Shut Up and Play the Hits

The LCD Soundsystem concert film/documentary Shut Up and Play the Hits makes its one-night national theatrical run on July 18. Screenings on that date are sold out in NYC except for the recently-added 9:30 screening at Clearview Chelsea, and you can grab tickets for a recently added screening happening at Sunshine at 10pm on July 26.

The film's official NYC premiere, however, is Tuesday, July 10 and you can't buy tickets to that, but we've got two pair of tickets to give away to this invite-only event. The premiere happens at 7:30 and winners will receive theater location.

Details on how to enter are below, along with a list of all theaters showing the flick.

Include your first and last name in the email. We'll pick a winner at random and contact them with more details. (Theater location, etc.) If you enter by email, it will not be shared with anyone else. Good luck!

LCD was special

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 3:32 PM

It's really just weird how big this band got the second they announced that they were retiring. Skyrocketed to indie legend status before my eyes, exalted as hipster gods when their music is good/great at best. Absolutely nothing that merits idolatry (aside from maybe the 'Sound of Silver' LP which was great start-to-finish).

I get that everyone needed someone to hail as the kings, it just seemed weird that this is the band you all chose.

Case in point: I sold my +1 to the LCD MHOW show (9 months before the MSG show) for $120. That was LCD Soundsystem at a 550-capacity venue, with a fucking unbelievable setlist (and a show that was - yes - better than MSG!). Come MSG time, people are willing to pay $3,000 for a floor ticket at MSG? Hipster insanity if I've ever seen it. Would've sold all my MSG tickets if my girlfriend would've had it that way.

Totally taking Frohawk as my date if I win this.

Shut Up and Eat the Hummus

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 3:46 PM

hey, cool, its that band that broke up to play one giant final show, then a year later talk about getting back together for a soundtrack. bands these days are fucking jokes, no matter what the age of the performers...

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 3:48 PM

Sound of Silver is a good album.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 3:50 PM

"hey, cool, its that band that broke up to play one giant final show, then a year later talk about getting back together for a soundtrack. bands these days are fucking jokes, no matter what the age of the performers..." yep.

although honestly, if any of you thought LCD were actually 'breaking up' and shelled out $$$ for those farewell shows, then y'all got played. just give it two years, when nancy and pat are begging james to make another album bc none of them have any other highly profitable skillsets and their dj sets have been exposed for the bullshit they are. this recent soundtrack development is just the start. i bet they have an album already penned.

NO

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 3:54 PM

the very long ending of lcd soundsystem

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 4:00 PM

lolololol @ this

FWIW, I like LCD though. And I agree with 3:35

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 4:00 PM

LCD hype was officially when I realized that I'm too fucking old to understand music anymore. I'm starting to feel like I did when some assclown at work was giving us X'ers shit and trying to tell me that the only good new band was Counting Crows. Yeah, I knew he was being an assclown, but now I feel like that assclown.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 4:11 PM

yawn of all yawns.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 4:12 PM

@411 I am generation y or z or whatever. you aren't out of touch. lcd is decent, 'great' at best. but nothing incredible, or worth worshipping. you're not missing anything by not 'hearing it.'

the true generational divider is skrillex. never seen such a clean cut.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 4:51 PM

People actually liked LCD. That joke never gets old

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 4:55 PM

What does the "LCD" in LCD Soundsystem stand for?

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 5:54 PM

^ I believe it stands for "Love Chickpea Dips"

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 5:55 PM

How much of Fat James Murphy can fit on a movie screen?

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 6:33 PM

For the last time - WHAT HITS????

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 6:44 PM

O lordy Fat James Murphy. Better take this shit to IMAX.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 6:54 PM

335FTW

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 7:02 PM

no thanks. you suck so bad. more to come.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 7:16 PM

The only good new band still is Counting Crows.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 7:17 PM

So unwarranted. I'm gonna stay home and watch "Stop Making Sense" instead.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 9:07 PM

When will it stop? They had like 3 good songs.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2012 11:13 PM

James Murphy is a killer DJ.
Way better then 99% of Djs I've heard... And ge also spins all Vinyl, so y'all need to clear the wax out your ears. MP3 DJs all suck. And always will.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 12:22 AM

James Murphy is so fat, when he DJs around the town, he DJs AROUND the town.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 1:12 AM

Hate on LCD all you want. But if you lived in NYC or Williamsburg in the early 2000s, they were the fucking best. It was a crazy era and they defined it. Someone new will always come along...

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 4:47 AM

447 even that is debatable. i was there.

no. one. really. gave. a. shit. until. they. were. breaking. up. they were YYY caliber at best.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 7:36 AM

3:35 I was at the MHOW and bought a ticket for $20 face a week before the show on TM. How did you sell that for $120? Tickets were avilable til about a day before the show.

I also went to the show in Montclair with Sleigh Bells, 1 T5 and MSG.

MHOW was great but I enjoyed Montclair more as it was the premier of You Wanted a Hit, Dance Yourself Clean and Home!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 9:23 AM

@923 maybe you got them in a re-release. those tix were pretty hard to get, and instantly sold out.

mhow got straight emotional. so good.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 9:40 AM

@9:23 - Yeah that Montclair show was sick.

MSG was bitter sweet. Saw one of the 'final' T5 shows, that was good too. Also saw them at T5 another time. But agreed on the Welmont, was my favorite.

Posted by GW | July 10, 2012 9:50 AM

I saw LCD live several times from about 2002 on. I really like them. But, stuff like this and their constant DJing at the douche-filled boutique hotels makes it really, really, really hard.

Scrape the hummus bowl clean

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 10:02 AM

"their constant DJing at the douche-filled boutique hotels makes it really, really, really hard."

Agreed. I'm sure there were people there that felt really uncomfortable being at those places for some reason.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 10:06 AM

They're just cashing in with the DJ sets. I never understood why people are willing to pay above $10 to hear a non-DJ spin tracks.

OH SHIT HE PLAYED WHITNEY ON VINYL.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2012 10:09 AM

freaking cool.

Posted by jordon | July 27, 2013 2:33 PM

Love the name! This has been a great success and I think the movie will stay in our minds for a long time.
