Census at 285 Kent (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)

The previously discussed Shiner show with Errortype:11, that was set to happen at Irving Plaza, has been moved to the Gramercy Theater (8/11). Tickets for the show are still available or you can roll the dice and try to win a pair, AND with a vinyl copy of the recently reissued Shiner LP The Egg! Details on how to enter are below.

The lineup for the Gramercy Theater show has since been expanded, and now includes Brooklyn's Census. Census wade in the waters spilled by shoegazey 4AD forefathers and the pre-shaven head Billy Corgan on recent demo tracks. The band, which shares a member but not an aesthetic with Cults, has spent a few nights supporting names like The Growlers and The Young in the recent past. Stream their demo below and download your copy at Bandcamp.

Contest details and that Census stream are below.

For a chance at winning a pair of tickets to see SHINER at GRAMERCY: either tweet something that includes both @BrooklynVegan AND "Shiner" in the tweet, or send an email to BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM with the subject line "Shiner". Include your first and last name in the email. We'll pick a winner at random and contact them with more details. If you enter by email, it will not be shared with anyone else. Good luck!

Gramercy is a highly underrated venue, in need of better shows.

I can't stand Irving because of where the doors are placed. The doors are near the front of the floor which means that people who arrive late have no choice but to push there way through the crowd, and generally end up crammed in near the stage. If you arrive early, you always have people pushing past you, unless you are right up front stage left.

Push there way.
There way.

Although the Gramercy is a better overall venue I always LULZ when shows get downgraded.

I've always loved Shiner, but they've NEVER done well selling tickets in NYC for some reason. Always was surprised how empty venues were for them... lots of people missed out on an amazing band. Could be because they are so unclassifiable... this is considered unhip to not fit neatly into a trendy genre.
