Yasiin Bey joined headliner Erykah Badu on the first day of the 2012 edition of the Afropunk Festival, going down at Commodore Barry Park near the Navy Yard in Brooklyn on Saturday (8/25). The pair were joined on stage when Bey performed Common's verses from their hit collaboration "Love of My Life" on that Saturday evening. Video from that is below.

But of course Badu wasn't the only artist to bless the stages on Saturday, with the festival loaded with appearances from names like Das Racist, Spankrock, Cerebral Ballzy, Oxymorrons and many, many more during the nine hours of stage time. Pictures from the first day at Afropunk 2012 are below along with video of that Badu/Bey collaboration.

Wow Spank Rock is still around? Why anyone cares about his 2006 schtick in 2012 is beyond me and BTW Das Racist is absolutely the WORST! GO AWAY PLEASE!

Das Racist is the worst band ever? You sure? I thought that title would go to Cerebral Ballzy.

If you like to get smoked up, party, and jump around this was fun. I didn't stay for EB, but the music kinda sucked- if you can even call it music. the Oxymorrons were pretty good and the Memoarials were ok, but the rest of what I saw was guys rapping over pre- recorded bass n drums w samples of other people's shit thrown into the mix. and It's not a proper hip/ hop/ punk? show unless the performers say at least 150 times " I want to see you throw your hands in the air....CMON.....CMON.....YEAH"

Just heard that the lead singer of Cerebral Ballzy is Dres from Black Sheep's son. Dres' new group evitaN is with Jarobi from A Tribe Called Quest and this is pretty amazing I gotta say http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emzlHIYnmio
