DOWNLOAD: Guided by Voices - "Class Clown Spots a UFO" (MP3)

Guided by Voices in Brooklyn in 2011 (more by Tamara Porras)
Guided by Voices

To quote a May BV Austin post:

Late last year, Guided by Voices denied rumors of re-breaking up (they reunited in 2010) and quickly followed that with a new album, Let's Go Eat the Factory, which came out this past January. But it wouldn't be GBV's style to do a reunion album without one or two more the same year, right? They [released] another 21-song full length, Class Clown Spots a UFO, on June 12 and a third new LP, Bears for Lunch, should see a release this November. Rolling Stone recently premiered the title track from Class Clown Spots a UFO, a track that's actually been floating around in the band's repertoire for years and has been finished and re-recorded for the new album. Download that above, or stream it below, along with the album art and tracklist.

Guided by Voices will be playing the CBGB Festival in NYC this summer, and in September they'll kick off a tour with Detective which comes to TX for shows in Houston at Warehouse Live on 9/24 and Austin at Emo's East on 9/25. Tickets for the Austin show are on sale now.

That CBGB Festival show is the big free show in Central Park with The War on Drugs, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Cloud Nothings, and it goes from 3-7pm on Saturday (7/7). Get there early because not only is it a killer lineup from start to finish, you want to make sure you get in before it reaches capacity. If you do get shut out, you can always head to Times Square for CYHSY & the Hold Steady (and Superchunk, though Superchunk play before the Central Park show starts and the other two-mentioned bands play during it).

Meanwhile GBV play the Troc in Philly tonight (7.6). Their September tour is with Detective, which is Jim Greer from Guided By Voices' other band. Check out a Detective video with all tour dates and the new GbV album info, below...

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 7:36 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 7:54 PM

Bob Pollard is a stone cold hippie

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 8:49 PM

Grateful Dead > Phish > GBV > Crap

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 8:51 PM

>>Detective, which is Jim Greer from Guided By Voices' other band

dude was subbing for Greg Demos role in GbV for 11 months 17 years ago. He is not current a member of GbV

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 9:03 PM

Why so cryptic about Superchunk's set time?

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 9:04 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 10:24 PM

set times:

Superchunk - 3:00
GBV - 4:20

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 10:32 PM

GBV is @ 6, don't let 10:32 ruin your weekend with that faulty time. no idea about Superchunk though

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 10:34 PM

Grandpa Bob, it's time to quit

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 11:37 PM

GbV is a hippie band. So what? Why must BV readers insult hippies? John Lennon and Neil Young were hippies. Fuck off if you're going to be a snob about it.

Posted by Pollard | July 6, 2012 11:41 PM

I love Gbv, but that new album really sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2012 11:52 PM

gbv has some real good songs. they are a little past their prime, and the hippie shit is annoying, but whatever.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 12:01 AM

gbv were past their prime in 89

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 12:09 AM

class clown spots a crappy hippie band

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 12:09 AM

So I can watch some old hippies dick around on some self indulgent improv shit, in Times Square , in a hundred degree heat?

Easiest 'no thank you' ever..

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 12:22 AM

Still no answer on when Superchunk plays?

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 12:30 AM

one guy has nothing better to do that write multiple posts calling GBV hippies.. I've been following this band for close to 20 years and this is THE only place anyone has ever called GBV a hippie band...anything said after this (or before even) is just one guy's "GBV are a hippie band" meme.. end of story..

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 1:02 AM

^ha this freak has been following gbv for almost 20 years. No I don't want to buy a grilled cheese you dirty hippie.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 1:28 AM

GBV was special...

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 1:32 AM

Greg Demos sold me a shirt once

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 2:00 AM

hippies are gross

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 2:18 AM

"hippies are gross"

I completely agree. Then again, twentysomething virgins who continually characterize GBV as a hippie band are gross as well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 2:37 AM

The show tomorrow is going to smell like a mixture of patchouli and sweaty ass. I'll pass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 2:43 AM

In a site littered with stupid and unfunny jokes, the GBV one might be the worst.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 3:18 AM

Why do people hate on Hippies? They generally har good weed to share and often have knowledge about new and exciting hummus recipes.

Both are plus 1's in my book.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 4:44 AM

According to Jon Wurster, Superchunk are on at 1:20.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 8:44 AM

superchunk probably playing for only 30 minutes

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 9:28 AM

Not a single black person will go to this show.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 9:30 AM

fucka buncha clueless kidz you bunch of babiez...

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 9:48 AM

True to its namesake, this entire festival has been run with a tremendous lack of professionalism. Kudos, guys!

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 10:31 AM

Most black people do not like hippies

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 11:00 AM

lenny kravitz would disagree with you.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 11:15 AM

They should have broken up when Pigpen died

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 11:21 AM

I love hipsters making funny of "hippie bands" god, shut up forever please. GBV kicks your ass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 3:36 PM

All the "hippie" posts are clearly from the same jackass. GBV is a band of weird, old drunks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 3:58 PM

Might still be able to catch GBV if you are at The Hold Steady in Times Square. War on Drugs had some equipment problems do it's running late. No way GBV goes on right at 6. Superchunk played 40 minutes and was great despite Mac's equipment issues on a couple of songs. Duff McKagan's Loaded mangling of those Damned and Stooges covers? Not so much. Poor Glen Matlock

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2012 4:49 PM

If anything, I really fucking hate Williamsburg. Fucking Bro's of the future for sure, all assholes to me.

Posted by Sam | July 7, 2012 6:14 PM

There were some really fucking funny posts here. Thanks for the laughs guys! Will be coming back soon.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2012 11:09 PM

Really like their new album just saying.
