Roger Waters brought his The Wall tour to Philly's Citizens Bank Park on Saturday (7/14), after hitting NYC twice earlier this month. Like the other shows, the band played in front of the giant titualar wall, and the show was broken up into two sets, each being a different platter of the double album. The setlist of course, was The Wall in its entirety. The Philly Inquirer write:

Given that The Wall eventually draws a pointed analogy between rock excess and Fascist spectacle, the sprawling, thoroughly immodest production was awash in unintended irony. "In the Flesh" staged a rock concert as Nazi rally, climaxing with Waters machine-gunning the crowd, who heartily cheered their own mock execution. During "Bring the Boys Back Home," the stage behind Waters flooded with images of poverty and famine, climaxing with a photo of what looked like a starving African child; the image was disturbing but also deracinated, torn from its specific time and place to make a statement so broad it verged on generic. Onscreen quotes referenced Kafka and George Orwell, but there was something disconcerting, even grotesque, about the obeisance Waters' own spectacle demanded. With its enveloping surround sound, The Wall made surrender seductive, not the natural endpoint for an evening that began with a speech from Spartacus.

Was a setlist really necessary to post?

Thanks for the coverage! Really looking forward to post for the St. Louis date.

I'm pretty sure that the article in the Inquirer was also full of unintended irony. He acts as if no one in the audience has ever seen the film and he's the only one who knows what it's about. What a pompous ass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:36 AM

Wait a minute...there was a Nazi rally at our ballpark? Wow.

d'oh

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:40 AM

Do you think this guy locks the doors to his house?

Posted by MildManneredPervert | July 16, 2012 11:46 AM

Looks boring!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:48 AM

i love floyd and roger, but the wall is just him crying about his parents. get over it dude

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:51 AM

11:48 - you really couldn't be any more f--king wrong right now.

I was at this show and it was incredible!! The stage was immense (The Wall stretched from left field foul pole to right) and the sound/ visual experience was top notch....surround sound with constant changing imagery. I really couldn't believe how amazingly crisp and clear the sound was for it being in a stadium. My only problem was that with so much going on, it seemed at times more like a crazy Vegas-styled show instead of a concert with a live band. Overall, just a great experience!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:02 PM

12:02..sound is crisp..like a cd playing on a stereo perhaps? Backing tracks..

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:14 PM

Show was lame...I was there and I kept guessing what the next song would be...and still nothing off of Pulse! Glad I paid $10 in the lot for this..

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:14 PM

I love how every says the show was great visual..no one talks about the live music...Roger needs to can this BS and play a real live show with no hype BS. Maybe play a show with a bunch of different songs at Radio City..that might be worth going to.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:16 PM

Yeah, I'd rather punk it up at another LCD show, guys. Right? RIGHT??

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:17 PM

"Maybe play a show with a bunch of different songs at Radio City"

Yeah, good luck getting tix to that one, pal!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:23 PM

^at least LCD played a live show..no backing tracks..it was a show with flaws which I like, not cd like perfection.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:24 PM

Here is a fact! LCD SOUNDSYSTEM released way better albums than anything Roger Waters put out in over 2 decades!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:26 PM

Oh, The Wall .... yeah, I remember that one. 1980, right? What's this, the 5th tour? Maybe he should hook up with the rep company for Rent or Les Mis and do 2 weeks at a time in each city.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:27 PM

12:14 - Wow, you are really sad and pathetic!

ps - Run Like Hel and Comf. Numb are both on Pulse, d-face.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:28 PM

You people are way too easy! My job is done here!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:34 PM

No one can deny 12:26 that is for sure!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:36 PM

Oh man. Yes people, the wall was crazy spectacle, perhaps too much. But where was everyone complaining he should strip it down for the last ten years when he's done exactly that? What about when he did all of Dark Side at MSG with Nick Mason on drums, then did a full set of Floyd and solo record material?

Or the In the Flesh tour at Jones Beach? Or even the more stripped version of these Wall shows at MSG and Nassau last year?

Y'all are making it sound like he hasn't played anything but the Wall in the last ten years.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:39 PM

Roger Waters makes it slip automatically to either extreme.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:40 PM

Wall-E is more entertaining..Does anyone elses copy of Pulse Cd still have a working blinking light?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:41 PM

I rather see the ipods..they have diversity from show to show.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:42 PM

EEEEEEE-VAAAAAAAAA

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:44 PM

Maybe Rog should start learning some show tunes too. Make it into a perennial favorite. "Theeeeeeeeeeere's NO business like WALL busineess like NO business I KNOOOOOOOOW" amirite

Roger Waters=Peter Hook

Both shilling decades old albums they should be...

Both Bass players who can't sing

Both from England

1:13, you could just say that you don't like or "get" Roger Waters/Pink Floyd without trying too hard to be clever, by inserting a reference from another recent article here. But I guess ya gotta be "hip".

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 2:20 PM

^Sorry sitting in a stadium to hear a 30 year old album that has been toured behind for several years doesn't excite me. I liked Pink Floyd but this doesnt do it for me..

Happy?

Roger Water's guitar was about to drop from his hand in the show. But his magical hands didn't let that happen. That show was just AWESOME!
