Lot of cool free things happening today: The 4Knots Festival is at South Street Seaport today, with a seriously solid line-up including Archers of Loaf, The Drums, Crocodiles, Hospitality and Bleached. Nick Waterhouse is worth getting there early for (1:30PM). There's an afterparty (not free) at Beekman Beer Garden with The Black Lips and Jonathan Toubin.

If you're looking for something nearby to do after 4Knots, the indie/classical Ecstatic Summer series at the World Financial Center Plaza has a collaboration between Oneohtrix Point Never and Bang on a Can composter David Lang, plus A Far Cry. 7PM, also free.

It's also Woody Guthrie's 100th Birthday today, with a free beachside screening of Woody biopic Bound for Glory and performances by Billy Bragg and Steve Earle.

You can also check out the free Summer Thunder series at Union Pool today with Sightings, Smoota, and Lone Wolf.

In more NYC festival news, tonight marks the conclusion of The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival with a show at Brooklyn Bridge Park in DUMBO headlined by Busta Rhymes.

The Spy Music Festival is still ongoing.

Cake Shop is having another benefit night tonight, with door proceeds going to supplement their PledgeMusic Campaign. The Band in Heaven (who are playing the tough noon slot on the 4Knots Skipper's Stage today) have been added to the bill that includes Wild Yaks, Shilpa Ray, The Immaculates, and DON'T. $10 - 15 sliding scale at the door.

Not in New York, but you can watch the Pitchfork Festival live from Chicago via the internet. Today you can watch Hot Chip, Cloud Nothings, Atlas Sound, and more.

Tonight is also the long-awaited opening of Bushwick rock megaplex The Well/The Wick with Cam'ron christening the venue's stage, with Flatbush Zombies, and Asaad & Reese. The party is from 4PM to 10PM and tickets are still available.

What else?

If Woody Guthrie played a show today, Dave Hill would walk the fuck out.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 3:25 PM

If woody Guthrie were alive today, he would laugh at the ridiculousness of these comments.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 3:26 PM

If woodie Guthrie were around in 2012 he would ramble in to your girlfriends house and give her good good loving.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 3:57 PM

Woodie never ever drank a drop of grape soda.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 3:58 PM

Woodie makes it slip automatically to either extreme

Is there a fire at South Street Seaport/4knots? Someone just posted pictures on FB looking across the river at the seaport with crazy fire smoke...

"If woodie Guthrie were around in 2012 he would ramble in to your girlfriends house and give her good good loving."

Actually, facts say that if Woody Guthrie were around in 2012 he would ramble into the neighborhood dive bar and be the one throwing up all over himself at closing time, refusing to leave and unwilling to pay his tab unless he got one more drink.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 6:05 PM

Woody Guthrie ran the okey-doke on Bessie Smith

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 6:24 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 6:39 PM

Worst comments ever.
You all are crack babies.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 6:53 PM

No way. 5:47's comment rules, but he and i are both too old to be commenting here. No one shows Woody cartoons anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 8:15 PM

no, Arlo would be the crack baby

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 8:41 PM

4:45 clearly wins the thread

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 8:51 PM

Archers of Loaf showed all the pussy bands you go see at Shea Stadium and 285 Kent how it''s done again.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 10:18 PM

Between the fire delay and lackluster performances from Crocodiles and The Drums, truly the worst Village Voice festival ever. And considering the fire, perhaps they should go back to calling it the Siren Festival after all.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 10:19 PM

Archers Of The Loaf don't even qualify to be called a footnote. To say they are overrated would imply that they rate whatsoever, which they don't. They are simply now, as they have always been = irrelevant. Glad you had a good time, though.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 10:25 PM

Neckface is more relevant than Pinchers Of The Loaf.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 10:26 PM

bob dylan would have boned Woody Guthrie

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2012 11:04 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 8:23 AM

lol neckface lol

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 8:42 AM

Why do they always get these shit bands like Pinchers Of the Loaf, Guided By Hummus and The Mold Diddy to play these would-be-awesome NYC free music fests? How come Summerstage and Celebrate Brooklyn have better scheduling than festivals specifically designed to be about "good music"? Shit ain't right.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 8:47 AM

If Woody Guthrie was alive today, he would have avoided 4Knots too (he would actually be too drunk to move)

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 8:53 AM

Archers were great. So was Bleached. Those little beach balls were annoying as fuck. Skipped most of the rest, missed the fire, only saw scary black smoke clouds from a distance.

Why so many Archers haters? How many of you the new bands you like will still have any interest 20 years down the line?

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 9:43 AM

Nick Waterhouse was good. Bleached put on the best set of the day. The Drums and Crocodiles were boring. Archers of Loaf were good as well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 10:13 AM

Archers were a-fucking-mazing! Haters can eat a bag of asses. everyone who left before them is a boring twat with terrible taste in music!

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 10:59 AM

Archers of Loaf, Built To Spill, Modest Mouse...what's the fucking difference. Boring, middle-aged indie rock past its sell date.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 11:35 AM

The ignorance on this website is staggering.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 12:12 PM

Archers put on a phenom show. Quality rock.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 12:21 PM

L1n5anity is dead!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 1:35 PM

I like that 10:25 is so passionate about his ignorance...

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 7:07 PM

10:25 really nailed it

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 7:35 PM

archers of meh

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2012 11:11 PM

Anyone who talks about music in terms of "Relevant" or "Irrelevant" is an idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 10:25 AM

Woody Guthrie was a hero, unlike the likes of you.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 10:45 AM

Archers of Loaf were terrible. This is what you people like? I left halfway through and went to Further @ Coney Island to see some REAL musicians play and of course, it was incredible.
And, the parking lot was amazing.

Meatloaf>Archers of Loaf

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 10:51 AM

No surprise that Pinchers Of The Loaf fans also esteem Woody the drunk as well. Lemme guess ... couldn't get a plane ticket out to London for the BRUUUUUUUCE show?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 10:51 AM

and you did ?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 10:58 AM

Archers of Loaf have and always will be awesome rock. Never kowtowing to specific scene aesthetics; they keep it real from Chapel Hill. Good Times, Good Times.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 10:59 AM

Archers of Loaf have and always will suck, as previously stated my multiple posters on this thread. The BV "community" being one of the few sub-cultures that has actually heard of them, with the rest of the world merely giving a quizzical expression and an open-mouthed reply of "Who?"

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:02 AM

^ should be "... previously stated BY multiple posters ..."

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:03 AM

I saw AoL multiple times opening for bands I wanted to see in the mid 90's. I was not into them. I considered it nerd rock. I can't even imagine how nerdy it is 15+ years later.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:34 AM

If you like Archer of the Loaf, you are probably still living at your parent's house and eating cereal for dinner. Grow the fuck up, Archers of the Loaf fans!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 11:38 AM

The AoL hate is all one guy.. its pretty obvious..
they sold out all their 4 NYC area shows in the past year and were asked to headline 4Knots.... Its not a "sub culture" you dimwit..

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2012 12:45 PM

super fun for sure.
