tickets cost $75.

As well as the live music line-up and comedy on the Friday, our friends at The Criterion Collection will return to run the Cinema across the weekend. All three days feature DJs and other activities to be confirmed in the months ahead. Each day runs from noon-midnight.

Whether this is related to ATP filing for liquidation or not is not 100% clear (but who really cares). Updated ATP NYC lineup below...

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:46 AM

THIS IS BULLSHIT. THEY COULDN'T LET US KNOW THE LOUIS CK NEWS BEFORE THE REST OF HIS DATES SOLD OUT? FUCK YOU ATP YOU SCUMSUCKING FUCKS!!!!

ATP is done.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:48 AM

Come on people - fucking Godspeed!

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:50 AM

Hey ATP - Shellac THIS!

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:51 AM

"Janeane Garofalo & Phil Glass ?!?!?!?"

I agree that Janeane Garofalo is horrible, but Phillip Glass is incredible. His music might not be for everyone, but he is a pioneer. Some of his stuff sucks, but if he puts on the right production, it can be great.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:52 AM

Hey guys, have you ever been to Pontins Camber Sands in December?

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g1752567-d607436-Reviews-Pontin_s_Camber_Sands_Centre-Camber_East_Sussex_England.html

It's happening; it's in Manhattan. Stop moaning. Or come to Pontins.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:53 AM

No more Louis CK sucks, but Lightning Bolt and Psychic Paramount ate good additions. I just hope that GYBE plays more NYC shows besides ATP, because I'm seeing Devin Townsend, Katatonia, and Paradise List on September 23.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:54 AM

I just shit myself!

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:56 AM

shittiest lineup in ATP history

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:57 AM

just add corrupted to sunday's lineup and i will be happy

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:00 AM

just called - if you paid via paypal, and want a refund, you have to e-mail atp and try to get it that way - brown paper bag will not do the refund - what a pain - and despite the statement, no saturday tickets are available yet

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:01 AM

Yawn.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:01 AM

Gross

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:05 AM

This festival sucked ever since the 1st at Kutschers. I don't see what the big deal is now. I'm still going.

Hippies make me sick

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:07 AM

No SVE, Louis CK, Reining Sound, but still AW, GYBE, Dirtbombs
Could get a slice and a grape drink during Janeane Garofalo.
Have seen Phillip Glass already.

I dunno, I really need to think about this.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:08 AM

"His music might not be for everyone, but he is a pioneer"

Adele is a pioneer too.
So is Celine Dion.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:10 AM

Great, so I if my wife and I want to see Dirty Three in NY we have to pay $150 for a truncated set.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:10 AM

The Afghan Whigs are going to sound like shit! Pier 36??? Seriously???

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:11 AM

Janeane Garofalo? Lulz, I wouldn't of thought it possible, but this nerd fest just got nerdier.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:18 AM

"Great, so I if my wife and I want to see Dirty Three in NY we have to pay $150 for a truncated set."

Yes, that is exactly what you'll have to do.....or you could stop acting like a sniveling brat and possibly do something else with your $150. #firstworldproblems

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:21 AM

Last year’s ATP in Asbury Park was once of the best times. It was such a perfect place … walking around, wandering from show to show all night. No being corralled into a single spot. Lots of bars to hang out at. And it's the beach so who cares if they lack accommodations.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:29 AM

11:10 - no worries. You stay home and I'll show your wife a dirty three.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:31 AM

chavez.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:47 AM

Reality check - will more people go to ATP in NYC vs. NJ? Of course they will. People who don't even know what ATP is will go because it's here and not in NJ.

GYBE will not do any other shows in NYC.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:51 AM

Festival looks awesome to me. I am okay with you all staying the fuck home. There are some truly awesome bands. Fuck Louis CK. they added a real fucking legend. Phillip Glass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 11:56 AM

"GYBE will not do any other shows in NYC."

