The Paperhead

Nashville time travellers The Paperhead are on tour right now with their Tennessee neighbors D Watusi with two stops in NYC this week: Thursday (7/12) at Death by Audio and Friday (7/13) at Cake Shop. All tour dates are listed below.

Though barely old enough to vote, these teenagers make music that sounds like vintage '60s psychedelic pop, straight out of Nuggets. The band's debut album on Trouble in Mind from last year is very good, but their new single, "Pictures of Her Demise," is flat-out great, like a lost side by the Electric Prunes or Syd-era Pink Floyd. You can download it above.

The Death By Audio show also features Strip Mall, Turnip King and "The ? in ? (cant say who it is but they are on a label called _ozac)." We're not sure exactly what that last bit means.

The Band in Heaven

In completely unrelated news, Florida's trippy The Band in Heaven is in town this weekend, playing Skippers on Pier 17 at South St. Seaport on Friday night (7/13) immediately after the 4Knots Fest pre-party with Eleanor Friedberger / Ex Cops / Zambri show on the big Pier 16 stage (also the Seaport). The Friday Skipper's show also has Zambri on DJ duties and "special guests." The Band in Heaven will also open the Skipper's stage at the 4Knots Fest on Saturday (7/14) at the Seaport around noon.

You may remember we profiled them back in January when their 7" was about to drop on HoZac records. If you like fuzz bass, drone-outs, flower-power psych, '90s shoegaze, and the letters J, A, M and C, you'll definitely want to check them out. "Summer Bummer" from that HoZac 7" is downloadable above and you can stream all four of its tracks below.

Band In Heaven are great, they aren't on the 4Knots flyer though...... Friday show should be cool. Never been to a Seaport Pier show actually....
