Firefly Festival Day 1

Mallory Bolyard, 25, of Townsend, was planning to go to Firefly Music Festival whether her friends were going or not. And although she has some friends here, a lot of them are only interested in concerts with big names that they like. They're not as interested in discovering new music. Her mom is, though, so the two hit the three-day festival together. Mallory was excited to see the festival come to her home state. "It's the first major concert in Delaware besides the State Fair, which is basically country," she said. [DelawareOnline.com]
The Firefly Music Festival is going on this weekend in Dover, DE, a city and state not used to such musical excitement. Day one, Friday, 7/20, gave us sets from Jack White, Silversun Pickups, The Wallflowers, John Legend, Bassnectar, OK Go, Blind Pilot, and more. The rain was on and off all day and by Jack White's headlining set, it turned into a downpour.

Here are some pictures from that day (with Saturday and Sunday on the way soon). More below..

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2012 9:40 PM

it was only undersold because it was in DEL

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2012 10:20 PM

Wallflowers = nepotism act. Pull the plug already.

Did the iPods play this show? They would have brought some much-needed diversity. ; )

I talked with you before the show, Dana, and have been waiting all weekend for your photos to show up. Great stuff! And thank you for being pretty much the only photographer to capture shots of Jack's bare feet. That was definitely an unexpected highlight of the show.

Laughed at 12:17.

Undersold? Better sales than Coachella's first year. This was a huge success. The organizers said 20-30K and got 30K this year.

Ron Ozer - Defending Delaware's music scene since 2012.

These McFestivals are redundant and pointless.

I heard a rumor (so give as much weight as you want to it) but since Jack White is all low tech and old school he actively campaigned against The iPods playing this festival. Something about them "lacking soul": or some such nonsense. Anyway I guess that it's academic now.

RIP iPods. iPods 4-evah!

undersold but you gotta grow into a facility. i thought the logistics were good, lay out solid, and (to my sight) no real bullshit. Sunday for Black Keys was massive

GREAT festival, great photos, seemed like a well-run event that was very well-attended...looking forward to next year. Charles Bradley was amazing.