They won't now, but odds are they would have if they hadn't moved atp. Same goes for Dirty Three and I'm sure plenty of others. I would gladly pay to see a couple of these bands on their own, but I won't pay $200 to see the 2 bands I want to see play short sets.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:00 PM

i think this comment from the restructuring announcement belongs here:

"everyone complained after it moved from monticello, then everyone raves about asbury. give these guys a chance it may end up being alright. everyone is so quick to complain but then they go again and have a good time. i was guilty of this myself.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 10:42 AM"

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:02 PM

I am getting a refund. Asbury Park and Louis CK were huge selling points. The East River Piers and Garofalo are not adequate replacements. Also, every supposed press release involved with this festival has been met with a post-postponement of that announcement. From the ticket on-sale date, to the additional acts, and to this latest development. The London aspect of this festival seems to always be current, relevant and up-to-date, but the USA side of the operation is lacking. It's sad, but I am fortunate to have seen the Whigs at the Bowery Show.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:12 PM

everyone here needs to chillax.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:16 PM

11:31 - Why would you openly admit to only having a three inch penis?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:25 PM

This blows. Asbury Park or at least upstate gave you a reason to leave the city for a good show, now we are just going to see truncated sets in a lack-luster venue. This kills the spirit of the festival which is to enjoy a weekend away--almost a music summer camp experience. I am definitely going to look into getting my money back, already have Godspeed tickets for Philly in a way better venue than Pier 36.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:26 PM

I just kind of got a refund(once I mail the tickets to Brown Bag's Seattle address) and will hope to score 10 dollar tickets outside the gate if things look better in September.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:28 PM

There was a really great hummus place in Asbury and all year i was looking forward to returning. This move sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:42 PM

i'm just excited to be able to walk home from ATP this year. asbury was kind of fun, but i'm down.

would a water taxi from williamsburg be possible? could smorgasburg be relocated for the weekend?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:48 PM

So everyone who is complaining about the venue has been to Pier 36, then?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:50 PM

Kutchers had the best hummus

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:52 PM

The festival will do better after this initial backlash is done. It does suck how it was all handled, though.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 12:59 PM

Reigning Sound canceled because this is no way to treat an audience. Make up gigs in Oct. will be forthcoming, and cheaper, with longer sets, but unfortunately will not include Phillip Glass.

Posted by greg | July 13, 2012 1:00 PM

leaving asbury = sellout shit... way to cave in to scared, never leave the neighborhood, hipster culture. good job assholes

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 1:12 PM

ATP is the new Nextflix.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 1:16 PM

12:50 I think Pier 36 is part of the backlash, but I also believe that people are upset that NYC/Pier 36 does not provide the intimacy and experienced offered by past ATPs. I doubt in NY Albini will have a poker room set up or bands will be hanging out at local bars.

Now, the argument can be made that IBYM NY is now becoming the same as other IBYM seen in Tokyo or London, the US IBYM is now more in line with how other IBYM around the world are presented. Unfortunately, the ATP Camber Sands is the only ATP-run festival that is close to the experience found at kutshers or AP.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 1:17 PM

Janeane Garofalo, haha. The ATP beta males are probably 3/4 sprung.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 1:19 PM

Are the iPods playing? That is a band with real diversity from track to track!

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 1:40 PM

LOL @1:40 and 10:44.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 1:49 PM

I WANT MY, I WANT MY, I WANT MY MTV! I WANT MY, I WANT MY, I WANT MY GAROFALO!

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 1:56 PM

I hope she hasn't run out of G.W. Bush putdowns!

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 2:07 PM

If Tyondai Braxton and Toni Braxton are two different people, I'm definitely getting a refund.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 2:17 PM

"The newly renovated $13 million entertainment complex at Pier 36 is a welcomed and highly anticipated venue for not only New York, but also all of its tourists. The immense 64,000 square foot facility has already proven to be the go-to entertainment center par excellence for a long list of reputable companies, designers and artists. It is Manhattan’s newest playground that caters to any type of function and its producer. It boasts a sleek, modern canvas that is transformational responding to the creativity and artistry of each and any event. Whether it is showcasing fashion, music, dance or entertainment, all galas and affairs are executed with a mind-blowing platform."

"When not hosting special events, the space will manifest its courts located on a single floor accommodating basketball, volleyball, badminton, dodgeball and indoor soccer. Whether it be to party, play or perform, Pier 36 is blazing a trail that will long be known as a New York City landmark for all."

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 2:35 PM

Janeane Garofalo is the worst. The absolute worst. Maybe ATP can snag Armisen and really stink up the city.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 2:43 PM

Yeah, I feel like the people who live in New York bought tickets because they wanted to see a weekend of music outside of New York (like myself). And now the folks who don't live in New York have to shell out big $$$ for a New York hotel. Lose/lose here.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 2:49 PM

Non NY people should book a room in Hoboken or Jersey City and just take the water taxi to the show each day.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 2:52 PM

stupid

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 4:20 PM

i am very disappointed by this decision. if atp had a better lineup this year they would have sold more tickets. simple as that. the lodging options in asbury park were not the problem. last year seemed to work out just fine for guests. i was going to try to make it on sunday for this year's festival, but forget it now.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 4:29 PM

This was a terrible decision for people that once loved the festival that will probably work out for them financially. They'll find a few thousand idiots. Expect complaints of terrible sound (thought convention hall was bad?) and worse organizational mishaps.

