DOWNLOAD: Guantanamo Baywatch - Boomerenga (MP3)

Portland, OR does not have a beach but that hasn't stopped trio Guantanamo Baywatch from kicking out vintage-sounding twangy surf rock infused with a twisted sense of glee. And when it comes to a genre like this, enthusiasm counts for a lot. They are also not afraid to give a song a "cha cha cha" ending, something I secretly wish bands would do more. Their new album, Chest Crawl, out now via Dirtnap, is a good time tiki party with extra-spiked punch. You can download "Boomeranga" at the top of this post.
Guantanamo Baywatch are currently on tour and hit NYC on Wednesday, July 11 for a show at Cake Shop with local punks The Numerators. All tour dates are listed at below.

"Guantanamo Baywatch" -- that is indeed an interesting name choice for a Portland based band!

Oh wait, I get it. Guantanamo Bay. That's the land in Cuba where we have a military compound. Baywatch was a kitschy tv show about lifeguards. So if you put the two of those together you get GuantanamoBAYWATCH! I predict many great years of great music from this trio. Their sense of irony and knack for wordplay is abundantly self-evident and delicious. I wish we had more bands exactly like this.

Wait, a bunch of hipsters created an ironic (AND LIBERAL!) name for their band, and then play some sort of lo-fi surf rock jam band crap? HOLY COW, THIS IS A REVELATION!
These kids must be geniuses.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 12:25 PM
12:25 is either a member of the band, or someone who honestly doesn't understand that none of us would actually name a band any of the retarded names that we've listed here, or both.
