The Catalpa Music Festival starts today, with performances by The Black Keys, TV on the Radio and more. Why yes, you can still get tickets.

Today is also the free Roberta's Bushwick Block Party with Andrew WK, the Turbofruits, Heems, free pizza, a bunch more bands and more. Noon - midnight. Sure to be a scene.

There's also the MoMA PS1 Warm Up with MJ Cole, SINKANE, Slava and more.

The weather forecast for the next, oh, five days or so looks pretty wet, but rain today is not supposed to hit till 5PM or so.

If you're looking for an indoor festival, the Breakout Sessions Music Fest is happening at Delinquency in Williamsburg. It starts at 3PM and features Grand Rapids, The Yellow Dogs, recently-profiled-by-us Louisville, KY band Murals, and many more. Not free ($12), but there's free Brooklyn Brewery beer from 3 - 5PM and then again from 9 - 11PM.

Or, you could just stay home and watch the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat that is the 2012 London Olympics.

Speaking of the London Olympics, did you watch the nutty, Danny Boyle-directed opening ceremony with Kenneth Brannagh doing Shakespeare, Mary Poppins, a 50-ft tall Voldemort, Mr Bean, James Bond, a parachuting Queen Elizabeth II, and nearly every British pop culture icon short of giant fish n' chips balloons and a Benny Hill chase scene set to "Yackety Sax"? Nuts. (And awesome.) Oh, and performances from Paul McCartney, the guy from Two Door Cinema Club... and the Artctic Monkeys performed a straightforward cover of The Beatles' "Come Together." No video of that we could find, but you can stream their performance below.

What else?

World empire aside, the British have always been murderous little trolls with bad teeth and a plantation owner's mentality toward music. Counting the days until this olympics is done.

"Saturday can take the rest of the day off ..A Place to Bury Strangers levelled the playing field last night at Music Hall of Williamsburg"

Such an extremely dumb person you are. Almost as dumb as those opening ceremonies last night. There was nothing nutty or awesome about it. Kind of a bore. Just cause Boyle threw everything and the Kitchen sink at it does not make it awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2012 12:21 PM

12:21 your opinion of me is so enlightening. You didn't like it. I did. Big fuckin'deal.

Was the 24 year old guy shot on North 9 and Bedford last night a BV commenter? Could this be you angry losers taking your online arguments into the streets?

One can only hope.

I'll never understand BV's love for Andrew WK

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2012 1:46 PM

Shitty playlist, shitty ceremonies. But some people like parades, so who am I to piss on their breakfast?

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2012 1:55 PM

"Saturday can take the rest of the day off "

Expressing stupidity such as this should bear with it the same penalty as urinating in public, serving trans fat / +22 oz sugar drinks, or leaving your children in the car in the summer.

Stupidity affects us all.

I'm feeling sorry for catalpa promoters and the dolts who bought tickets for more than $20. No one is attending and Craigslist has hundreds of tix and VIP passes for fire sale prices. Rainy weather too. Disaster.

Who are the idiots buying catalpa tickets for $100 a day / $180 a weekend ? There're about 4 bands playing there each day. Ni wonder you could get it on CL for $30-40.

They were practically giving away Catalpa tickets online if you knew where to look. That, and Groupon had tickets that were heavily discounted.

Shit didn't sell well, I imagine.