I'd love to go to a Camber Sands ATP, but who in their right mind would book travel around these fuckups?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 4:59 PM

This is such a ridiculous failure, it seems impossible that the same people put on the NY fest for 3 years.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 4:59 PM

Congratulation$ ATP, you ju$t became a crappy Manhattan mu$ic fe$tival. What a disappointment.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 5:01 PM

I'm with 4:29. Went camping (in a yurt!) for Asbury. Lodging excuse is BS. The lineup was just not good enough for me to want to go. Which is a shame, 'cause I'm originally from the Asbury area and really wanted it to succeed.

Whenever there's a change in ownership etc, never a good sign. My money is that there will be bad news after more bad news and eventually it'll be canceled.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 5:14 PM

Janeane Garofalo reminds me of Kim Kardashion both loud, annoying and both have had loads of plastic surgery yet they both deny it. Neither should be 'playing' ATP. I demand a refund

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 5:23 PM

i feel like i just lost my best friend

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 5:46 PM

"none other than standup/actress JANEANE GAROFALO"

I feel like I just woke up in bed next to Big Freedia
10:43 AM

Thats pretty funny. Yes this is kinda sad for people who dont want to last minute pretty much deal with rearranging plans for an expensive NYC hotel.
Try the wonderful cheap hostel in Morgan town with horrible service, no heat, or no A\C.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 7:31 PM

Janeane Garofalo smells like the Gowanus canal.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 8:04 PM

If ATP was going to stand a chance of surviving this series of events, it was going to need to land a big name or two to add alongside this announcement. This is an unmitigated disaster.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 8:37 PM

Rocky 5 was special...

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2012 9:35 PM

The amount of butthurt here is astounding

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 12:13 AM

Laughed at 1:40. I'd like to see the IPods play this too -- might sell some tickets lol.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 12:31 AM

What are our chances of getting a Truth About Cats and Dogs meme out of this?

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 12:37 AM

OK here is my Christmas wish, Santa ... please please please let Greg Dulli get his shit all torqued off over something that Janeane Garofalo says in her "routine" the night before, and go into an epic 20-minute "fuck that whore, Janeane Garofalo" rant during Turn On The Water Saturday night. That shit would make it worth the venue change, the lack of good comedy, the shitty sound, etc. Please, Santa, that's all I want.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 1:59 AM

Well, at this point, is sounds like Dulli might only have 20 fucking minutes to play. So I hope the guy doesn't rant for all of it.

If I have to deal with a truncated Afghan Whigs set because of this I will LOSE it on someone.

I could have already flown elsewhere and seen the Whigs play for 1.5hrs but I jumped on this instead.

I guess now I end up having to come to NYC for this nu-Warped Tour scenario. fucking GREAT!

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 3:03 AM

3:03 - What breed of fucking imbecile are you? Whigs will get a full headlining set, just like EVERY curating band from EVERY ATP in the past!

ps - Nu-Warped Tour?! You are a serious fucktard!

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 7:33 AM

The problem wasn't Kutcher's, the problem wasn't Asbury Park, the problem is the sub-par lineups since the first ATP at Kutcher's. The UK ATP's always seem to have far superior lineups (except maybe The National curated one).

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 9:28 AM

Asbury Park is a sh*thole. Hipsters get mugged. NYC is safe.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 10:13 AM

9:28, truer words have never been said.

"The problem wasn't Kutcher's, the problem wasn't Asbury Park, the problem is the sub-par lineups since the first ATP at Kutcher's. The UK ATP's always seem to have far superior lineups (except maybe The National curated one)."

Rocky 1-3 were the only real Rockies

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 12:58 PM

People, please. it sucked in New Jersey, too.
The problem is there is no heart or soul to these hipster festivals, b/c there is no heart or soul in hipsters.
If you want to experience a REAL festival, go to JerryFest or some real deal hippie sh*t.
Trust me, you'll thank me later.

This is a drag. Definitely getting a refund. Asbury was some real deal shit. I loved that place it had an incredible vibe. Who, wants to see ATP in fucking bloated NYC? that is undermining the whole vibe of the festival. Get a stronger line up and a clue. Christ.

The sickest bands are playing in this festival. I hope I can go next year.
