Black Sabbath at Lollapalooza 2012 (more by James Richards IV)

3/4 of the original Black Sabbath lineup (drummer BIll Ward not included) played their first US show on their 2012 reunion tour at Lollapalooza last night (8/3). Their killer setlist relied most heavily on their first three colossal LPs, Black Sabbath, Paranoid, and Master of Reality, treating the crowd to a ton of favorites like "NIB," "War Pigs," "Sweet Leaf," and many more. Bill Ward's replacement, Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper/Ted Nugent drummer Tommy Clufetos, took an arguably unwelcome drum solo before "Iron Man," but the band were otherwise in top form.
More pics from Black Sabbath's set at Lollapalooza are HERE. The setlist and videos from their set are below...

Wow, Lord of This World, would have loved to see that

Hi it's guy who commented 'Lord of This World,' don't know what I was thinking, went back and read the setlist again and it's not there. Wishful thinking I guess. I'll take Into the Void (Black Sabbath or Kyuss version) though.

Glad to see that Tony is ok. Sucks to not see Bill Ward.
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2012 3:22 PM

LOL @ fat goth chick doing sign language to Paranoid
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2012 3:29 PM
3:26 as awesome as Neon KNIGHTS is, why would Ozzy sing a song that Dio sang?
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2012 5:02 PM
title needs and asterisk for lack of BILL WARD
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2012 5:14 PM
Great set list. Saw them with Dio. Why the hell would Ozzy sing neon knights? Stupid.

Im not sure if Bill Ward would have made a difference, but that kick drum sounds almost too polished and "clicky" for me.. plus his groove is super tight and pushes the tempo .. I think I'd rather have it a little flawed and sloppier (aka Bill Ward)
Still sounds awesome, wish i could have been there.
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2012 6:29 PM
Ozzy sang Neon Knights for Dio? That's really kewl.
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2012 6:48 PM
wish i was there :-(

Great show!
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2012 6:51 PM
They gave the scab a drum solo? They probably are intentionally trying to humiliate Bill Ward.
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2012 6:56 PM
Killer set list!

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 8:51 AM
I'm not usually one for drum solos, but the one from this show was seriously amazing. @6:56 may be right, I hadn't thought of it that way.

NO WARD = NO PEACE
Posted by BARRY BROOKLYN | August 5, 2012 11:17 AM
I hope they play MSG.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 11:58 AM
They sound better without Bill Ward. He's too old to hit anything.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 11:59 AM
my four -year-old niece is a better drummer than ward at this point.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 12:15 PM
Pure classic!
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 12:30 PM
I love Ward, but he was greedy, and they sound awesome without him. All of the Sabbath incarnations have had legendary drummers.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 12:33 PM
Amazing set list!!! wish I was there!
Posted by Bobby | August 5, 2012 12:34 PM
I LOVE BLACK SABBATH
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 12:50 PM
I'm a 46 year old drummer that loves Bill Ward. He is a legend. But let's be honest, they sound hella large with the young guy on drums. Ward started to lose it long before this reunion. He does not maintain his chops like Neil Peart. It would have been nice to see Ward back in the fold, but hating what looks like a great time for Sabbath fans is pointless. That said, I would love to see them play in the states.

When Tony announced that he has not seen BIll Ward since he got cancer, but Geezer and Ozzy went to be with him and write new music, I lost a lot of respect for Bill Ward. If he isn't part of the gang anymore and just makes demands about vague contract issues, he doesn't deserve to declare what terms are reasonable. He was replaced before, it's no a deal breaker now.

^ Amen! Sabbath 4 ever!
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 12:59 PM
great set list yo
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 1:07 PM
Master of Reality is my jam
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 1:09 PM
Drums are a young man's game
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 1:16 PM
The ipods are broken up and Sabbath is back together. There is justice.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 1:16 PM
There is no reason why they shouldn't have played Never Say Die. Just saying, that's the shizzle fo shizzle. Wait, can you use the same izzle string to mean two different words, if used in the same sentence?
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 1:20 PM
who gives a shit about some old fat dude named Bill Ward. Dude can hardly drum anymore. As long as Iommi is shredding balls I'm there.
Posted by JT | August 5, 2012 3:41 PM
Tremendous set list!!!
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 3:52 PM
new young drummer dude is phenomenal. hope they come to brooklyn.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 4:10 PM
I wish i was Tommy Clufetos
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 6:06 PM
Was there, seriously spooky! So loud, my ears are thanking me for slipping in the plugs!
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 6:13 PM
I was there too! so good so fun!
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 7:14 PM
I don't quite get the "reunion" label, given that a) this isn't an actual reunion, and b) it wasn't that long ago that there WAS an actual reunion. My wee teenage self saw them in 2004 at Ozzfest.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 7:17 PM
Black Sabbath? Why? As if anyone could tell the difference if Bill Ward was there. Not exactly music experts that post on here.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 7:57 PM
Tommy Clufetos sounds better than Bill Ward. Wise choice Sharon!
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 8:10 PM
I never heard of Tommy Clufetos. He sounds killer.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 8:33 PM
They were great at Ozzfest 2004, but I couldn't help but think the drummer was cheesy and soft. They sound much better with the new drummer.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 8:36 PM
Tommy Clufetos is a scab.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 9:19 PM
wish i went to this show :-(
Posted by Sean | August 5, 2012 9:58 PM
Clufetos is awesome. Great drummer for Alice Cooper too.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 10:03 PM
I love Ozzy
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2012 10:08 PM
sooo many little bitches. you all complain wayyy tooo much. get over yourselves
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 9:39 AM
Show was fun. I don't care for the new drummer, and didn't like that they gave him a solo. "The Wizard" was a sloppy mess, and Ozzy missed 25% of the notes, getting weaker and shakier as the set wore on. Still, it was a blast to hear these tunes and see 3/4 of the real lineup.
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 1:56 PM
I would've traded Dirty Women for a full Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, but a killer show none the less. Geezer fucking SHREDDED.
