Iceage
Iceage

Iceage finished a round of NYC shows with a performance at Le Poisson Rouge last night (7/22), appealing to their more gothic tendencies with appearances from Dirty Beaches, Martial Canterel and Rosenkopf. The previous night (7/21) showcased Iceage's punk roots, featuring a gang of bands all hellbent on 285 Kent's destruction that night: Nomad, Bortgang, Sad Boys and Goosebumps. Pictures from the awesome Le Poisson Rouge show are below.

Iceage is currently tearing through the US and recently made a stop at Mohawk in Austin (pictures) and the Pitchfork Festival (ditto). All remaining dates and pictures from LPR are below.

Sorry for the repost but it's more relevant in this thread.

Iceage made a great album but they simply can't pull it off live. All the subtle layering and nuance that makes the LP such a great post-punk hardcore statement is lost and they rush through their songs like they can't wait to never have to play 'em again. Add the fact that they (rightly) are paranoid to not be perceived as the Pitchfork endorsed new boy band of hardcore (thus knocking people's camera phones out of their hands) and you've got a live mess. Judging from his appreciation of Sean/Martial Canteral and Dirty Beaches, I have a feeling the singer is gonna start concentrating a lot more on Var moving forward.

Var > Iceage. So much more potential, despite a dubious recording debut.

Hmm interesting. I was at both shows and really enjoyed both. I like Elias' stage presence. I think he's the real deal. The 285 show was representative of their punk roots, whereas like this reviewer said, LPR was representative of their goth roots. Both are great. The 285 show was pretty insane. Almost half of the floor turned into mosh pit a few times. It was seriously disgusting in there. You couldn't breathe and people kept splashing beer everywhere, typical 285 experience I guess. Still, I liked the Brooklyn show better of the two. Would much rather see a band like Iceage in a completely no-holds-barred venue, where shiz can get nasty. Yep.
