Dirty Projectors at Music Hall of Williamsburg - 7/9/12
Dirty Projectors

Dirty Projectors are currently on tour in support of their great new album, Swing Lo Magellan (out today [7/10], stream it), and that tour brought them to Music Hall of Williamsburg last night (7/9) for their first of two NYC shows. They played every song on the new album except its closing track, "Irresponsible Tune," in addition to a few off 2009's Bitte Orca and "Beautiful Mother" from their EP with Bjork. Last night's show was intimate show for the band, and needless to say, the show had sold out quickly and the venue was packed to the brim. You can watch the archived video of their set (which streamed live) HERE. Dustin Wong opened the show. Pictures, new band member Olga Bell included, are in this post.

Dirty Projectors play Brooklyn again tonight (7/10), this time at the much larger Prospect Park with Purity Ring and Wye Oak as part of Celebrate Brooklyn. Tickets for tonight's show are still available.

More pics from last night (setlist included) and some videos from the show are below.

safe to say that everyone in the crowd was sufficiently DPed.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 11:06 AM

Would rather see the iPods -- a band with real diversity from track to track!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 11:07 AM

Safe to say that everyone in the crowd was white.

11:07 was at this show and may be a better cure for insomnia then the band (s)he went to see.

Oh, but I, er... kinda laughed at that joke. I know it's redundant and all, but I kinda laughed. Teeheeheeheeheeheehee.

...oh, no wait I didn't. just like everyone else didn't (except the guy throwing the joke out there - "I'm not 11:07, but I did kinda laugh at that joke". Right.)

Thank you Cleveland.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 11:18 AM

yea, great set of pics!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 11:32 AM

not that it matters, but it was not packed to the brim, they made sure to leave lots of extra space for the huge production. full, but not packed like other nights

To Wong Fu!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 11:39 AM

Fuck all of you useless brats. The show was fantastic. High energy, the sound was crisp and every song sounded spot on with several augmentations to the old material to make it sound new. You can't ask for more than that.

beautiful mother was rad

I will eternally hate the dirty projectors after paying $500 to see Bjork at Housing Works cafe show. If only I knew that it was going to be a shitty DP show with bjork only singing on 3 of the songs, I probably wouldn't have spent all of that money

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 12:08 PM

11:47, of course you can ask for more than that you unbelievable twit. You can ask for a band that actually is good and has great songs unlike this crappy piece of shit band. I would say overrated but except for a bunch of useless clueless dummies like yourself, no one actually gives 2 shits about this band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 12:19 PM

12:08 $500?? Why didn't you go to Science Hall Bjork show..was $85 and she played 20 or so songs! That was a Bjork show!

"I will eternally hate the dirty projectors after paying $500 to see Bjork at Housing Works cafe show."

Sounds like you eternally hate yourself now.

12:08 "In a brand new collaboration, Björk will perform music composed for her by David Longstreth. The suite, written for five voices, will pair Björk with Longstreth and Projectors' Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian, and Haley Dekle. The band will also perform material from Dirty Projectors' oeuvre, using only voices and one acoustic guitar."

You silly fool.

Love 'em, but think the new record is kinda whack...anyone agree?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 12:43 PM

11:07 I hate to admit it but I laughed a little bit

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 1:04 PM

Who else is going to flip their free 7" single to some dumbass on eBay? Vinyl collectors are idiots.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 1:07 PM

Here is a sentence from Other Music's (serious) review of the Dirty Projectors/Bjork album "Mount Wittenberg Orca":

"This is Longstreth's literal, fantastical telling of the meeting of Amber and the whales, with Bjork singing the part of the mama whale, Amber, Angel and Haley of the DP's singing the parts of the baby whales, and Dave singing Amber's role."

Also this

"Who else is going to flip their free 7" single to some dumbass on eBay? Vinyl collectors are idiots."

Probably will not get much as no one really cares.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 4:04 PM

I am embarassed to admit I actually laughed at 11:07

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 6:28 PM

This might be the best album I've heard since Bachman-Turner Overdrive II. Seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 7:01 PM

how bad was the prospect park show selling? they've been promoting the shit out of it day of show. this band is over. shark jumped.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 10:29 PM

6:28. Me too. Not proud.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2012 8:41 AM

Decent show on YouTube. God, the fans though were complete shit.

They looked like miserable fucking sheep.

I would have maybe had a blast but judging from the crowd reaction, what a boring fucking show lol.

I would have wanted to hear Rise Above, Depression, & Thirsty and Miserable.

Ah well
