Oneohtrix Point Never w/ A Far Cry at World Financial Center - 7/14/12
ECSTATIC SUMMER with Onehotrix Point Never & A Far Cry

Oneohtrix Point Never (aka Daniel Lopatin), who also played Pitchfork fest over the weekend, and Bang on a Can composer David Lang played the second installment of the Ecstatic Summer concert series at the World Financial Center on Saturday (7/14).

"The composers were Daniel Lopatin, who produces electronic works under the name Oneohtrix Point Never; William Brittelle, whose works are vibrant amalgams of jazz, rock and postmodern chamber music; and David Lang, part of the Bang on a Can triumvirate, whose music ranges widely but most often combines strains of Minimalism and Neo-Romanticism.

Mr. Lang, the oldest and most firmly established of the three (he won a Pulitzer Prize in 2008), had top billing, but in a way this was Mr. Lopatin's show." [NY Times]

In the way that these 'Ecstatic' events go, Oneohtrix Point Never played a partial set of solo material and was then joined by string ensemble A Far Cry Orchestra to perform newly arranged renditions of his work with arrangements by Brittelle.

Ecstatic Summer continues and ends at the World Financial Center on August 25 with Escort and Darcy James Argue's Secret Society. The first show in the seires featured Tune-Yards.

Oneohtrix Point Never's next scheduled NYC show is the 'Yo Eskerikk Asko NYC!' festival, which goes down at Public Assembly from August 24 - 25 with Glenn Brenca, Tim Hecker, Colin L. Orchestra, White Suns, and more.

onetrix point never play live

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 5:11 PM

hey, look at me. im the guy that cant actually play any real instruments, live on stage with 20 crack players... im so sick of obese bearded men playing laptops, like they are at the same level as a juilliard musician... included when its thought of in such an academic way. people forget that those who started computer music, usually actually knew about music theory instead of a bunch of windish agency plonks playing around with ableton controllers.

@ 5:32PM - U mad bro?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 5:43 PM

typo it is glenn branca

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 6:58 PM

5:32 PM Well said.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:26 PM

one oh trix pointnever again plz omg——————saw this guy at LIVING BREAD with black dice and i fell asleep standing up.... this looks better cuz u could sleep in ur chair but those violins dont play computer sounds or doombats?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:40 PM

5:32 - Absolutely not 'well said'. The idea that interesting music can only be produced by classically trained musicians playing traditional instruments is antiquated - peddling it makes you sound petty and completely out of touch with modern music.

Ironically, Dan Lopatin is a talented 'musician' by your pathetically narrow definition - though I'm certain you have absolutely no idea what his music sounds like or know anything about his background.

You're likely just another narrow-minded, bitter internet troll, who has a low-level job in the music industry (your 'Windish agency' comment was a barely veiled attempt to give your ramblings some 'credibility') and a terrible band that is 'struggling' for 'recognition' and it's so frustrating that a guy using a computer (!) to make music is getting it.

slow clap 10:50, slow clap

While I agree with 5:32 in that "laptop musicians" can make for a less exciting show than a traditional rock band, 10:50 really pwnt you.

Also, mentioning "real instruments" and Juilliard really just shows that you are an angry white man who will not stand for anything outside of what you consider normal and is angered to see those who achieve success outside of said normalcy.

Question: what's worse than watching a fat bearded nerd pretending that pushing keys on a laptop is a live music performance?

Answer: other fat bearded nerds actually believing that it is.

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2012 10:11 PM

10:11: your joke about my being fat, bearded, unmusical and nerdy is only hurtful because the punchline is kinda awkward. i can appreciate a good question and answer joke: you had the right succinctness, but the actual joke was boring.

the other thing about comedians which i can really appreciate is that they are publicly accountable for their opinions. the picture i'm getting of you though, is of a unfunny coward who says derisive, albeit boring things about people on the internet. maybe you're not actually like that generally, as a human being in the world, maybe you are mostly a nice guy, i have no idea.

if you're interested, consider this trade i'd like to put on the table: i'll go to the gym and sign up for a guitar lesson if you meet up with me and tell me that i'm fat and untalented to my face. if you present the insult in the form of a humorous one-liner or comedic rant, i'll shave my beard. However, if it's not funny then my friend Arthur is going to pie you! this also helps me to not eat the pie.

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2012 4:01 PM

By his behavior here Dan Lopatin has set fat bearded nerds back at least 10 years. Like when Friends went topless.

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2012 4:05 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2012 4:06 PM

Is this nerd friends with Lustmord?

Is 3:58 Frohawk?

Was anyone stupid enough back in the day to want to sit in an audience and watch Glenn Gould dick around on his laptop?

It's all so confusing!

"You can hear the sound of two BV anonymous assholes arguing together," said Mokurai. "Now show me the sound of one BV anonymous asshole." He looked at this thread.
